ON WITH THE STORY!!!
Snape looked away with a blush and cleared his throat. “So, shall we move to the sitting room and have a glass of champagne?”
Harry suddenly realized the intensity of the moment and released the man’s hand. “I believe that would be best, Severus.”
The men moved to the sitting room where the hearth was ablaze, shedding light to all corners of the room. They sat on the couch and Severus poured their drinks. “So, Harry, please tell me more about your love of classical mythology. I too love myths, but prefer Celtic legend to that of Greek or Roman.”
Feeling the tension disappear, Harry started talking about what he felt like reading the ancient stories. Severus listened intently as Harry recounted the tale of Atlas and why it was his never ending favorite. After three glasses of champagne, Harry was feeling tipsy and realized that his ‘date’ had been quietly listening while he droned on about the different myths. “Severus, I’ve been sitting here going on about the myths that I love. Tell me about your favorite Celtic myth.”
The older man ran his fingers through Harry’s long hair. “I’m content to let you talk all night. You are a lot more interesting than I ever thought a person could be. I want you to tell me about your Kung Fu. I didn’t think it was possible for a person to move like you were.”
Harry leaned into Severus’ hand. He enjoyed the sensation of fingers through his hair that were not his own. “Well, I started learning Kung Fu soon after defeating Voldemort, when I disappeared. I was living as a muggle, and quite honestly, sitting at home made me crazy. One day, I was walking in the park, and I saw a group of people doing a form of martial arts called Tai Chi. Basically, it’s slow moving and about form and focus as opposed to power. Lots of old muggles do it and it’s supposed to help with arthritis or something like that. I started doing it, and my concentration improved a lot, but it wasn’t really what I was looking for. I wanted something more physical, you know, since I couldn’t play quidditch. I researched several different forms of martial arts and settled on Kung Fu. I guess I like it best because there are so many different styles. That, and it’s very fast paced and I really don’t have a lot of time to think about anything other than my next move.”
Harry smiled and moved closer to Severus, laying his head on the other man’s shoulder. “It really kept me from going insane while I was out in the world. I’m glad I’m back where I belong, though.”
The younger man yawned after his last statement. “Severus, I do believe that I’m drunk.”
The older man put his arm around Harry’s shoulder and gave his a quick squeeze. “Mr. Potter, I do believe I’m also rather drunk. What do you say that we call it a night and make our way to our rooms?”
Harry laughed. “I think that is probably the best idea I’ve heard all day.”
The two men held on to each other as they staggered up stairs to their rooms. Severus’ room was first in the hall. As he opened the door, Harry took his hand. He looked into the green eyes of the man before him. “Thank you for a wonderful evening, Severus. You can’t imagine how I’ve enjoyed it. Next time, though, promise me you’ll do a little more talking.”
Severus smiled at Harry. “I promise I’ll tell you all about myself tomorrow evening. As for tomorrow all day, you have a book to read and two papers to write.”
“I know,” he answered, “I’ll be a lot more content tomorrow and I should be able to get a little work done.”
Harry leaned in and kissed the older man. “Thank you Severus. You’ve done tonight what no man or woman has been able to do. You brought me a bit of happiness.”
Snape stood with a dumb grin on his face as Harry walked to his room. Their eyes met one last time as they retired for the night. Harry was awake well into the already late night thinking about the events that had just transpired. He wants to do this right. I’ll be a bit more prepared for him tomorrow evening. He really wants to do this right, Harry thought with a contented sigh and a smile as he drifted off.
“Harry! Harry!! Wake up!!”
Harry sat straight up in his bed. The sheets were wrapped around him in an odd fashion; he was panting and covered in sweat. Snape was standing over him with his hands on the young man’s shoulders and a look of concern on his face. “Are you ok?”
Harry looked at him oddly and shook what little memory of the nightmare he was having out of his head. “I’m fine. It was another nightmare.”
Snape sat on the bed and hugged Harry. “What was it about?”
Harry absent-mindedly rubbed his scar. “I don’t remember. It’s gone now.”
Severus heaved a sigh of relief, “Good. You woke me from a pretty deep sleep screaming. It sent chills down my spine. I was afraid of what I might find when I came in here.”
Harry patted the man’s arm. “It’s ok. I’ll do that from time to time. Speaking of time, what time is it?”
“It’s almost dawn,” Snape answered as he smoothed down Harry’s raven locks.
Harry sighed. “Already? I suppose then that I need to be getting up. Breakfast on the east balcony?”
Snape shook his head and made his way from the room. In no time, the men were taking tea and eating another platter of fresh fruit under the sunrise. Neither spoke, and once the sun was fully raised, Harry excused himself to get ready for the day.
