In the Eyes of the Enemy- Chapter Thirteen Trapped
Draco fell to his knees in desperation, Hermione had vanished into thin air and he had no idea what had happened to her. A circle began to form around him as Dumbledore made his way through the crowd. His voice could be heard asking, “What’s going on here”
As he reached Draco and realized Hermione wasn’t there his voice tightened as he asked “Draco where’s Hermione?”
As if a light had been switched on in his head Draco remembered the locator charm on his wrist and looked at it but it was spinning out of control. He looked up at the headmaster and wearily replied, “I don’t know. She was here one minute kissing me and then she was gone.”
The headmaster quickly replied, “When did she go Draco?”
He answered “right at midnight.”
Dumbledore grabbed Draco under the arm and pulled him to his feet as he said “To my office now young man. The rest of you please proceed back to your houses.” Draco followed the headmaster straight into his office where the old man turned on him and in a fierce voice said “There is no way to apperate or even floo without my permission in and out of these grounds, nor does it appear that you or anyone else saw anyone take her. So that only leaves a portkey, which must have been set to activate at midnight. I know for a fact that nothing Hermione was wearing, was purchased by her or her family. So I want you to tell me right now what you gave her and where she has gone or I swear mine will be the last face you ever see.”
Draco was shocked by Dumbledore’s threat and nervously said; “I don’t know honestly, the robes came from Paris they made them for each of us. I gave her a locator anklet I bought in Dervish and Banges for Christmas but it isn’t working right now. The only other thing she had on was the butterfly necklace I gave her for her birthday.”
Pointing his wand at Draco he asked “and where did the necklace come from?”
Draco paled as he answered “my father.”
Seeing the sadness in his eyes Dumbledore knew he hadn’t been responsible for Hermione’s disappearance but just be to sure he said “If I find out you had anything to do with this, you’ll be begging me to send you to Azkaban.”
Draco retorted, “I love Hermione and if anything happens to her, when get my hands of my father they can send whatever’s left to Azkaban.”
Dumbledore placed his hand on Draco’s shoulder and in a much calmer voice said, “We need to get her back safely and then we can deal with your father.”
The headmaster dismissed Draco, and he ran to the owlery determined to write his father immediately. He decided he’d have more success with getting his father to tell him where he was keeping Hermione if he pretended everything was going according to plan. Draco wrote:
Father,
The mudblood is gone. I’m presuming you have her as you stated in your letter I had until the New Year to full fill my plan when you sent the necklace. It was an excellent way of getting her out of Hogwarts. She is convinced I love her and the foolish girl is completely in love with me. At the ball everyone saw nothing but a couple in love and even Dumbledore doesn’t suspect me of being involved. I will begin preparing Potter to be delivered to our Lord. Let me know when and where to bring him.
Draco
Draco quickly found his eagle owl and instructed him to take the letter to his father as quickly as possible. With that done Draco went to Gryffindor tower to find Harry.

Hermione woke to find her arms chained above her head to a wall and still feeling a bit groggy. The moment she landed in this place she had been stunned from behind. Hermione was unsure what had happened next but judging by the stiffness in her arms she guessed she had been unconscious for several hours. Her cell was cold and damp. It was barren of anything other than 4 moss covered stonewalls, large black metal door, and the chains which now held her in place.
Her assessments of her surroundings were cut short as the metal door screeched open and a large snake slithered in followed by the shrouded yet undeniable figure of Voldemort Lucius and Pettigrew entered the door shortly behind the Dark Lord and took a position on each side of Voldemort, creating a semi-circle around Hermione. Her skin crawled and she let out a small scream as Nagini began to wrap herself around Hermione’s feet.
Pettigrew stepped forward and forced Hermione’s mouth open as he poured an unknown substance down her throat. As he stepped back to his place beside Voldemort, The Dark Lords catlike red eyes stared at Hermione.
After a moment he spoke, with a snake like hiss he asked, “Was it Draco that saved you from my men in London?”
Hermione was horrified she had never thought the attack had been anything other than bad luck on her part. As her voice began to leave her body uncontrollably, she realized the liquid Pettigrew gave her was Veritaserum, “It was the baby that saved me from their attack.”
Voldemort smiled an eerie smile as he asked, “Who is the father of this child you speak of.”
Hermione felt no remorse as her voice announced “Draco Malfoy.”
Lucius looked horrified but the Voldemort grinned as he said, “I guess you son toughly enjoyed his work. From the look of her who could blame him.” Voldemort then turned back to Hermione and asked, “Does Harry Potter trust Draco Malfoy?”
