11 Harry's Anguish
On Sunday morning, Harry was extremely reluctant to go anywhere near church. When asked why, he told Billy that he felt dirty and evil. Billy got Hermione to talk to Harry while he went on the telephone to John. Within ten minutes John arrived, he took a recalcitrant Harry down into the study.
“Mage Potter. How many people are dead because you acted unwisely?”
“Um … None.”
“Mage Potter. How many people would have died or been seriously maimed if you hadn’t acted as you did?”
“Um … About three hundred.”
Mage Potter. How many families are sorrowing because their loved ones will be seriously incapacitated, for ever, or for many months?”
“Um … None.”
Mage Potter. Pull yourself together, go and thank your troops. Then come and give thanks to God for having the capacity to save all our parishioners. Ego te absolve.”
Harry shuddered as John made the sign of the cross on his forehead in oil. His feelings of guilt slipped away and he registered birds singing, beautiful trees and a bright blue sky.
“Thank you John. I needed that. Billy asked if you worked magic, I think you do.”
“I am but Christ’s agent, Harry. He does the magic. Come on, it’s time for breakfast and then for church, Okay?”
“Yes, thank you again. Will you have some breakfast with us, please?”
“Why not, I went fasting to the eight-o’clock, and I am beginning to feel quite peckish.”
John followed Harry upstairs, secretly giving Billy the thumbs up. Most of his friends were munching, and looked up when Harry appeared.
“Hey Guys! You did a marvellous thing last night. There are three hundred people living now who would probably have been dead, raped and tortured. We took no major injuries, and only three people are out of it. They’ll be back with their families in three days, or so Poppy Pomfrey tells me. You all deserve their thanks, but you won’t get it, because they know nothing of what happened. That, to me, is the biggest accolade of all. We did it and no one knew. Very well done indeed.”
“There is one person who has some idea what happened, Mage Harry. As priest in charge of this parish, I would like to add my thanks on behalf of the three hundred you saved. Know that you will always be welcome here. As Harry said, very well done indeed.”
After breakfast John got on his bicycle and rode off to prepare for the main service. A few minutes later Billy, Harry, Hermione and Ron, donned their outer garments.
“Harry, where are you going?” asked Justin.
“To attend John’s service at church and thank God for our skills and the parish’s deliverance. Don’t you hear the bells calling us?”
“You’re really going to church?” It was Dean this time, wearing an incredulous look.
“Yes. Do you want to come as well?”
Dean looked round at his fellows; they were all rising from the tables. “Yes Harry, we’re all coming!”
Once they had put on neat clothes there was time still to walk, just. So the party set off down the lane at a fairly brisk pace. Luckily for Billy, Hermione had attended church regularly with her parents. So Billy and Hermione were the ones who found places in the books and handed them round. Harry was slightly less at sea and managed some of the sung responses. Justin and Dean had good ears for music and a small quartet formed with Billy and Hermione, encouraging their fellows to join in the hymns.
John’s sermon had hints of blessings that were unseen and how we should give thanks for having the gifts to help others. Harry’s friends took it to heart. As they went out after the service, Harry noticed a couple sitting unobtrusively at the back, one had grey sideboards and the other was a slim maiden in a black dress.
On the green, the choristers just beat the magicians at a friendly game of football. The Farmers Arms and lunch were next. Harry had allowed for the extra Muggle money he would need and Richard gave him a party rate discount.
“After all, Mr Potter; I have over a dozen new customers, little extra effort is needed to cook for many as for four, and staff wages are the main ingredient on many a pub menu. Like the Vicar said; it’s the hidden things that count.” Then he gave Harry a knowing wink.
Dean and Seamus had taken Kreacher and Winky in hand, almost sitting on them to stop them serving everybody.
“Kreacher, just sit still, you’re pretending to be a Muggle, remember. Muggles have people to serve them, just as you do for your two masters. Just pretend to be a master for an hour or so, Okay?”
