Chapter Twelve
I\'m glad there\'s been a lot of hits on this story and thanks for the ratings, but I would love some feedback as well!
Remus is a romantic! Sigh! I wish I had a man like that!
Chapter Twelve
Remus was nervous. It was the last day of term; the students were heading back home for Easter holidays today. A week had passed since he’d found out that Billie was pregnant, and it had taken every second of that time to organise his plans for tomorrow.
‘What are you up to?’ Billie had asked him a couple of nights ago when he’d disappeared again. He’d managed to put her off, convince her he just had lots to prepare for upcoming tests.
In truth, he’d been secretly visiting the Burrow regularly, plus a couple of trips to Diagon Alley and the Ministry of Magic. He felt a surge of affection for his friends. He’d called in every favour to pull this off, plus racked up a few IOU’s of his own; and they’d come through for him, going above and beyond his expectations. His already nearly empty vault in Gringotts was tragically low now, but it was worth it. Now, he just had to talk to Billie.
It was a lovely day, the grounds warm and sunny, and he organised a picnic lunch from the kitchen, then found Billie in her office with the Transfiguration teacher, and Deputy Head, Alice Morgan, pouring over timetables for next year. Billie had told Alice about her pregnancy, knowing that, if she managed to hold on to her job, she’d need help for many months. Alice had been delighted for them, and only to happy to step in after the baby came until Billie was ready to come back to work.
‘Morning ladies,’ he said walking into the room. They looked up: Billie smiling, Alice smirking. He’d let her in on his plans, knowing he’d need help getting Billie out of the office today. She was determined to do as much as she could now to make up for the time she’d need off.
‘Hi!’ they both said, and he moved across the room, stopping beside Billie’s chair.
‘Come on,’ he said, grabbing her hands and pulling her out of the chair. ‘I need you to come with me.’
She laughed, then realised he was serious. ‘I can’t, Remus,’ she said, looking at Alice. ‘We’ve got too much to do…’
‘I can finish this off,’ Alice said, pulling the Seventh Year time table towards her. ‘Its nearly done. You go and get some fresh air.’
‘You have to eat, Belle,’ Remus said, then smiled when she refused again.
‘Have it your way,’ he said, moving quickly as he grabbed her and threw her over his shoulder.
‘God, Remus,’ she said breathlessly. ‘Put me down.’
‘Nope,’ he said, walking over to the door, grinning at Alice’s laughter.
‘I’ll come with you,’ Billie hissed, slapping his behind. ‘Just put me down now.’
He did, and saw her frustrated face.
‘You are a pain in the ass sometimes,’ she mumbled, stalking down the stairs.
Laughing, he caught up with her, and by the time they got down to the lake, she was back to her good mood.
They ate, then Billie stretched out on the blanket he’d put down. ‘Alright,’ she conceded. ‘This was a good idea.’
He grinned and lay on his side next to her. ‘You shouldn’t be working so hard,’ he said, seriously, recalling how adamant Rowena had been that she not get stressed. ‘Timetables are easy,’ she said, closing her eyes, enjoying the sun on her face.
Remus watched her, feeling anxious again, knowing it was now or never.
‘Belle?’ he said, moving his hand to his pocket and pulling out a small box, turning it nervously in his hand .
‘Mmm?’ she murmured, putting an arm over her eyes to block the bright light still creeping through her closed eyes. Remus closed his eyes, realising with a start that he was shaking.
Taking a deep breath, he opened his eyes and said softly, ‘Will you marry me?’
Everything seemed to freeze for a moment. Remus watched a still Billie, his anxiety growing. After what seemed like forever, but was only a few seconds, Billie took her hand away from her face, and turned her head to look at him.
‘What did you say?’ she said, her voice sounding a little shaky as she looked at him with wide eyes.
Remus pushed himself up, remembering you were supposed to do this on one knee.
‘I love you, Belinda Johnson,’ he said, staring at her. He held out the now open box, seeing her eyes widen further as she looked at the ring.
‘You have made me happier than I ever thought I could be, and I want to be your husband more than anything. Will you marry me?’
‘Yes,’ she said immediately, before she even had a second to think.
She smiled, so did Remus; until she frowned and said, ‘No.’
It was Remus’ turn to frown, as he watched her sit up.
‘I’m going to take your first answer if you don’t mind,’ he said, feeling a little ill as he sank back down onto the mat.
‘I’m sorry,’ she said, reaching out and taking his hand. ‘I just…’ She paused.
‘I don’t want you to ask me because you think you have to,’ she said, looking worried. ‘We don’t have to be married just because I’m pregnant….although it would probably help calm the parents down once they f…….’
She stopped again and looked at him. ‘That’s why you asked me, isn’t it? Because you’re concerned about the parent’s reaction?’