Hermione was unable to control her voice as it replied, “No Harry doesn’t trust Draco?”
Voldemort nodded and continued “Would Potter trade his life for yours.”
Again her voice betrayed her, “more than likely, Harry and I are best friends he would do anything to save his friends from danger, even if it meant sacrificing himself.”
Voldemort nodded and asked “Will Dumbledore allow Potter to go alone with Draco?”
Against her will she responded “No, he will feel to personally involved to allow Harry and Drac lea leave alone.”
Voldemorts eyes whirled with interest as he asked “why would Dumbledore feel personally interested in you, or is it merely out of concern for Potter.”
Hermione tried to bite her lip to stop the words but it was no use as she said, “he’s my grandfather.”
The three men looked at her in shock but as Voldemort recovered he said, “Dumbledore has no children how is it that you come to be his granddaughter?”
Hermione’s body shook as she bite down on her tongue but as a small trickle of blood fell from the corner of her mouth she spoke “my father is his only son.”
Voldemort quickly replied “no son of Dumbledore’s could possibly be a squib how is it he is a muggle and not a wizard?”
Tears rolled down her cheeks as she tried to fight the words “He pretends to be a muggle with my mother to hide from you and Lucius who tried to kill them.”
It was Lucius now who spoke “I have never failed in killing anyone I set my target on. Who were your parents that they should evade me?”
Hermione’s had no more strength to fight as the words “Albert and Andrea Plummer” fell from her lips.
Lucius gave Hermione a look of pure anger but before he could speak Voldemort said “Lucius this changes everything we must discuss what we will do next.”
Lucius was furious that this girl had humiliated him in from of his master, by exposing an order that he had apparently failed to carry ouoperoperly. He decided to make her feel the same humiliation. He reached into his robes and with drew his son’s letter and spat “Do you think my son loves you?”
Hermione croaked “yes.” Lucius smiled as he read the letter to Hermione.
Hermione couldn’t believe what she was hearing and she shouted, “It’s a lie, you’re a liar.”
Lucius simply held up the letter for Hermione to see and said, “It’s written in his own hand my dear. So if you have any delusions that the father of your bastard child will be coming to save you think again.” With that the three men and hideous snake left Hermione alone in the dark room, her tears of grief her only company.

Draco fought with the portrait of the Fat lady until a sleepy Neville finally stepped out and asked “Draco what do you want?”
Draco pushed past Neville and entered the Gryffindor common room yelling, “POTTER.”
In an instant Harry and Ron came running down the stairs as the rest of Gryffindor House waited anxiously at the top of the stairs. An angry Ron asked, “What is the meaning of this Malfoy you’re a Slytherin and have no right to be in our dormitories.”
Draco sneered as he replied “I asked for Potter not you Weasley, and I’m Head Boy and have the right to go anywhere I please.”
Harry stepped between the two and said, “Malfoy, what is this all about?”
Draco took not of all the Gryffindor’s filling the room and said “I need you to come to my quarters to discuss some things about Hermione.” Harry understood and followed Draco. Once outside the portrait entrance Draco noticed they weren’t alone, that Ginny and Ron were tagging alone. He turned abruptly and said, “I said Potter, not Potter’s pet weasels.”
Before Ron or Ginny had a chance to speak Harry said, “Either they come with us or I go back inside Malfoy. Dumbledore may be convinced of your innocence in the matter, but I don’t have that kind of faith in you.” Draco didn’t reply, instead he made his way down the two floors to his and Hermione’s quarters.
As he entered the room he felt a wave of sadness hit him. The picture in front of Hermione’s door held both their likenesses, with Hermione asleep in his protective arms. He would give anything for this to be a horrible dream that he would simply wake from, but he knew as much as he hated it Hermione being kidnapped was a reality. He now had to admit to her three best friends his part in this mess.
Draco motioned for them all to be seated and said, “I think I know who has Hermione and as much as I hate to ask, I’m going to need your help to get her back.” He held his hand up to stop any questions and continued “after I tell you the story you may hate me, but no more than I hate myself at this moment. In order to save Hermione you’re going to have to hear me out.” He took a deep breath and began. “Over the summer my father took me to one of his Death Eater meetings and presented me to the Dark Lord as one of his servants. The Dark Lord however said that in order for me to join him I would need to prove myself by delivering Potter to him.”
Ron jumped up and shouted, “You bastard you were going to hand over Harry just to be a lousy Death Eater.”