“But, Kreacher … Err … Master … Err … Winky … Err.”
Harry saw what was happening and came over, Kreacher immediately jumped off his seat, bowing.
“Carter, do you obey your Master always?”
“Yes Master.”
“Good! Sit on your chair, now. Eat the food you ordered and enjoy it. Right?”
“Yes Master.”
Harry went back to his place and Kreacher resumed his seat warily.
The pub had filled up with chatting Muggles surrounding Harry’s party, so substitute words had to be used. The lunch conversations became convoluted, therefore. Rather like Harry’s and Draco’s chat at the ice cream parlour. Some of the mishearing was easy to disguise: Arithmetic for Arithmancy, for instance; Transfiguration was much more difficult to hide and led to a few bizarre misunderstandings. Another problem was their being unused to alcoholic Muggle drinks. The beer definitely was not Butterbeer; cider as apple juice was understood, but it led to many rosy cheeks and a few wobbly legs as they walked back to the cottage.
On arrival they found Mr Foley and Samantha there, come to make arrangements about removing the remains of the party.
“Come in, come in.” A rosy cheeked Harry invited expansively. He sobered up quickly when he went on to the patio. Neat piles of washed dishes, canvas, ropes and poles stood around.
“Well Harry. It seems your friends worked half the night tidying up. Well I never.”
Harry looked at his butler, who nodded. Harry smiled and gave him the thumbs up, thinking quickly about an appropriate reply, “Yes, it seems that they did. We didn’t want to seem ungrateful for all the hard work your ladies put in. Your gang were very kind in putting up the marquee, Mr Foley, so we thought it only fitting that we return it to you, properly folded and dry. I’d heard a weather forecast about rain heading our way, so we sought to get things out of the way before they got wet.” Harry crossed his fingers and hoped he had allayed any suspicions.
“Ah … Well … I’ll just drive off to get the gang then. By the way, you can borrow that spare piece of canvas for a week or so if you like”
“Thanks Mr Foley, I’d like that. Perhaps you could give Samantha a lift with the ladies’ plates and trenchers. While you’re gone we’ll get the folded marquee and its trimmings outside for you to collect when you return.”
Mr Foley did as Harry suggested. The friends divided into three groups. One to levitate the goods on to the verge; whilst the other two groups played football in the lane just out of sight, making sure no Muggles saw what was happening with the marquee. It wasn’t courting time for another couple of hours yet and it only took ten minutes anyway.
After tea, Harry flooed Minerva to report on their happenings and receive news of hers. She said that the other party had not been as successful. It seemed also that St Mungo’s was overflowing and Poppy’s wards were being used as an outpost, mainly because people were still recovering from the battle at Hogwarts a few weeks ago. She asked if Lavender and Ernie, two students who hoped to become medi-magicians, could come back to Hogwarts to help Poppy with some of the injuries; they Apparated off within quarter of an hour of the summons. McGonagall also said that the Aurors would call later on in the week, as the uninjured ones were rather swamped taking depositions elsewhere.
There were a few solemn faces at dinner time, as people realised the show was over and they would be returning to a less exciting life at home, so Harry had another bright idea.
“Hey Guys, most of us are still on holiday for another couple of weeks yet. If you want to hang out here for a bit longer, be my guests.” This put some smiles back and a happy common room atmosphere soon invaded the company.
The Weasleys departed that evening because they wanted to be back at the shop; they were also slightly worried about Ollivander and Fortescue being left on their own, even if they were in the newly warded flat. Ron and Hermione said they would be off at the same time, as Hermione\'s parents were expecting them, and they wanted to add some extra wards to the Weasley’s joint flat before then. Angela and Katie, being older than Harry and had already graduated from Hogwarts, both had jobs to go to, so they left that night as well.
Half an hour after the departures, Seamus and Dean asked, very quietly, if they could move into what had been Ron and Hermione\'s room.
“We want to try out sleeping together in a double bed,” Dean admitted, blushing.
