Harry
~~~~~~~
I didn’t have long to pace, as Hermione finished in a matter of minutes. She came out looking far less grim that I had previously expected.
“What? What is it?”
“Nothing. He didn’t have a chance to do anything, as far as I can tell. No sign of anything recent…”
”So…she’s…well…okay? Sort of?”
”Yes Harry…come back in.”
I approached Ginny slowly, hoping she was still semi-unconscious. I didn’t think I could bear to see any sort of emotion on her face right now. Still, I was thankful.
Ginny was awake, her head turned, staring at a wall. She was chewing on her bottom lip, an old nervous habit of hers.
“Hey Ginny…” it broke my heart to see her so forlorn. I ached to reach out and hold her. Anything. I just needed to take some of the pain away. I knew then for certain that I would do anything for her. Anything.
She nodded her head, I suppose it was her way of saying ‘hello’ back.
”So…what…um…happened?” I asked. Noting how awkward the words sounded coming out of my mouth.
“He…tried to…I um, don’t think he, uh…did…but I blacked out for a bit…” I noticed tears forming in her eyes, she began to chew on her lip again.
”I’m so sorry Ginny…I’ll do anything. I swear. Tell me what you need…tell me what you want me to do…I’ll do it.” I hadn’t meant to sound so intense. Hermione lingered in the background, I could tell she felt out of place, an intruder to something private.
“Harry, Gin…I’m just going to go…erm…get some tea or something…I’ll be down in the kitchens if you need me.” Hermione interrupted.
“Do you think I should let anyone else know what’s going on?” she asked.
Ginny shook her head adamantly ‘no’. Hermione nodded in return and turned to leave. Soon we were able to hear her footsteps retreating down the corridor.
As soon as Hermione was out of earshot I turned back to Ginny.
“Ginny…I…”
“Harry. Not now. I just…I just need to sleep.”
I nodded.
”Do you…want me…to stay?” I asked, hesitant.
“Yes…please…if you don’t mind.” Ginny replied. She sounded so weak and childish.
“Not at all. Remember Gin, anything.” I went to sit down in one of the overstuffed chairs, but Ginny quickly stopped me.
“No Harry…not there…stay with me…please?” I was a bit surprised by her request, all things considered, but happy nonetheless to comply.
I walked over to the bed, wondering what exactly I should do. Ginny however helped me out.
“Just hold me. Please.” She sounded ashamed at her own request.
Soon, despite circumstances, I was fast asleep. I had a strange dream - Ginny and I were in a tiny boat, stuck at sea. There was a storm, at it’s peak, and I was clutching onto her and the deck’s handrails, determined not to let us fall into the water…
