My heart is a fist
The following night, Faith was patrolling alone.
‘Just like every other night since...’ She swallowed and tried to focus on any sign of life...or rather unlife. But her mind just wasn’t into slaying. She felt something vibrating in her back pocket. Caller ID: Buffy.
‘ She must be wondering where I am again...She just doesn’t understand I need to be alone.’ Losing Seena had been very hard for Faith, mainly because she was the one to know how easy it is to fall into the dark side. And Faith had made a promise to herself that she would get her friend back from that place. She and Kennedy had spent nights trying to reach the Nemesis, somehow, spying on the entrances of Sigma’s building. They never gave up, until finally Kennedy left. Faith remembered that night a few weeks ago, where the two of them were patrolling in the graveyard, the other slayers following several feet away.
“ You know, I understand Seena. I know why she doesn’t want to come back.”
“What do you mean?” The Rogue Slayer had frowned.
“Seeing the only girl she loves with someone else, touching, laughing, being in love. I can’t deal with it either. And it’s killing me, slowly...I just can’t stay here anymore, Faith. I need to move on...and move out.” Kennedy had sighed and turned to face the older girl. Her eyes were filled with sorrow. Faith’s were stuck on the ground. There was a long silence.
“When?”
“As soon as I can, probably tomorrow morning...” Another silence. “But we’ll see each other some day. And I hope when we do, you’ll finally have figured things out.”
“Like what?” Faith had replied, perfectly knowing what Kennedy was talking about.
“Like the one person you love more than anything. Trust me, if you let her go, you’ll regret it for the rest of your life.”
Faith sat on a stone, thinking about Kennedy...and Buffy. Part of her was angry with the blonde girl, because she had stopped believing in Seena’s good side. And somehow, it was bringing Faith back six years earlier, in Angel’s mansion. Buffy’s knife on her throat, hers on Buffy’s, the staring, the tension. And then she had fled. And the following year, in the church, where all they wanted to tell each other had been spoken with fists and kicks. And then, there was the jug. Faith had survived, had fought the darkest side of her, not only for herself, but also for Buffy. Faith’s turmoil was interrupted by sounds of fighting. She immediately ran to the source of the noise and froze when she reached it.
“Seena...” Faith murmured. The young brunette was standing a few feet from her, holding in the air some kind of demon in a tuxedo.
“I swear, I gave the amulet to Janak! I don’t have it anymore! Mr S. made a mistake!” The demon was whining. He had a Chernobyl green skin, red horns and looked like he was coming from some bollywood movie.
“Mr S. never makes mistakes. Give me the amulet or die.” The Nemesis replied codly, with a very low voice.
“Seena!” Faith called, which caused Seena to turn her attention from the demon to the brunette. Chernobyl guy took this opportunity to pull out a dagger from her tuxedo and hold it above Seena’s head, ready to stab her. “Watch out!”
But The Nemesis tightened her grip on the demon’s throat until every bone and muscle was crushed from the pressure. He dropped dead on the fresh grass when Seena released him. The two brunettes faced each other, in silence. After a moment, the young witch broke the silence.
“Aren’t you supposed to kill me?” She asked, with an emotionless voice.
“Don’t start with me kiddo...” Faith chuckled and took one step closer, but Seena moved backwards.
“I can’t.” Faith looked stern.
“Allright, look...I think we should-” The slayer couldn’t finish her sentence as she was tackled from behind.
