Chapter 12

Love of a Phoenix

Chapter 12

“You two ready?” Severus asked as he, Poppy, and Aurora hid in the bushes outside of Voldemort’s stronghold.

The two witches nodded. Using her powers, Aurora cloaked them as they moved to the mansion. Severus could feel Hermione was still fighting against the Phoenix who was still primarily in control. ‘Don’t worry Hermione. We’re coming to save you and bring you home,’ Severus thought.

“Tonight, we celebrate the turning of the tide in this war. On Halloween, we will attack Hogwarts, destroy Potter and Dumbledore, and take what is rightfully ours…the Wizarding world! Our time is now!” Voldemort cried as he raised his goblet.

The Death Eaters cheered and raised their own goblets. The Phoenix merely smiled as she sat at Voldemort’s right hand. Inside the Phoenix, Hermione felt Severus was near. Luckily, The Phoenix wasn’t as in tune to their bond with Severus as Hermione was.

‘I won’t stop fighting. Severus, if you can hear me or feel me, know I love you and I’ll keep fighting until the end,’ Hermione thought.

“Right now, let us toast to our beautiful Phoenix. For it she that will win us our freedom. To The Phoenix!” Voldemort toasted.

“To The Phoenix!” The Death Eaters echoed.

As they made their way to the throne room, Severus heard Hermione’s thoughts. “She’s still fighting. I heard her in my mind,” he said.

“That’s a good sign. The bond between you is strong. Perhaps stronger than most. That will make the ritual easier to perform and easier to get rid of the Darkness,” Aurora smiled.

They stealthily moved down the hall. Once they reached the throne room, they nodded to one another. It was time. Drawing on all her powers, Aurora would freeze the Death Eaters and Voldemort. She only hoped it would be enough.

“You ready?” Severus asked.

“Yes. Let’s go save Hermione and end this war,” Poppy said, while Aurora nodded.

The three burst into the throne room.

“Kill them!” Voldemort yelled the second he saw Severus, Poppy, and Aurora.

The Death Eaters tried to obey their master, but found they couldn’t move. They watched in shock as the three walked right up to the throne where their master sat unmoving and The Phoenix standing, anger on her face.

“Hermione, I know you can hear me! Fight her! Come back to me!” Severus yelled as he walked toward her.

“Hermione is lost to you. Give it up or I’ll kill Poppy. I’d kill Sinstra except, I can’t kill another Phoenix,” The Phoenix hissed.

“You won’t kill anyone. Hermione won’t let you,” Severus shot back as he walked right up to her.

“Ugh…Severus…the ritual…now,” Hermione’s voice pleaded as she fought against the evil swirling within in.

“Poppy, Aurora! Now!” Severus screamed as he grabbed Hermione.

“NO!” Voldemort cried.

The two witches began chanting. Flames surged and began dancing around Severus and Hermione. The Phoenix struggled in his grip, but Severus was not letting her go. The flames licked at his robes, the heat burned his skin, but he wouldn’t let her go.

“You can’t do this! No! It’s too late!” The Phoenix cried.

“Not yet it’s not,” Severus said as he glared into her black eyes.

At that moment, blue light surrounded them. The heat and flames were washed away as a wall of ice surrounded them. The Phoenix screamed in agony. Severus stared into her eyes. Slowly, they turned from black, to honey amber. He knew he was once more looking at his beloved Hermione.

“Now Severus!” Aurora instructed.

“By the ritual of Fire and Ice, I claim this woman, this Phoenix, as my life mate. From now until death comes to take me and even after. I am hers just as she is mine,” Severus said.

“By the ritual of Fire and Ice, I claim this man, this Wizard, as my life mate. From now until death come to take me and even after. I am his just as he is mine,” Hermione repeated.

Suddenly the wall of ice was joined by a wall of fire. As Hermione and Severus clung to each other the two elements swirled faster and faster. The couple was lifted about four feet off the floor. The Death Eaters and Voldemort watched in stunned silence as the two elements slowly disappeared, lowering the couple back to the floor as it did so.

“Is it over?” Hermione whispered, trembling in Severus’ arms.

“Yes. It’s over,” Severus sighed with relief.

“No! I’ll kill you!” Voldemort roared as he surged to his feet.

“I don’t think so,” Hermione hissed as she extended her hand. Voldemort froze and began rising into the air. “Tell you lackeys not to try anything or I fry you right now,” she hissed.

“Don’t move. Stay where you are,” Voldemort ordered.

“But my Lord we can take them,” Lucius insisted.

“You go ahead and try it Lucius, but there are two Phoenixes here. What do you think you can do against us? Hmm? Not a damned thing,” Hermione retorted.

“Please, don’t kill me,” Voldemort begged.

“I’ll offer you no mercy you son of a bitch. Prophecy be damned,” she said as she too began floating.

The flames that surrounded her ankles weren’t black, but red. The flames began rising and encircling her body. As they reached her outstretched finger tips, they surged foreword and surrounded Voldemort. His screams echoing off the walls. The Death Eaters sprang into action, as did Aurora.

The Death Eaters yelled the killing curse at Hermione, Poppy, Severus, and Aurora, but to no avail. Aurora shielded herself, Poppy, and Severus, while the curse just bounced harmlessly off of Hermione’s flamed covered body.

“Your evil is over. There will be no returning from where my flames will send you. Hell is too good for you, but Oblivion seems just right. There is no escape from there. Enjoy your stay,” Hermione smiled.

“NOOOOOO!” Voldemort screamed as second before he disappeared in a puff of smoke.

“MASTER!” Lucius, Bella, and Draco screamed.

“What do we do with them?” Poppy asked.

Aurora waved her hand and the two hundred plus Death Eaters fell to the floor unconscious. Hermione landed beside Severus and smiled. “That’s that. Now, let’s get Aurors here and send them to Azkaban where they belong,” she beamed.
