A day and a half had passed and Hermione was not giving any signs of waking up. Dumbledore made the arrangements so Paul could stay at Hogwarts in one of the guest rooms near the Room of Requirements, but he wasn’t even using it, because most of his day he was seated next to Hermione’s bed. Sometimes crying and asking her for forgiveness, others he will just be staring into space, or others he will be trying to gather all her stuff in one bag, planning on leaving the castle carrying her in his arms. In the latest one, he almost succeed if it wasn’t for Draco who entered in the right moment, right now he will have been found running down the hill with Hermione bouncing on his shoulders. That’s the reason why Madame Pomfrey banned him of the Infirmary, giving him an overdose of Snape’s Calming Draught, leaving him floating in cloud nine for several hours.
But the most affected right now wasn’t Hermione, it was Draco. He was seated next to her looking at her like if she was a total stranger. After what happened the previous night he fell in a trance. He could still remember everything like if he was looking everything inside a pensive.
*+*+*Flash Back*+*+*
“HOW DID YOU EXPECTED ME TO CONFESS HER THAT I’M NOT HER REAL FATHER, AND NOT JUST THAT HOW AM I GOING TO TELL HER THAT HER MOTHER IS DEAD?” Those were Paul’s words, after he heard that he saw Hermione’s face went white as a sheet, her eyes rolling backwards and her body collapsing motionless in the couch. He picked her up, but he was so absorbed in the words still ringing in his head that he almost drop her.
He couldn’t move, the realization hitting him with all the force of an angry Giant. He looked at her again her face buried under the wall of blonde hair, even thought her eyes were closed he still remembered the light blue and the golden stripes in them. He looked around in the room he remembered where he had seen that light blue mixed with the grey stripes, he knew where. He looked until his own steal grey pools where locked with the owner of those eyes.
Lucius, he could stand this, he was standing from his chair to leave this good for nothing school when he felt that he was being watched, he looked around and saw Draco looking directly to his eyes. He knew that Draco had figured out why his presence was required in this reunion. Draco’s eyes told him so many things that he could take it anymore, he looked away and fled out of the room. Severus saw the exchange between father and son, and saw how Draco’s arms where giving up, he moved closer and took Hermione in his arms, carrying her to the Infirmary, followed by Madame Pomfrey, Dumbledore, McGonagall and an ashamed Paul Granger, who was cursing himself for being so stupid.
Draco stayed in the Heads Quarter’s. He collapsed in the couch and covered his face in his hands. He couldn’t believe this, it couldn’t be truth.
“It Cannot Be…” He couldn’t take it, he felt like the world was falling around him, he felt like falling in the darkest hole of Hades Realm. His breathing was coming out in short gasps, he could feel the knot forming in his throat, his body started trembling, and when he felt his mother hand touching his back, he couldn’t hold it in anymore. He started crying like a three year old boy who’s mother just left him for the first time in daycare.
“Hush, my dragon, everything’s gonna be okay” Narcisa told him, while comforting him.
“No! Nothing’s gonna be okay, mother… How am I gonna live now? I love her, and… and… She’s my sister! For Merlin’s bloody hat!… She’s my fucking sister!… You know what we were about to do when she changed tonight? I was about to make her mine mother!” He said while clunking to his mother for dear life.
“It’s better this way Draco, I‘m glad that this happened…” Narcisa couldn’t finished what she was saying Draco got out of her embrace and looked at her like if she had grown two more heads.
“I don’t know you, get out of here… Now!” He was out of his mind, he couldn’t believe what he just heard. Narcisa stood from the couch and left the room. Leaving him alone in his sorrow, and his crescent hate for both his parents.
*+*+*End Flash Back*+*+*
Draco let out a sight, this couldn’t be happening to him, not now that he had found someone that truly love him, and he love her back with equal force, but the fate wasn’t fair, it was never just with him. He stood up and was about to leave but when he looked at Hermione again she was starting to move and slowly opening her eyes. He felt a rush of happiness wash over him, but when he locked eyes with her, his happiness fade away, and a new wave of hate invaded his body completely.
Hermione blinked a few time before her eyes adjust to the bright light of the Infirmary, she looked around and found Draco standing next to her. She saw his eyes and gave him a small smile before remembering what had happened, why she was in the Infirmary. She couldn’t hold the tears that started to fall from her eyes, she sit up on the bed and extended her arm to Draco, she needed his comfort she needed to feel him close to her. But Draco didn’t move from where he was.
“Draco, what is it?… What’s wrong?” She asked between sobs. Draco move closer to her and she tried to hug him but he pushed her arms away. He took a hold of her upper arm a leaned close to her face their noses almost touching.
“You want to know what’s wrong?” He hissed, pulling her up by the arm. He pulled her all the way from one end of the Infirmary to the other.
“Draco! What the hell is wrong with you? Let go of me, you’re hurting me!” She said trying to break free from his grip. She was scared, he was acting so strange, this wasn’t her Draco, this was someone else. She was lost in her thoughts trying to find an answer of why Draco was acting like that, but she didn’t understand what was wrong. She was getting nervous, his grip on her arm was tightening.
“Draco please tell me!” She pleaded tears falling again. He stopped but pull her again in front of him, with her back to him.
“You wanted to know what’s wrong? There’s your answer, Granger…” He said pointing at the mirror in front of her. She looked at her reflection, she could see now every detail of her new appearance. She could see the blond hair cascading down her back to her waist, she could see the slightly change on her nose, but her eyes were the ones that caught her attention. She couldn’t believe those were her eyes, they where beautiful, but yet so strange. She was looking for the answer in her reflection, the explanation of why Draco was acting like that.
“Still don’t see it, Granger? Look more closely” He said pushing her against the mirror, she hit the mirror with her body, and there’s when she saw it, she locked eyes with herself, and couldn’t believe what she was seeing. She knew those eyes, she had seen them before with the difference that they were full of hatred and the stripes were a different color. Realization was hitting her with all the force it had.
“No… It cannot be!” She said bursting in tears once again but feeling the pain of everything that happened in her very soul.
“Can you see now what’s wrong… Sister” Draco said giving her a disgusted look and turning away from her, walking out of the Infirmary. Leaving Hermione in there. She collapse to the floor crying with so much pain, that the portraits in the Infirmary, started to cry to.
This wasn’t real, this is just a nightmare, she repeated over and over again inside her head.
“I’m not his daughter!” She screamed. But she was, it wasn’t a nightmare, even if she didn’t want to, she was, the daughter of Lucius Malfoy.
