Chapter 11 – Side Effects and Side Affects

Start of day 4

Ginny had brought his breakfast in early the next morning, but rushed out with a harassed look muttering that some first years had snuck in the Potions classroom and treated it as a playground. The result was an infirmary full of misshapen children and a load of house points lost. He smiled at her while wiping the sleep out of his eyes. She was blushing and looking at him from under her eyelashes.

Remus was thinking that everything was looking much more promising with Ginny when Severus walked in with his lunch trey. Looking back, Remus realized he shouldn’t have gotten to use to the idea that his life was working out. Because the words that came out of Severus’ mouth shot his comfortable little bubble all to hell.


“I ran into Ginny last night after she brought you dinner,\" Severus said with no inflection in his voice. Severus was never one for small talk, so R kne knew the dour faced man had something he wanted to talk about.

“Yes, is something wrong?\" Remus asked, not knowing where this was going.

\"Drop the innocent act Lupin. The girl had her robe torn and the most… distracted look on her face. She wouldn\'t tell me what happened. But you will. Now.\"

\"Nothing happened Severus,\" Remus said.

\"Let\'s try this again. My wife saw the same scene I did and declared Ginny had just been shagged by a rabid animal. Knowing where she was coming back from, I marched her into a privatom aom and tried to get some answers out of her. She had bite marks on her neck, not hickies, but bite marks and her nails where torn down the cuticle. The marks across your upper arm look fresh, and Ginny\'s shoes are on the floor next to your sofa. Let me ask again before I call Dumbledore in for a possible rape investigation. What happened?\"

Remus cringed inwardly. He hadn\'t realized he had been that rough, but he didn\'t feel like discussing this with Severus. Blanching as he listened to Severus\' description, he acquiesced. \"I\'m afraid I wasn\'t completely honest with you when you asked if there were side effects to the new wolfsbane that you brewed, and they are the cause of what happened last night.”

\"But I swear, I didn\'t mean it...I tried to control myself.\" he pleaded desperately

\"You raped Ginny Weasley!”

\"NO!\" Remus denied adamantly.

\"Then explain the bruises on her wrists?” Severus\' lips were pressed into a thin line.

\"We didn\'t have sex. And at no point did Ginny ever say no or try to stop in any other way. It was more like a serious snogging session.\" Remus replied. \"While I don\'t want to sound chauvinistic, Ginny was more towards the encouraging side than anything else. That\'s why she didn\'t want to tell you.\"

Severus frowned, and wrote for a few minutes in the medical chart. After a few moments, Severus’ mouth quirked in a faint smirk and he glanced at Remus and tried to hide the smile. What the hell was in that thing anyway?!

\"What are the side affects?”

\"Side effects of what?\" Remus replied, desperately hoping that Severus wasn\'t talking about the potion, but it was unlikely.

\"Lupin, the side affects of the potion.”

\"Arous" Re" Remus replied, sparing himself the humiliation of a long, badly worded attempt at explanation.

Severus tapped his long fingers while thinking and writing notes in the chart.

\"Yes... I can see how oyster extract and rose petals would combine to produce that. I will brew a replacement, but it won\'t be ready until next month.”

Remus dropped his head in his hands. \"Severus, I\'m sorry I didn\'t tell you. I though I could control it, and I know how time-consuming it is for you to brew the potion.\"

\"Regardless, you will keep your paws to yourself. I will leave detailed instructions for whoever brings you the potion for the remainder of the month, understand?”

\"Very well. Are you going to tell Ginny?\" he asked.

Severus rubbed his hand over his face. \"Of course I am going to tell Ginny. You almost jumped her, and you did hurt her. She deserves to know why she was subjected to such a display from one of her co-workers, don\'t you agree?”

\"I just wanted to know so I can prepare for our inevitable confrontation,\" Remus said quietly. \"Things between us aren\'t exactly... normal at this point.\"

\"Without a doubt. Keeping your teeth off her neck next time might improve matters,”
Severus rose to leave and added over his shoulder, \"I would keep my wand handy if I were you. Miss. Weasley has a hellacious temper.”

