Chapter 11

Mutant VS. Magic

Chapter 11

Hermione couldn’t believe what she was seeing. “Oh my stars and garters,” Hank gasped.

“Going into stealth mode.” Ororo said.

Hermione took a deep breath. She looked over as she felt Logan take her left hand in his right. Their eyes met. Without words, they conveyed how much they loved one another. Both knowing they would face this battle together.

The jet landed on the roof of the military facility on the island. Quickly they exited the jet to help the soldiers who were trying to fend off the mutants and Death Eaters. The thirteen ran forward and stood between the soldiers and the advancing army.

“Hold this line!” Logan ordered.

“Traitors to their cause,” Eric hissed.

He nodded to Pyro. “Let’s take them!” Pyro yelled.

The fight began. Hermione, Harry, Severus, and Draco took on the Death Eaters while Scott, Ororo, Hank, Logan, Kitty, Tin Man, Rogue, and Bobby took care of the mutants. Hermione looked up just in time to see Warren flying up to catch his father who had been pushed off the roof.

“Get the boy,” Eric instructed to Juggernaut. Juggernaut began running, picking up speed as he did.

“He’s going after the boy!” Hermione yelled as she sent a ground of Death Eaters and mutants flying twenty feet away.

“Not if I get there first!” Kitty said and dashed through the wall.

“Kitty!” Logan called after her.

Kitty ran through wall after wall. She quickly caught up with Juggernaut. She jumped foreword, grabbing his legs and pulling him down into the floor. She smirked as she resurfaced from under the floor.

“Don’t you know who I am?” he asked as she ran off. “I’m the Juggernaut bitch!” he cried. A second later he broke free and gave chase.

Kitty could hear him closing in one her. She knew she had to time this just right. At the last second she turned and watched as he continued moving through wall after wall. She quickly caught her breath and started running to where the boy was being kept.

She burst into his room and found him cowering in a corner. “It’s alright. I’m here to help you,” she said calmly as she knelt beside him.

The two turned and looked at the wall Kitty had just run through when they heard the crashing of walls growing closer.

“Come on,” Kitty replied as she took his hand. She turned to the wall to go through it, but couldn’t.

“Your powers don’t work around me,” the boy explained.

Another crash. They spun around with their back to the wall. “Stay close to me,” she whispered. He nodded.

They covered their heads as drywall and concrete shattered into the room.

“I’m the wrong person to play hide and seek with,” Juggernaut smirked.

“Who’s hiding…dickhead,” Kitty challenged.

Juggernaut gave a growl and began charging them. Just before he collided with them, Kitty grabbed the boy and pulled him to the side. Juggernaut’s momentum sent him crashing helmet first into the concrete wall. He bounced off and landed on his back…out cold.

“Voldemort! Where are you you bastard! Stop hiding and face me you coward!” Harry yelled over the fighting.

“Who said I was hiding Potter?” Voldemort countered as he moved out of the shadows.

“You and I have unfinished business you asshole,” Harry growled.

“It would seem we do,” Voldemort nodded.

The two Wizards stood in the middle of the chaos just glaring at each other. At the same moment they drew their wands and yelled the Killing Curse. Their wands locked in a flash of green. Their wands connected because of their shared cores.

“You’re not strong enough to beat me! I will kill you and then everything will be mine!” Voldemort laughed evilly.

“Didn’t anyone ever teach you not to underestimate your opponent? NOW!” Harry screamed.

Before Voldemort could blink, Scott and Hermione blasted him. Scott turned his visor as high as it would go, hitting him full force in the chest. Hermione held out her hands and sent a wave of fire rushing toward the Wizard.

The Death Eaters stopped fighting as they saw their master melting into a pile of ash. Suddenly, Hermione was knocked to the ground. She looked up into the eyes of Ron. He held the tip of his wand at her throat.

“You bitch! You’ll pay for this!” he yelled.

