Chapter 12

Potions and Killing Curses

Chapter 12

The day of the final battle, dawned cold and cloudy. Hermione and Severus administered the potion and now, everyone stood around waiting for the signal from Draco and the other Slytherins. Harry walked over to the corner where Hermione and Severus stood.

“Listen, I want you two to promise me something out there,” Harry said.

“What’s that Harry?” Hermione questioned.

“Promise me that you two will survive. I know that even with this potion I may not survive because of that damned prophecy. I can’t go into battle if I think for one second that you won’t survive,” Harry explained.

“You don’t have to worry Potter. I won’t let anything happen to Hermione,” Severus said.

“And I would never let anything happen to Severus,” Hermione added.

Harry nodded. He hugged Hermione, then turned and extended his hand to Severus, “Professor, I want us to start over. Hermione wouldn’t be with you if you weren’t a good man. I’m willing to start over as friends. If you are,”

“I can live with that,” Severus smirked.

The three laughed. Suddenly, a flash of red came from the forest. It was time.

“You’ve done well Draco,” Voldemort smiled as Draco knelt before him.

“Thank you my Lord,” Draco said, playing the part perfectly.

“My followers, it is time. Remember, no one is to be left alive,” Voldemort ordered.

The Death Eaters all nodded. Slowly, the group began walking toward the gates. Draco and the other Slytherins right in front. Draco shared a knowing look with Blaise and Pansy who were on his left. It was time. The other Slytherins clutched their wands tightly, all getting ready for what was to come.

Voldemort led the way, but stopped when he neared the castle. There on the lawn were the Order, Aurors, the D.A. and every ally the Light could find. Standing right in front were Harry, Ron, Hermione, Severus, Sirius, and Albus. Voldemort began laughing.

“So, you think you can beat us? Ha! You don’t stand a chance!” Voldemort yelled.

“It’s over Tom. Surrender or it will be the end of you and your followers,” Albus said while Draco and the Slytherins slowly and carefully began moving out of the ranks, unnoticed.

“It’s you who will die! You and Potter!” Voldemort cried.

“Avada Kedavra!”

Voldemort turned as Lucius, Bella, Crabbe Sr. and Goyle Sr. fell to the ground. The fighting began. Hermione, Severus, Harry, and Sirius fought as one. Severus, Hermione, and Sirius blocked and cast spells, giving Harry a clear path.

Ron was joined by Blaise and Draco who were helping him lead the D.A. Left and right Death Eaters were crying out as they fell to the ground. The potion Hermione created, did it’s job perfectly. Apparently, Sirius also found a way to cause the potion to protect from the other Unforgivables as well. Every time a Death Eater cast an Unforgivable, the curse just bounced of the person and reflected back on the Death Eater who cast the spell.

Finally, Harry made it to Voldemort. Hermione, Severus, and Sirius stood behind Harry, watching his back while three Death Eaters did the same for Voldemort.

“It’s time Potter. Time for you to meet the same end as your worthless parents,” Voldemort hissed.

“Actually you bastard, it’s your time to meet your end. Time you pay for all the evil that you’ve done,” Harry replied calmly.

“AVADA KEDAVRA!”

Like in fourth year, their wand tips locked. Only this time, Harry was twice a strong. While Voldemort struggled to keep the curse from him, Harry simply held his wand in one hand, never taking his eyes off Voldemort. Harry was drawing on every emotion he could feel. Fear, love, hate, anger, rage, sadness, and happiness.

Voldemort was no longer able to keep the curse from him. With a scream of agony, the curse hit him square in the chest. A red light began to surround Voldemort, spinning faster and faster around him. His screams echoing through the air. Everyone turned and watched as the red light became nothing more than a blur around him.

“NOOOOO! I CAN’T BE DEFEATED! AAAAHHHH!”

Slowly, Voldemort’s body began to melt. The spirits of all of his victims appeared and were floating over him. Harry saw the spirits of his mother and father. They smiled down at him as Voldemort melted down to nothing more than a burn mark in the ground. Slowly, the light and the spirits faded away. With a heavy sigh, Harry sank to the ground. In the confusion, the remaining Death Eaters were rounded up and taken away by the Aurors.

“He’ll be fine Albus. All he needs is a full nights sleep,” Poppy smiled as Albus, Hermione, Severus, and Sirius walked up to Harry’s bed.

“Good. How are you feeling Harry?” Albus questioned.

“Tired, but fine. Actually, I feel relived. This nightmare is finally over,” Harry smiled.

“You did well Harry. I’m proud of you,” Hermione said as she leaned over and kissed his forehead.

“Hermione is correct Potter. You far surpassed everyone’s expectations,” Severus nodded.

“Thanks to you and that potion you brewed. At least we all lived to see another day,” Harry smiled.

Harry remained in the hospital wing for a few days, just to be safe. Luckily, no one was killed on the Light’s side. A few injuries, but nothing life threatening. A week after the final battle, life resumed as usual at Hogwarts. Hermione and Severus stayed long enough to enjoy the massive celebration, but soon returned to Snape Manor. Upon returning, Severus contacted his solicitor and immediately had Hermione’s potion patented and set things rolling for her to begin selling it and so forth.

“Hermione, what are you thinking about?” Severus asked as he walked up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.

“Those we lost. I’m just remembering them. Molly, Remus, and Bill. I hope now that they’ve been avenged, their family and friends can find peace,” Hermione sighed as she leaned into his arms.

“They will,” he whispered.

The couple were standing on their balcony enjoying the winter air. It had been nearly a month since the final battle. Harry, Ron, Draco, and the other Slytherins were finishing their final year. Harry and Ron were talking about taking a year off and doing some traveling before deciding what to do for a career. Draco was going to be an Auror.

Hermione had been accepted to be an Apprentice to Severus’ old mentor, Liam Carter. She was set to begin her training in September. Luckily, Liam didn’t live far and she would be able to return to Snape Manor at the end of the day. Severus had already begun the ball rolling on opening his own apothecary.

“My dear, there’s something I want to ask you,” he said.

“What is it?” she inquired.

“Will you marry me?” he asked.

“Did…did you just ask what I think you asked?” she questioned.

Severus nodded. Hermione spun in his arms, threw her arms around his neck, and kissed him. When they came apart, she voiced her answer. “Yes I’ll marry you!” she cried.

“You’ve just made me the happiest man alive,” he smiled as he held her close.

He gathered her into his arms and made a beeline straight for the bed, Hermione’s laugh echoing through the room and the winter night.