Remus shook his head quickly. ‘No, Belle, that’s not it,’ he said hurriedly. ‘I’ll admit that our conversation the other night got me thinking, but I would never marry you if I didn’t want to, and I’m not asking because you’re pregnant. I’m asking you because I love you, Bella. I want you to be my wife.’
She looked at him. ‘Are you sure?’ she whispered.
Remus smiled. ‘Should I ask again?’ he said. Billie nodded and he laughed.
He grasped her face and kissed her. ‘I’ve waited my whole life for you. Marry me, Bella,’ he whispered against her lips.
‘Hmm, I’ll have to think about it…’ she began, laughing when he pushed her back on to the mat.
‘Ok, ok,’ she said with a giggle. ‘You don’t have to get all pushy. I’ll marry you.’
Remus looked down at her, running his finger down her cheek.
‘You really will?’ he asked. Billie saw how unsure he was, and cupped his face in her hands.
‘I adore you, Remus,’ she said softly. ‘I can’t wait to be your wife.’ He smiled broadly and kissed her excitedly.
‘Hang on,’ he said, breaking away, and sitting up. ‘You need a ring.’
He picked up the box off the blanket and took the ring out. Billie sat up next to him, and he took her hand, sliding the ring on her finger. They both looked at it for a moment, then Remus looked up at her face.
‘It fits,’ he said with a smile.
‘It fits perfectly,’ she agreed, still looking at her hand.
‘Do you like it?’ he asked, a little troubled by her near silence. ‘You can take it back and choose something else.’
Billie shook her head, looking up at him. ‘I don’t need a ring, Remus,’ she said. ‘You….I know how much you get paid, Remus…..’ He smiled.
‘Don’t, Belle,’ he said. ‘I can afford to get you an engagement ring.’
Billie bit her lip for a moment, then looked back at her hand.
‘I love it,’ she said, her gaze lifting and a smile creeping over her lips.
Remus grinned and kissed her, falling back onto the blanket, allowing the kiss to deepen until it was starting to get unsuitable for public display.
‘Alright,’ she said, pushing at him. ‘We’re in public, Remus.’
‘Kids are all gone,’ he murmured, kissing down her throat.
‘Plenty of staff still here though,’ she said, her mind going blank for a moment as his tongue flicked over her skin.
‘They’re adults. They know how babies are made,’ he mumbled, undoing the top button of her shirt, and kissing the skin he revealed.
Billie laughed and pushed his head off her. ‘That doesn’t mean they want to see a practical demonstration, Remus,’ she said.
He groaned, but pulled away. He looked down at her. ‘Don’t make any plans for tomorrow,’ he said suddenly.
Billie smiled. ‘Do I have to wait until tomorrow to celebrate?’ she said cheekily.
‘Yes,’ he said, feeling a little nervous again. ‘I’m not staying with you tonight. You’re going to the Weasley’s, and I’m staying at my place. It’s bad luck for the groom to see the bride the night before the wedding.’
Billie blinked. ‘I’m sorry?’ she said. Remus took a deep breath.
‘We’re getting married tomorrow,’ he said in a casual tone. ‘Didn’t I mention that?’
‘Um, no,’ Billie said, looking quite stunned. ‘You forgot that bit.’
Remus sat up. ‘I’ve been organising our wedding. I don’t want to wait, Belle,’ he said, hoping she wouldn’t be mad at him. ‘The timing is perfect. It’s holidays, so we can stay away and have a bit of a honeymoon; you aren’t really showing so you don’t have to answer questions all night about it; you’re feeling good, not sick or tired. Everything’s organised. All you have to do is show up.’
She looked a little dazed. ‘Right,’ she said faintly. She was quiet for a moment then looked at him. ‘You’ve got everything sorted out.’
‘Are you furious?’ he asked, hoping she was stunned rather than angry. Billie shook her head.
‘I don’t know,’ she mumbled. ‘It’s a lot to take in.’
Frowning she chewed the inside of her mouth, while Remus waited.
‘What about a dress?’ she asked eventually. ‘I haven’t got anything to wear.’
He smiled. ‘Fleur and Hermione went shopping and chose one for you,’ he said, adding hastily. ‘But there’s time to take it back if you don’t like it. Or cancel the whole thing if it was a really bad idea.’
She looked at him, and slowly smiled. ‘You really are fantastic, you know,’ she said. ‘I hit the jackpot, didn’t I?’
Remus smiled, relieved. ‘So, we’re doing this?’ he asked, unable to hide his happiness. ‘We’re getting married tomorrow?’
‘Looks like it,’ she said with a grin.

‘God, Fleur. It’s gorgeous,’ Billie said the next day, staring at the dress her new friend had chosen. ‘But it must have cost him a fortune.’ The dress had looked beautiful last night, but in the light of day, Billie could see just how gorgeous it was.
