AN: sorry this took so long- i hope you guys enjoy it. i took all your suggestions and comments into consideration, and kinda tweaked them a bit so they could correspond with my future plans for this story. thanks so much for all the response, it\'s fabulous. enjoy, and please tell me what you think when you\'re done!

CHAPTER ELEVEN: DETENTION

Lainey darted down the corridor towards her classroom, her bag over her shoulder, hair a mess flying behind her. She reached the classroom and opened the door, breathing hard. Professor McGonagall\'s hawk eyes grazed over her flushed and messy appearance.

\"Miss Heller, so kind of you to join us.\"

\"I\'m so sorry, Professor McGonagall, I just-\"

She felt David\'s eyes burning through her from where he sat at the front of the classroom. \"If you would really care to explain the reason behind your tardiness to the class, you may do so now.\" Silence as she blushed, unable to think of a proper lie. \"Well, it seems you have no excuse. Have a seat next to Mr. Lowell, and you will be serving detention with me after classes are through for the day.\"

Lainey sighed hopelessly. \"Yes, Professor.\" She reluctantly headed over towards the empty seat next to David Lowell.

\"You\'re never late.\" He whispered softly, keeping his eyes on the Professor, now continuing with the lesson.

\"You never sit alone.\" She retorted as she began to copy the steps on the blackboard for transfiguring a flower petal into a praying mantis.

\"Where were you?\"

\"Gosh, Lowell, you ought to try and rape me, maybe then I\'ll want to talk, yeah?\" She snapped. Lainey heard him groan and he rasped even lower,

\"I\'d never do that to you. I was drunk, and I\'m sorry, can we start over?\"

\"No.\"

\"Mr. Lowell, you will be serving detention with Miss Heller tonight. Please do not talk in my class, or it will double. And I suggest you wear comfortable clothing and appropriate shoes.\"

~*~

\"Thanks a fucking lot, Lainey. Detention with you is exactly how I planned on spending my evening instead of finishing up my term paper for Professor Quirrel which I haven\'t even started.\"

\"You were the one who talked to me, David. This isn\'t my fault.\" Lainey replied coolly as the two exes walked down the corridor towards Professor McGonagall\'s office.

\"We\'re missing dinner, too. This is just great.\"

With a roll of her eyes, she replied, \"You look like you could do to skip a meal, David. You\'re getting a little pudgy, Mr. 0% body fat.\"

\"Ha ha ha. At least I\'m not bloody anorexic like you.\"

That stung. During the course of their dating experience, David had made her start eating regularly again when she hadn\'t for almost a year. And after they\'d broken up, she\'d slipped back into her old habit.

\"That\'s real nice, David. I sure want to start over now.\" She replied, folding her arms over her soft red t-shirt.
David scoffed and ran a hand through his long hair.

\"I didn\'t mean it like that. Shit, you always do this.\"

\"Do what?\"

\"This!\"

\"What\'s this?\"

\"You always just take everything I say and turn it against me. You did it before we dated, and while we dated, and you\'re doing it now. You just have this way of making everyone else below you, Heller. Get your head out of the clouds.\"

By then they\'d reached the door. Lainey didn\'t look at him as she knocked softly. He studied her near flawless face, the tiny tip of her nose just a little bit turned up and her two front teeth nibbling on her lip.

The door opened, and a cross Professor McGonagall glared down at them from her glasses.

\"Miss Heller, Mr. Lowell. I\'m surprised you both showed up.\" The two students stood awkwardly waiting, until the older woman sighed. \"Well I didn\'t punish you to make you stand around. Though we could try it next
time. Come in.\"

Lainey and David simultaneously stepped toward the door and bumped shoulders.

\"Oh!\" She said softly.

\"Er.\"

\"Sorry.\"

\"Sorry.\"

\"Uh...\"

\"Ladies first.\"

\"Thanks.\" Lainey said finally and hurriedly entered the room. Behind her desk sat Minerva McGonagall, and afront it, in a chair, sat Oliver Wood in all his scottish glory, in exercise clothing and carrying a keychain. Lainey felt her heart stop when he looked at her, quirking an eyebrow and letting his eyes drift down her legs and up to her eyes.

\"Professor Wood will be watching you two tonight, as I have a very important Head of House meeting. I will ask you both to be respectful and quiet, as he has his own work to finish. Now, I must be off, but please treat him with the utmost respect. If I hear of any more out of line behaviour, I will be forced to take points from Gryffindor. Is that understood?\"

\"Yes, Professor.\" Lainey said softly, her brown eyes still focused on her lover.

\"Yes.\" David said, watching Lainey and Oliver looking at each other.

\"Good.\" The elderly witch said, rising and leaving the room briskly.

Wood rose from his seat and sat in her chair. \"Always wondered what it would be like to be behind this desk when I went here.\" He smiled sexily. Lainey smiled and kept her head bowed.

\"Did you get in a lot of trouble round here?\" David asked him.