Billy and Harry went early to bed.
“Thanks for ringing John for me, it helped enormously.”
“Hermione said you got wrought up after one of these shows. I’m not sure I believed her, But I do now. Are you really feeling okay?”
Harry nodded and Grabbed Billy into a bear hug, complete with a number of sloppy kisses, just to prove he was okay. Naturally Billy reciprocated; enjoying his lover’s exploring tongue. Billy’s hands did some exploring too, slowly unbuttoning Harry\'s shirt, undoing his belt and unzipping his trousers. As if this was a signal, Harry’s hands followed suit, inveigling their way inside Billy’s boxer’s waistband and cupping two beautifully rounded bum cheeks. As they gyrated together Harry could feel his mate’s erection pressed between them.
Harry broke the kiss intending to suckle Billy’s nipples. Billy had the same idea, the result was another succulent kiss, but at a lower level. A gentle tussle developed as to who would suck who, first. Billy solved it by reversing himself and a classic sixty-niner commenced. Viewing his mate, upside down and from underneath was still a new experience for Harry. Right in front of Harry\'s eyes were Billy’s testes, they were moving around in a fascinating way, and quite soon Harry was playing with them softly, kneading and moving them around with his fingers. Billy was following suit, and started to massage Harry’s magic inch. This was just what Harry needed to send him over the top, and, as his seed filled Billy’s mouth, his lover creamed into Harry’s.
Orgasm over, Billy licked Harry\'s luscious lollipop, sending post-orgasmic thrills through Harry’s body. Harry reciprocated and could see his lover’s limbs twitching in response. Cupping his balls, Harry gripped the base of Billy’s cock, not allowing it to subside, the tip of his tongue tickled the slit’s quivering lips, and Billy\'s trembling turned into full blown spasms. Harry suffered a similar fate, gasping as the sensations passed through his genitals, flowing out into his whole body and increasing his already racing heartbeat. The final, all encompassing, shock made every muscle in each of their bodies respond; first by tensing and then by complete relaxation. They stopped breathing for nearly a minute and a half, only gasping in the much needed oxygen just before they blacked out.
Panting, they dimly discerned their partner’s attributes slackening. They were still too high on their thrill to worry about anything else at all, laying beside each other in dazed enjoyment. Harry supposed Billy had reversed again, because, when he woke up later; Billy’s head was resting on his shoulder. The situation was comforting and Harry realised how lucky he was to have such a wonderful lover, then sank back into sleepiness. An hour or so later Billy awoke from his dreams. He looked at Harry, who was sweetly smiling, wondering how such a famous person could love such an ordinary house painter. Gratefully he snuggled up to Harry and drifted off into dreamland again.
Two thankful young men woke on Monday morning, kissed each other in recognition of their loving friendship and lay there stroking each other’s hair in peaceful lazy companionship. It was Kreacher who drew them out of their sweet reverie.
“Masters, everyone else is up and wondering if you are ill. Even Masters Dean and Seamus are having breakfast and they had no sleep at all, last night.”
Reluctantly they arose, showered and went down to breakfast. The tureens smelt as enticing as ever and soon their lost energies were being hungrily replenished. Harry and Billy sat at the same table as Dean and Seamus.
“How did your night go?”
“Very exciting! And yours?”
“Equally amorous, thank you.”
“Harry? What purpose does that space between the double bedrooms serve?”
“It was intended as a passageway into the Barn extension that never got made. Why do you ask?”
“Dean and I have been thinking. We know Billy would like ter get settled into his new abode. As we intend ter accept your invitation and stay on, we thought we’d make ourselves useful. It seems a shame ter throw all the mattresses etc away when we clear out the downstairs bunkroom. So we came up with the idea ter make some accommodation in the barn’s loft.”
“Will it impinge on the roofline? As that’s why the planning application for that bit was turned down, although they did allow us to put in the roof-lights.”
