Chapter 12
Blinding Discoveries
Harry was surprised and almost afraid when he noticed that Draco wasn’t at breakfast. He let his thoughts calm him, telling himself that maybe Draco overslept. But when Draco wasn’t in Potions Harry started to panic. He waited until the rest of the class left, telling Ron and Hermione to go on without him, and then walked up to Severus’ desk.
“Excuse me Sir, but I noticed that Draco isn’t here…where is he?”
Severus rolled his eyes when he saw the fear in Harry’s eyes and smiled at him, “He went home Mr. Potter, he will be back before dinner.”
Harry let his shoulder’s slump in relief and then chewed on his lip some, “Does this have anything to do with what happened at the Manor yesterday?”
Severus nodded shortly, “But like I said before, it’s not my place to tell you, if Draco wants you to know, he will tell you tonight, now get out of my class before I take points Mr. Potter.”
Harry rolled his eyes and walked out of the room, still slightly worrying about Draco. What could’ve happened at the manor that would’ve required Draco’s presence from the school? Harry pushed all the thoughts out of his mind, it wasn’t the time for him to think about Draco, it was time for him to study and do good in school….even though the school reminded him of Draco.
Harry thought about slamming his head into the nearest wall, it would do him good, at least then he wouldn’t be thinking about Draco.

The minute Harry walked into the Great Hall for dinner his eyes swept over to the Slytherin table. His heart sung when he saw Draco sitting in his usual seat. But when he took in the slightly depressed look of the other boy he instantly got worried. What had happened to make Draco look so upset? Harry slowly sat down in his usual seat, hoping that Draco would still show up for the usual night visit.

Harry sat down by the lake, shivering as the cold wind hit him in the face. What the hell was that spell that Draco had used? Harry didn’t know, but he had to do something! He started to think about being warmer, he started to chant the word “warm” over and over in his head, and finally about the 20th time he said it a soothing warmth spread over his body and sighed in contentment. Harry sat there for what seemed like hours until Draco finally showed up and sat down beside him.
“I thought about not coming tonight.” Draco said softly and Harry nodded.
”I didn’t think you were going to, I noticed that you were gone this morning…and during Potions…I was…concerned.”
Harry blushed when he heard Draco scoff and the silence consumed them both. They sat there for 30 minutes until Draco finally took a deep breathe and started to talk, “My parents are getting a divorce, my mother owled my dad from America, saying that she found the man of her dreams.” Harry wasn’t surprised when Draco all but spat the last words out and he felt sorry for him.
“I’m sorry Draco….that must be horrible…is your dad alright?”
Draco looked at Harry and his eyebrows drew together. “You shouldn’t be sorry Harry, at least I had parents….and yes, he’s alright, like I told you before, there was no love in their relationship, my father is just concerned about how I will take it.”
“Not having parents has to be easier then having them and then loosing one of them Draco, and….will you be alright?” Harry heard the soft sigh that Draco let go and slightly regretted asking the question.
“I will be alright Harry, it’s just a little shocking. I never liked my mother, she never wanted anything to do with me, it was my father who taught me everything, comforted me when I was upset…don’t get me wrong…my father is very strict and I got disciplined well….but at least he was *there* for me.” Draco blushed when he felt his voice crack a little and before he could even put up his tough front again Harry was there, taking him in his arms and slightly rocking him.
Draco smirked softly and then pushed Harry away gently, “I’m not a child Potter….but thank you.” Harry blushed and sat back down next to Draco. They sat there in silence for a while before Draco stood up and smiled at Harry, “I’m going to go in now Harry…good night.”
“Good night Draco.” Harry said softly and he was surprised when Draco leaned back down and gave him a soft kiss on the life. Before he could say anything about it Draco was gone, walking back up to the castle.
Harry looked back over the water and smiled softly, he knew that Draco would be alright, Draco was too strong to let something like this get in his way. Harry laid on his back and smiled when he saw the sky full of stars. “How do you tell if you are in love? How did you know that mum was the right one? I mean…I think I may really love Draco…but how could I possible think that? I haven’t really talked to him a lot, even though we have been spending a lot of time together…I just wish I could know what was going to come out of this.” Harry sighed when the stars didn’t give a response; it wasn’t like they ever did.
Harry sat up and grabbed his cloak, he draped it over himself before standing up and walking back to the castle, he wanted to be on time for breakfast tomorrow.