In a distant smile, Oliver bit his lip, grinned and nodded. \"A little more than I would recommend for two bright young students such as yourself.\" David saw a blush rise in Lainey\'s cheeks as she and the professor locked eyes. Suddenly, it all made sense. But it couldn\'t be. Lainey had done some crazy things in her time, but she and the new Quidditch professor? That couldn\'t be.

\"What are we doing tonight, professor Wood?\" Lainey asked him softly, in a voice David recognized she used to get what she wanted. The professor gave her an appreciative once over that made David shudder internally. Those long, killer legs used to wrap around his body and he was certain Wood had touched them. The soft pink mouth that curved into a gentle half smile that used to drive him crazy was making this Quidditch player melt.
In Wood he saw himself, older, more secure and desirable, but falling for the same tricks from a dangerous little girl who was the moon and the sun encapsulated in two brown eyes.

\"Well,\" the professor started, snapping David out of his thoughts, \"I see you both wore the appropriate attire, in which case, we\'ll head on outside.\"

The professor led the silent pair out of the building and towards the Quidditch pitch.

\"Since your little mishap that landed you here was instigated by interaction, not action, Professor McGonagall decided it would be helpful to you both, and for your Quidditch conditioning, to make you run. So, you\'re going to be doing some different exercises, and then you\'ll head back to your dorms and rest up for an early practice tomorrow. But you can\'t talk the whole time. Sound good?\"

\"Truthfully, no, but I\'ll do it.\" Lainey admitted, hands on her hips. The loose red t-shirt was one they used for Quidditch practice, and had her Quidditch nickname on the back with a large G over one breast on the front.
She had on cutoff black sweatpants that rode low on her hips and showed off thin, perfect calves and she wore trainers on her feet. David hadn\'t dressed for the occasion as well as she had. He wore baggy jeans and a white t-shirt, and beat up sneakers.

\"I\'m up for it.\" David replied, doing his best not to glare at the professor he was sure was with Lainey.

By the time they\'d ran three miles together, done 10 suicides across the Quidditch pitch, finished sprints and done all the sit-ups and pushups possible, both David and Lainey were close to falling over.

\"Try doing this every morning at four AM on an easy day, and you have professional Quidditch,\" Wood smiled, nearly unaffected by the workout. \"You can talk again while we stretch out before you go back.\"

\"Ohh man.\" Lainey moaned, putting her hands on her knees and letting her long ponytail fall over her head as she breathed heavily.

\"You don\'t want to do that,\" the Scottish professor answered, heading over to her. He put one hand on her back and the other on her shoulder before pulling her torso back upright. \"Yeah, I do. I want to fall down,\" She smiled softly, a light sheen of sweat over her pretty face. She looked so good tired, Wood thought to himself.

\"If you put your head below your heart, or sit down or lie down rapidly after a workout like that, your heart rate will drop too quickly and you\'ll get sick,\" he replied with a smile. \"So you want to stretch standing first, then sitting. But don\'t put your head below where your heart is, you\'ll throw up in a second.\"

\"I didn\'t know that. Thanks.\" She smiled tiredly.

They stretched in silence for a while, and finally Lainey was sitting on the ground, bending over one leg, holding her foot with almost perfect ease and sighing softly from the stretch.

She\'s beautiful, both guys thought as they watched her place her forehead on her knee.

\"Shit, you\'re like silly putty.\" David remarked with a smile.

\"You\'ve been saying that since second year Quidditch tryouts.\" She smiled at him back. The air was a little calmer between them, though still on a little edge.

She certainly is flexible, Wood thought to himself as she switched legs. Bloody hell, all I want to do is take her somewhere quiet and fuck the shit out of her. This is torture for me.

They finished up their stretches at the beep of a stopwatch clipped to Oliver\'s belt that was magicked to tell when your heart rate had returned to normal. He stood, David stood, and Wood helped pull Lainey up. He pulled her up rather close to his body, and his brown eyes locked with hers. They stood like that just long enough for David to notice, and stepped away, trying to seem casual.

\"Well, good job, you two. I suggest you both head back to your dorms and rest up. You have a long day tomorrow and you\'ll no doubt want to stretch when you wake because you\'ll be sore like anything, yeah?\"

\"C\'mon, Lainey. Let\'s walk back,\" David interjected as the brunette looked at her forbidden professor.

\"Sure.\" She said with a smile. \"Thanks, Professor, good night,\" her soft voice echoed over the pitch as the two gryffindors walked away.

When David wasn\'t looking, and Oliver was, Lainey undid the strap of her watch and let it fall on the ground of the pitch. A soft hint of a smile played on Oliver\'s lips as he caught her drift.

About halfway up to the dormitory, Lainey turned to David and asked, \"How long were we out there?\"

\"I dunno. What time is it?\"

\"Hm.\" She said, looking down at her bare wrist. \"Oh, bollocks. My watch!\"

\"What about it?\" David asked.