Draco’s eyes fell to the floor and Harry put his hand on his friend shoulder as he motioned for him to sit he said “there’s obviously more to the story Ron let him finish.”
Draco nodded and continued, “my father had me spend the summer figuring out ways to get you to give yelf elf over to the Dark Lord and the only weak link I saw in your trio was Hermione. There is too much bad blood between Weasley and me. Hermione she’s a women, and women can to be seduced. I figured by getting her to love me, she bring me into your group and when the time came I would be able to convince you to turn yourself over to the Dark Lord in order to free her. What I hadn’t planned for is that I would actually fall in love with her for real. It was my father who gave me the necklace to give to her, and in a note he wrote me he said I had until the New Year to complete my plan. I had honestly forgot all about the stupid plan until she disappeared. I don’t expect you to trust me but you must believe me, my father and probably Voldemort have her, and the only way to get her back is if I take Harry to them when they ask me too.”
Ron was angry again as she shouted “so you still want us to just hand Harry over, when you yourself have just admitted that all this is part of your master plan.”
Draco shouted back “when I came up with the stupid plan I only thought of Hermione as a know it all mudblood and you two were nothing more than a couple of pains in my ass. Now that I know her though, she has become my whole world, and yes I will hand the Dark Lord any damn thing he wants to have her back. She is the only thing that matters to me, and I’m asking now for your help so that maybe we can all get out of this alive.”
The three Gryffindors before him were silent. After several minuets Ginny finally asked, “What did you have in mind?”
Draco smiled and began “I was thinking if we made it look like Potter was giving himself up for Hermione then at the last moment we could attack Voldemort and catch him off guard. The only problem might be other death eaters and my father.”
Ginny asked, “what if Ron and I hid under an invisibility cloak we could surprise them that way and then there would be four of us?”
Out of thin air Dumbledore appeared and said “correction five of us.”
He placed a hand on Draco’s shoulder and said, “I’m glad you were able to admit your part in all this, even if it wasn’t truly your intention fermiermione to be taken.”
Dumbledore smiled at Harry, Ron and Ginny as he continued, “Although I dare say there will more likely be nine of us once Griselda and Hermione’s parents arrive. I didn’t dare use my fireplace incase they were being followed so they were all going to floo to the Hogs Head, and should be arriving any time now.”
Draco looked confused as he asked, “What good are a couple of muggles going to be against the likes of Voldemort.”
To this the headmaster chuckled “Hermione’s parents are no more muggle than you or I dear boy. You think one of the smartest witches to ever pass through these halls could be the product of two muggles.” Draco was more confused now than he had been before.
Ginny noticed the look on his face and said, “Hermione’s mother is my sister and her father is Dumbledore’s son.”
Draco’s eyes narrowed as he asked “But I though my father killed your sister? Hermione said that’s why she didn’t want to be with me, she was afraid I was like my father.”
Ginny nodded as she explained “your father did kill them in a sense they narrowly escaped his killing curse and have spent the last nineteen years in hiding as muggles.”
Just then there was a knock on the common room door. Draco ran down the hall to see who it was, and was surprised to see Filch standing before Griselda and Hermione’s parents. Spotting Dumbledore inside Filch quickly said “Headmaster sir, you said to bring them here as soon as they arrived.” Dumbledore nodded and motioned for the three to enter the room.
Filch then left muttering loudly to Mrs. Norris “we have better things to do then escorting guests around in the middle of the night.”
Before any introductions could be made two owls came flying though the open door and dropped letters into Draco, and Dumbledore’s outstretched hands. Each glanced at the other before reading the contents of their respective letters. Judging by the looks an their faces it wasn’t good and Hermione’s mother asked first, “what is it, what do they say?”
Dumbledore calmly said “They know the truth, and they want me in exchange for Hermione. I’m to meet Voldemort at the Riddle House in Little Hangleton tomorrow at midnight.”
Dumbledore turned to Draco who said “I’m to take Harry tomorrow night to Malfoy Manor so he can take Hermione’s place in the dungeon.”
Dumbledore smiled as he began “well it seems your father still trusts you are on their side and has given us some very useful information. Draco is your locator charm still malfunctioning?” Draco glanced down at his bracelet and saw the little compass spinning out of control and nodded. Dumbledore’s eyes twinkled and he said, “Malfoy Manor is unplottable and would explain why Draco’s charm isn’t working once inside we’ll be able to use it to find her. For now we will all rest. Tomorrow night we will be heading to Malfoy Manor to get my granddaughter back and then Tom and I some unfinished business to attend to.”