“No! We felt that the accommodation should remain secret, so if you had another incident, you could offer ter accommodate the troops again. We also have had an idea ter enhance your room.”
“Tell me more?”
“The side window overlooking the pool could become a dormer bubble balcony. There’s ample room below the intended roof-line and you would have views on three sides too.”
“Right! Show Billy what you have in mind, if he agrees, I shall be happy too.”
Neville and Luna claimed Harry so he left the other three looking at sketch plans on the breakfast table. To Harry’s intense embarrassment he found that Neville and Luna wanted him to tell them about heterosexual relations, and love. He tried his best, even managing a brief explanation about sheath contraception, about which Luna giggled uncontrollably and Neville turned beetroot red. Harry was greatly relieved when Billy swanned over to say that he thought the plans were workable, and that he was going off to paint Mrs Amis’s house and shop.
Until coffee break there was general mayhem as people moved their belongings. Luna and Susan moved into the room that would become Billy’s. The other four young men moved upstairs into the four-bunk room. Afterwards, an Auror arrived and borrowed Harry’s study as she had come to take depositions. Luna and Neville were first, Justin and Anthony would be next, meanwhile volunteering to help Seamus and Dean with the construction and demolition work. Until he was needed by the Auror, Harry went for an external tour of the cottage’s wards, to see if any remedial work needed doing.
After lunch Harry prepared the remedial wards and went to set them.
With Winky in attendance, Luna inspected the kitchen larder and went with Neville to buy some more provisions. There had been a quiet whip round amongst the remaining DA members, as they did not want Harry to foot the whole bill for their continued stay. Not being needed for an interview, Neville and Luna stayed in the village; chatting to various people whom they had met on Saturday evening; they then returned with Billy when he knocked-off work.
After the Auror left and following dinner, Billy was flabbergasted at the amount of work completed. The proud constructors took him through a new arch and down three steps from the upper floor, into a small lobby. Off this were two rooms, each with their own small bathroom. One room had two single beds, fitted slightly under the eaves. The other room had two similar beds and a bunk of two singles. Luna and Susan had followed the party and bagged the room for two, because they kept on having arguments about the top bunk, which neither of them liked. Whilst the girls moved house yet again, Billy went with the four magicians to sort out how he wanted his flat to look, and where the kitchen was to be fitted. Harry, meanwhile, had received a floo call from Minerva.
“Do you have space to accommodate your three boys and Ernie, please? We are very pushed for space at Hogwarts, and Ernie will have all the skills and potions required to look after them.”
“Yes we can. We have a room with three low beds, and Ernie could have the top bunk, if he doesn’t mind sleeping with his patients.”
“Ernie would like that, as he was wondering how to keep monitoring them regularly.”
“It has another advantage too. Their parents can visit them; it might help them to adjust back to their former lives.”
“Yes, but short visits to begin with, let Ernie be your guide in that. We need to find out how much they remember of the Imperio first. Poppy would prefer not to interfere with their memories if at all possible, after that initial outburst to your vicar, they are still extremely withdrawn.”
“Can I get him involved with the healing process? He has a good idea about what went on.”
“Yes; why not? They may need absolution to help their recovery.”
“It helped me. I was fairly cut up on Sunday morning, after our show. Billy got John to come over and he anointed me. I felt a big load fall from my shoulders.”
“That confirms it then. How soon can you accommodate the boys?”
“Now; if you like; I’ll get Kreacher to prepare the room.”
“That would be very helpful. I’ll see you in half an hour. Please bring some stretcher bearers.”
The headmistress’s head disappeared from the fire and Kreacher appeared with a pop. Harry told him the gist of the conversation and Kreacher went off to make ready. Harry went up top and advised his friends about what was happening and getting volunteers to form the stretcher party.
“Mage Potter. How many people are dead because you acted unwisely?”
“Um … None.”
“Mage Potter. How many people would have died or been seriously maimed if you hadn’t acted as you did?”
“Um … About three hundred.”