\"Yes, this I know,\" replied Remus with a sad smile. \"Goodnight.\"


Ginny threw open the door to his quarters, not even bothering to knock, and put his dinner trey down roughly. \"So, you only wanted me last night because of that stupid potion!\" she spat angrily. Remus shook his head. Oh gods, it was starting.

\"No, that\'s not true Ginny!”

\"Oh, please explain i me me then,\" she replied, acid dripping from her words.

\"I... attacked you last night because of the potion. I wanted you before that,\" Remus stood up and walked over to her. He traced a finger on her wrist. \"I wouldn\'t have left bruises like this if it hadn\'t been because of the full moon coming, but I wanted you aside from the lunar activity.\"

Ginny gaped for a minute. She had not been expecting such a confession. \"Why?\" she asked, her temper having been deflated. \"Why didn\'t you tell me before?\"

\"You\'re married,\" he said. \"I wouldn\'t intrude on marriage vows, no matter how poorly your husband takes them.”

\"I see,\" Ginny said quietly and Remus pulled her into his arms, hugging tightly.

\"And what if I were divorced?\"

\"I don\'t want to influence the destruction of your marriage by answering Ginny,\" Remus hedged.

\"My marriage has already been destroyed,\" Ginny replied. \"What you say cannot changet.\"t.\"

Remus swallowed and cupped Ginny face, \"This isn\'t the time Ginny. I haven\'t even taken the potion, and I can feel...\" he trailed off while his thumb caressed her lower lip.

\"Feel what?\" she prodded, shifting herself so she was partway on his lap.

Remus looked into her eyes as he cleared his throat. \"I\'m rather positive you know.\"

\"I may have an idea, but I would rather you just told me,\" she said impishly, moving around a bit more.

Remus closed his eyes.

\"Ginny, you\'re playing with fire. I hurt you last night, and I don\'t want to hurt you again... You know what you’re doing to me,\" he said, thrusting his hips against the smoothness of her thigh.

When Remus thrust his hips against her, she could clearly feel the bulge of his manhood straining against his pants.

She sighed deeply and closed her eyes. Her belly was warm, her breasts swollen, and her thighs were starting to get moist.

It was like this every time she saw him lately, he would give her a cock-eyed smile, and her body would melt. After the other night, when she\'s been pressing her sex against his and grinding, she\'d gone into her bedroom, undressed and given herself the most explosive orgasm she\'d ever had.

And to read what Severus had written, about it all being a byproduct of the potion... Her self esteem, which was not very stable right now to begin with, had been crushed. All night, she\'d dreamed of touching him, caressing him, and seeing his face when he came in her hand. Or in her mouth. Or, and at this thought, her breath would hitch, when he came inside her. But he\'d just said it wasn\'t only the potion...

\"Remus?\" Ginny asked in a small voice.

\"Yes?\" He replied, his voice hoarse with desire.

\"I want to know, if it weren\'t full moon, and if you weren\'t taking the potion, would you still be doing this. I don\'t mean wanting to... but doing. Would you be pulling me into your lap and kissing me, about to make love to me?\" Ginny asked. She wouldn\'t be the cause of pain in his life when he beat himself up in the morning over his weakness for her.

Remus was silent for a moment, his feelings running amuck in his head. He had no idea how to answer her. \"Ginny I... I really...I don\'t know. Gods I want to... I\'m not sure....your marriage...,\" Remus stumbled.

Ginny blinked and nodded. \"I thought so. It is the potion, even if you don\'t think so...\" she said, gathering her robe and walking to the door. \"Take your potion Remus, I have to go,\" she said, walking out the door and closing it before he could see the tears forming.

Quick Authors Note – My Business is doing great and I’m working my bum off! My kids also started preschool last week and it’s been a headache getting them into the groove. Add in the fact that I got sick over the weekend, and you add up to a LONG delay in posting. I’m sorry.