Fleur shook her head. ‘It was a gift,’ she said with a smile. Billie looked up.
‘It’s your wedding present from Bill and I,’ she explained, with a smile. ‘I know, strictly speaking, it’s for you, but Remus gets to take it off you, so it’s not like he’s getting nothing out of the deal.’
Bill heard his wife’s words and laughed. ‘The dress is from Fleur, the underwear’s from me’ he said to Billie with a cheeky smile. ‘I told her I’d have a better idea of what Remus would like….’
Fleur smacked him on the arm, and turned to Billie. ‘He did actually help me choose some lingerie, and it’s pretty hot,’ she whispered. ‘It’s in the black bag under the bed.’ She winked and left to dress.
It was only an hour until the wedding was supposed to begin, and Billie was feeling a little overwhelmed. Remus’ friends had really pulled together for them, Molly Weasley and Fleur organising the entire wedding. Arthur and Molly offered the Burrow for the wedding, Remus gratefully accepting.
Molly made the cake and she and Ginny had cooked for a week to stock the buffet; Fleur choosing everything Billie needed with the help of Hermione.
Remus had appealed to Kingsley to use his influence as Minister for Magic to rush through a marriage licence, which his friend was happy to do.
Remus had argued with Harry though, when the young man insisted that he would pay for the whole wedding, refusing to take his money. Harry, the best man, had persisted though and, with Molly’s help, had snuck in extra touches like the tent, the flowers, alcohol and new robes which were waiting for Remus at his house.
‘You’re one of my dad’s oldest friends, and you’re the closest thing to a father I’ve got, Remus,’ he’d said the night before when Remus questioned him. ‘I’ve got the money, more than I ever need. Let me do this for you and Billie.’
Remus frowned, but Harry’s insistence, and his desire to give Billie a decent wedding, wore him down.
‘Fine,’ he’d said, a little grumpily. ‘Thank you Harry.’ Harry had grinned and hugged him.
Now, Remus and Harry were waiting in front of the celebrant, Harry amused by how the usually calm and steady Remus was shaking with nerves.
‘She’s not going anywhere, Remus,’ he said, trying to ease his friend’s mind.
‘I know,’ Remus said, his jaw clenched.
He kept looking back towards the house. Finally, a few minutes late, Billie appeared, walking carefully down the stairs. She stopped at the end of the short aisle, and looked towards the front of the tent, smiling at Remus. He grinned back, a little breathless when he got a good look at her.
Fleur had chosen well. The thin strapped gown was simple but beautiful, flowing over her curves down to end at her ankles. He could see a curve, her baby belly starting to show, but no one else would know. Her hair was up in a loose bun, tendrils of hair framing her face. She walked down the aisle to meet him, taking his offered hand. He couldn’t stop smiling at her, putting his head close to hers and whispering, ‘You look incredible, Belle.’
Smiling, she whispered back, ‘You should see what’s under the dress,’ making him laugh, even as his body stirred.
The ceremony was short, but had all of Remus’ friends in tears, seeing him become a little emotional as he repeated his vows. They all knew how hard Remus’ life had been, and how long he’d waited to find someone who’d love him, despite his faults. Billie, too was a little shaky, also never believing she’d see this day. Neither could hide their happiness when they were pronounced husband and wife, and their kiss threatened to become inappropriate before Harry reminded them of where they were.
‘At least sneak off out the back again,’ he whispered, making them break their kiss and laugh.
After a couple of hours, Billie needed desperately to sit down.
‘God, I can’t believe how tired I am,’ she said, covering a yawn.
Remus sat next to her, a concerned look on his face. ‘Are you alright?’ he said.
She smiled. ‘I’m fine, honey,’ she said. ‘I’m just tired.’
‘We should go,’ he said. ‘Let you get some rest.’
Billie shook her head. ‘Why don’t you go and have some fun with your friends, and let me have a rest here?’ she said, looking at him. ‘I really do just need to sit down for a minute.’
Remus frowned. ‘Sure?’ he said.
‘Will you go?’ she said with a laugh.
He stood up and kissed her on the top of the head, then moved to talk to Harry, who grinned as he reached him.
‘Is Billie alright?’ he asked, having seen her sitting down.
Remus nodded distractedly. ‘She’s tired,’ he replied, with a frown. ‘She’s trying to do too much. I keep telling her to slow down, but she’s determined to have all next years work done before the baby comes.’
There was a moment of silence, in which Remus closed his eyes in exasperation.
‘God, I’ve got a big mouth,’ he muttered, opening his eyes again to see Harry’s delighted face.
‘She’s pregnant?’ he said, getting a hissed ‘Shh!’ from Remus.
‘No one’s supposed to know yet,’ he said, kicking himself. ‘It’s….complicated. It’s not going to be easy for her. There’s a chance….’ He stopped talking, still not wanting to think about how much could go wrong.