\"I wore it down there, I\'m sure of it. Sometimes it slips off. I\'d better retrace my steps and find it. You go on.\"

\"Well, it\'s dark now. You won\'t be able to find it. Just wait until morning.\"

\"I can\'t! That was my mother\'s watch, it\'s a family heirloom. I can\'t risk it getting stolen or picked up by Filch. I\'ve got to go look for it.\"

\"Well, I\'ll come with you.\"

\"No! You need sleep. I think it may have fallen off during that last sprint. I\'ll go check around, you go on. Night!\" The girl called hurriedly, running back down the stairs. David, puzzled, and not buying a word of it, decided that it was her own business and he began to head back up the stairs.

Lainey dashed back out onto the pitch, where Professor Wood sat on a bench, tinkering with her watch. \"You forgot this,\" he said.

\"Thanks, it\'s a family heirloom. I was worried it\'d fallen off when I was walking back and I just ran down to get it.\"

\"Fallen off?\" The handsome man asked, still holding it out of her grasp.

\"Yes, now may I have it back?\" She asked innocently, making a grab for it and having it yanked above her head by the man.

\"Well, I only return things to honest girls.\"

\"I\'m being honest, it\'s mine, now give it back.\" Lainey demanded, making another attempt at the watch.

\"Ahh, I don\'t think so. You said you thought it had fallen off.\"

\"Which it clearly did so if you\'d be so kind-\"

\"I saw you take it off and drop it, Lainey,\" he whispered seductively against her ear. \"What I\'d like to know is, why would you ever do a silly thing like that to such a valuable piece of muggle machinery?\" Her breath caught in her chest, she loved that dark look in his eyes and his teasing was getting her worked up. All the adrenaline coursing through her body was making her crazy. This wasn\'t fair. But two could play this game.

\"Gosh, professor. I don\'t know. Since you\'re so wise and smart, why don\'t you tell me what you think?\"

\"I think you dropped that watch on purpose, Lainey, just to come back here and see me. Stop playing the innocent vixen and tell me, am I right or am I wrong that you came back just for me?\"

He was acting like this was the first time, like it was some silly crush and hadn\'t been a passionate affair carrying on and on.

\"Y-you...\" She whispered.

\"What?\"

\"You\'re right. I dropped it on purpose to come back here to get it from you. I just- I knew I wouldn\'t be able to sleep unless-\"

\"Unless what?\"

\"Unless you\'d had me again.\"

Wishing he\'d just pick her up and make love to her on the spot, she closed her eyes and let the heat of his close body radiate against her still sweaty skin.

\"Well. I don\'t know what to say,\" he replied, the same sexy, teasing deep voice whispering.

\"Don\'t say a thing, just touch me!\" She rasped, jumping up onto him and kissing his mouth furiously. Grabbing her head, Wood gained control of the kiss and deepened it, biting her lower lip hard with his teeth and making her moan. As soon as it had begun, it was over. Wood held her at arms length and smiled.

\"Tsk, tsk, Miss Heller. You\'re being a very bad girl tonight. Should I take points away from Gryffindor?\"

\"Take all the points you want, I don\'t regret a thing we\'ve done. Now stop playing around, let\'s get going!\" She groaned, fists holding his t-shirt and pulling him in close for another kiss. He was stronger, and removed her, picking her up and moving her away before stepping back.

\"Someone\'s on edge tonight.\"

\"Do you want to do this or not?\" She demanded, those deep eyes raining down on his with furious frustration.

\"You want to know the truth? Yeah, yeah I do. But I don\'t like your attitude.\"

\"Thanks, coach,\" she said sarcastically.

\"That\'s it right there. Don\'t act like it\'s my bloody privilege to have you. I could lose everything over you and I\'m risking it because I like you a lot. Now don\'t you dare talk to me this way again, because if anyone\'s fortunate, sweetheart, it\'s you.\"

Lainey stood, stunned. No man had ever spoken to her that way, not even her own father.

\"Now I\'m sorry for being harsh, and I don\'t know if you want to keep this going, but I want to give it a shot and have fun. And we can\'t do that if you\'re going to be a childish little brat.\"

Lainey looked up at him defiantly, but she knew he was right. Her darkened eyes softened, and his lips looked so kissable. \"You\'re right. But I don\'t want you thinking you have the control. You don\'t control me. I control me, and don\'t you ever forget it.\"

\"Baby, I wouldn\'t dream of taming a wild spirit like yours. It\'s what I admire most about you. You know who you are and what you want, and you do what you need to do to get it.\"

\"So what do we do now?\" Lainey asked after a moment.

\"Well, we can\'t very well shag on the Quidditch pitch, it\'s too early in the evening.\" Lainey laughed. \"What\'s to say you and me take a walk, hmm?\" He smiled. Lainey returned it and laced her hand in with his before leaning in to kiss him gently.

\"Sounds great.\"

~*~

David watched the pair walk away from the Quidditch pitch and the castle and towards the locker rooms, hands intertwined like ivy on an old stone wall and their blood coursing through their veins with excitement. David\'s pulse beat fast too; but not out of lust, out of rage.

AN: Short, but sweet. I wanted to leave it off there. More coming soon, I swear! Please, let me know what you think. I appreciate the hits n reviews.
