Chapter Eleven: One Heart Refused to Beat

**Please do not comment on how I write. It's simple. If you don't like it, you don't have to read it. If there are mistakes however, you are more than welcome to point those out. This is Harry/Draco you must like it if you're in this section.**

Wow, it was just a little late, but here it is anyway. Check back on Friday for the 12th and final chapter!!

CHAPTER ELEVEN: ONE HEART REFUSED TO BEAT

There was a weight. It was crushing him, why wouldn’t it move? The light bled through his eyelids it was too bright. A soft noise in the background made his head throb and he tried to make it stop by moving his hand to catch it. Instead, something caught his hand, and held it tight.

“Harry?” The voice called, just a little bit louder than the whispering.

“Wa…ter,” His dry voice cracked.

A shuffling sound began to his left before he felt a cup pressed to his lips. Eagerly he drank the cool water, wondering if he’d drank it all out of the cup before it was pulled away.

“Light…it’s too bright,” Harry said weakly.

More sounds were made before a loud click indicating the light had gone out and he could no longer see it thru his skin. First cracking an eye he noticed he was in a room at St. Mungos, even without his glasses. He had been here enough times that he knew their style in the rooms. Closing it, he cracked open one, and then the other one, seeing a blurry figure, but without his glasses he couldn’t see them.

He was grateful when the person put his glasses on for him, and he was surprised to see Draco watching him with glowing eyes. Wait, something was wrong. The blonde’s hair wasn’t that short the last time he had seen it. No, it was. An image receded back into the dark depths it had emerged from.

“Malfoy? What are you doing here? What am I doing here?” Harry asked.

“You were hit by a curse from a Death Eater, do you remember?” Draco avoided the question.

Harry frowned as his memories struggled to sort themselves. “How are the children?”

“What children? Harry, you were alone in the hotel when Weasley found you,” Draco frowned this time.

“Hotel?” He questioned, closing his eyes for a brief moment. “I was tracking a Death Eater named Avis. I followed him to the Dead Dragon and he caught me off-guard. Before I had the chance to immobilize him, he had already cursed me. Then I woke up here, right?”

“Right. You’ve been in a coma for three weeks now, although the Healer said you were having strange brain wave activity that is un-normal for a coma patient. Do you remember anything from that time?” Draco asked, his hand slipping into Harry’s.

The more he strained to remember the faster he could feel them slip away. Slowly he shook his head, being careful of the building throbbing sensation.

“I’ll go get a Healer, try not to go back to sleep,” Draco said, getting up and turning away.

The blonde was stopped as the sickly pale hand clutching his tightened. Stopping, he turned to look at Harry, silver eyes confused.

“Why are you here, Draco?” Harry asked, gently.

At the use of his first name Draco fell to his knees, his head pressed against Harry’s arm, his body moving like he was crying.

“I thought I’d lost you forever. They said you might not wake up. I almost…it nearly broke my heart,” Draco said, his voice soft.

“Draco, why do you care? We were hardly friends in school and you know it,” Harry said, touching the pale strands of hair that tickled his arm.

“Ever since…ever since you saved me and Goyle in the Room of Requirement I loved you. Still love you. If you left before I got to tell you that I would have died just to be with you,” Draco said, his body wracked with sobs.

Harry allowed the young man a few more minutes before he lifted his head from the bed. “All right, Malfoy. Now go into the bathroom, make sure those Healers don’t find out you’ve crying and fetch a Healer. I’ll even make sure to keep your secret: ‘Malfoys don’t cry’,” Harry smiled.

From the hope in Draco’s eyes Harry could tell that, for the first time in a long while, he was smiling a real smile. The blonde left him to make himself presentable and on the way out of the room he saw the smirk he’d seen since he first met him. The smile said that there would be no way that Draco wouldn’t get what he wanted. As he settled back against the pillow, Harry smiled even wider. Whatever Draco wanted was perfectly fine with him.

Draco sat at his panther’s side, his hand clutching the younger man’s hand in a death grip. He wasn’t sure how the Death Eater had made his way onto the grounds, or even what he was after. The moment he saw his love fall all thoughts seemed to vanish.

He had been the first one to reach him, cradling him in his arms, crying out to him. His panther’s body was cold, lifeless and it shook him to the core. Now he sat at his bedside, fearing the worst. It was only a few more hours until the end of the three weeks, and if they other Harry hadn’t gotten the will to live then his Harry, his panther, would die.

Silver eyes closed, and when they opened there was now only a few minutes until midnight. He squeezed the non-responsive hand, begging whomever was listening to take his life instead.

Beep.

~Please, open your eyes.~

Beep.

He squeezed his hand harder.

Beep.

~I’ll do anything.~

Beep.

His heart was breaking.

Beep.

Every second could be his last.

Beep.

“I need you.” A small movement.

Beep.

“Harry?”

Beep.

His panther groaned.

Beep.

“Please wake up, don’t leave me.”

Beep.

Harry’s lips twitched.

Beep.

“Take care of them.” Draco blinked back tears.

Beeeeeeep.

His heart broke the moment Harry’s stopped, a cry of anguish echoed through the darkened halls.