“No Ron. You will,” Hermione said calmly.

A second later she and Ron were engulfed in flames. His screams of pain echoing over the roar of battle.

Logan looked over as Hank knocked a mutant ten feet into the air. “Is this what you call a diplomatic solution?” Logan joked.

“There comes a time when one must…” Hank started, but paused when he knocked another mutant away from him. “Ohhh…you get the point,” Hank growled.

Logan smirked as he continued his own fight. He looked over as Hermione ran over and joined him once more. Slowly, the Death Eaters and mutants began to lessen. Logan looked up. He grabbed Hermione and threw both of them to the ground just before a fiery car landed where they had just been standing.

Hermione and Logan scrambled to their feet and ran for cover. They met up with the others as the soldiers too tried to take cover from the flying car infernos. Logan looked over at Bobby who was holding Rogue close.

“Iceman, think you can take your old friend?” Logan asked.

Bobby nodded. He let got of Rogue and ran off. “What do we do now?” Harry questioned.

Hermione looked down. She elbowed Logan. He quickly saw what she did. He looked at the others. They all nodded. “Together. As a team,” he said.

“United,” Hermione nodded.

Eric smirked as he saw Tin Man grab Logan and begin spinning him. A second later, Logan let out a yell as he flew through the air at Eric, claws out. Eric held up his hand and caused Logan to come crashing to the ground. Logan slid on the gravel the last few feet and came to a stop at Eric’s feet. Eric flicked his wrist and Logan was flipped onto his back.

“You never learn do you Wolverine?” Eric chuckled.

“Actually, I do,” Logan smirked.

“AAHH!” Hermione screamed as the plunged four needles with the cure into Eric’s shoulder.

Eric looked at her in shock as he dropped to the ground. Logan stood up and moved to stand beside his fiancee. They looked down at Eric as he convulse, the cure stripping his powers.

“How could you Hermione? I’m one of….” Eric whispered.

“A human?” Logan finished for him.

Hermione gave Eric one last sad look before she and Logan turned. They found Jean standing on a pile of rubble watching what had just happened in shock.

“It’s over Jean!” Hermione called to her.

“I told you! This is what they want!” Eric yelled.

“Jean, come home! The fight’s over!” Hermione pleaded.

“NO DON’T!” Logan screamed as a group of soldiers ran up behind Jean.

Jean spun around and instantly, the soldiers disintegrated. Hermione and Logan began running back to the others. Yelling for everyone to take cover. As Eric ran away, he looked over his shoulder as Jean used her power to disintegrate more people.

“What have I done?” he whispered.

“What now?” Rogue asked.

“Hermione, you Cyclopes and Storm get everyone out of here,” Logan ordered.

“Logan…” Hermione started.

“I know Hermione. I love you too,” he smiled softly. He pulled her to him and kissed her. “Now go. I’ll meet you guys. Go!” he yelled as he pushed her into Scott’s arms.

Once he knew they were away, he stood up and began walking toward Jean.

“JEAN!” Logan cried.

Hermione was pacing while Severus went around healing the bumps and cuts the others had sustained in the fighting. It had been an hour since they left Logan and still no sign of him.

“He’ll be fine Hermione,” Scott reassured her.

“Are you sure Scott?” Hermione asked worriedly.

Before he could answer, there was a rustling in the bushes. Hermione spun around and found Logan walking toward them, Jean in his arms. Scott, Hank, Ororo, and Hermione rushed to him. Gently Logan laid Jean in Scott’s arms.

“I’m…I’m sorry. There was no other way,” Logan said tearfully.

“I know Logan. At least she’s at peace now. That gives me comfort,” Scott nodded.

Logan turned away and pulled Hermione tightly to him. Hermione wrapped her arms around his neck, clinging to him. As they held each other, they let their tears fall. Tears for the loss of Charles and Jean and the countless innocents that died in the fights. Tears of happiness that they had survived and would live to see another day.