‘Are you worried about your…illness?’ Harry said.
‘No,’ Remus replied. ‘Well, not just that. Belle….it’s dangerous for her to be pregnant. We just want to keep it quiet for a while.
Harry looked worried, but nodded. ‘Well, I won’t tell anyone,’ he said. ‘Congratulations, though. I know how much you’ve always wanted children.’
Remus smiled. ‘Thanks, Harry,’ he said. He looked over to Billie, who was chatting with Molly.
‘I think I might take her home though,’ he said, seeing her pale face.
He collected Billie, who said she felt better, but Remus insisted. They said goodbye to everyone, promising to come back in a day or two to visit. They apparated to Remus’ house, where he lifted Billie up and carried her over the threshold.
‘I don’t know if you’ll even want to live here,’ he said as he lowered her to the bed. ‘But I’m not taking the chance.’
She laughed and put her arms around him, kissing him. ‘Thank you for today,’ she said. ‘It was wonderful.’
‘I don’t think it’s me you’ve got to thank,’ he said, standing and taking off his new robes. ‘You’ve got fantastic friends,’ she agreed, sitting up and reaching down to take her shoes off.
‘We’ve got fantastic friends,’ he corrected her with a smile. ‘You get them when you marry me, Mrs Lupin.’ He threw himself down next to her.
Billie grinned. ‘Wow, that sounds strange,’ she said with a giggle.
‘Good, though?’ he asked, twirling a strand of her hair around his finger.
‘Really good,’ she agreed.
Remus stared at her. ‘You are so beautiful, Belle,’ he said, his face showing his longing. ‘So are you,’ she said, her voice shaking.
Remus looked at her for another moment, then lowered his head slowly, his lips meeting hers gently. They kissed slowly, heat and passion slowly building, but Remus was determined to take his time tonight. His shirt was quickly disposed of, and as his hands worked on his pants, he remembered what she’d said before the ceremony.
‘Are you going to show me what’s under the dress now?’ he asked, his voice husky. Billie smiled mischievously.
‘Are you sure you’re up for this?’ she teased, standing up in front of him. ‘You are nearly forty; I don’t want to give you a heart attack.’
Remus laughed and leaned back on the bedhead naked. ‘Stop stalling and get your gear off, woman,’ he said with a smile.
Billie turned her back to him, her hands reaching around for the zip. She pulled it down slowly, the fabric parting to reveal white lace. Remus bit his lip, feeling himself tighten as the dress slipped off her shoulders to pool around her feet.
‘Fuck,’ he said, the curse slipping involuntarily out of his mouth.
She wore a white lace bodysuit, and stockings held up with suspenders. Billie turned around to face him.
‘What do you think?’ she said, running her fingers over the front of the bodysuit. Remus watched her hands move, seeing her nipples harden as her hands brushed over them. The cups pushed her breasts up, giving her cleavage he just about lost control over, and it was cut high in the leg.
‘Oh my god,’ he muttered. She smiled and moved over to the bed, crawling across to hold herself over him.
‘Bill’s got good taste,’ she teased, and he laughed before grabbing her head and kissing her hard.
Billie moaned as his hands moved to her breasts, running his thumbs over her hard nipples. Remus echoed the sound, then shivered as she stroked him gently.
‘Don’t do that too much,’ he warned as her movement became firmer. ‘Otherwise tonight will be a big disappointment for you.’
‘I doubt that’s possible,’ she said against his neck as her lips moved down his body.
He drew a sharp breath when her mouth closed over his nipple, and he shifted one of his hands, running down the lace to cup her ass, groaning at the feel of her and quickly moving his other hand to join the first.
‘How the hell do I get this off?’ he said, after a moment looking for a zip or button. She grinned and reached between her legs, startling him for a second, until he saw the bodysuit come loose.
‘Handy,’ he said as he moved his hand to stroke her, then gently allowed his fingers to enter her body, hearing the strangled sound she made in her throat. Billie moved closer, shifting so the tip of him was nudging her.
‘Slow,’ he warned her, and she smiled.
‘You’ve got a hair trigger,’ she teased, then sighed as she carefully lowered herself onto him, hearing his answering breath.
Stilling for a moment, she kissed him, feeling his hands moving to her face to hold her to him.
Beginning to move, they kissed until they could no longer keep up their languid pace, their breathing becoming ragged and movement erratic. Gripping her to his chest, Remus rolled them over so he was over Billie, his mouth moving to kiss the top of her breast, pushing the cup aside to suck her nipple gently. He moved carefully in her, but when he felt her body tighten and begin to shudder, he couldn’t help the deeper thrust he made, pushing himself into her as far as he could as he joined her in letting go.
Remus is a romantic! Sigh! I wish I had a man like that!
