A battle

Any character or place you recognize belongs to J K Rowling

In ten minutes the entire group of perhaps a hundred people were whisked away to a field outside little Hangleton. No one saw them arrive but Voldemort knew they were there and gathered his followers as the good side patiently waited. Harry drew Gryffindor's sword and held it high as his enemy walked onto the field. He stood at the front of his army ready to defeat evil.

Hermione gripped Draco's hand tightly as Harry shot a killing curse out. Voldemort ducked but the shot was not meant for him but for the snake at his feet. It lay down dead and Voldemort screamed in agony.

"HARRY POTTER!!!" He felt his sould was hanging by a thread. With that the battle began.

Harry and Voldemort advanced on each other with swords held high one studded with rubies and the other with emeralds. They seemed to glow in anticipation. Around them the battle had broken out. Ron covered Harry's back. Hermione's wand was a blur as it sent out the most complicated spells she knew. A storm began to gather above them and rain began to fall but the battle continued unhindered. Bellatrix Lestrange was the first to fall at the hands of a furious Neville. Then Seamus was struck and went down. And Ginny. Harry's eyes were glowing a brilliant green. He was shooting every curse he knew at the dark lord but he only seemed to be getting stronger and finally Hermione realized why that was and yelled out over the wind.

"It's love Harry! You have to defeat him with light spells!" Harry rarely argued with her logic and began sending cheering charms and love spells at Voldemort. He began to weaken. Hermione didn't realize she had stopped to watch until there was a shout behind her. Then someone threw themself onto her and slumped limply.

She laid the person down to see who it was and screamed. "Draco!" She threw herself on him and poured all her love and will for him to live into him and he began to glow violet. Hermione didn't even notice as she was sobbing into his chest. He was the one who had saved her from herself. She would never have survived without him and she couldn't now. Her tears soaked through his clothes and he pulsed brighter and suddenly great gasps of breath racked his body but he didn't come too. Hermione cast a protective spell over them and watched Harry.

He had a glowing white orb at the end of his wand. Hermione could see runes in it that she had only heard about and runes for spells she knew. All of them represented his love for his friends and hate for Voldemort and all he stood for. Love and Hate in balance and then the orb shot out of his wand. Voldemort's eyes widened and a single wisp of air escaped his lips before he was obliterated. Never to return. Harry collapsed as a wave of powerful wind swept over everyone knocking them down. The death eaters fell down dead like ten pins. Hermione was the only one consious when it was all over. With the last of her remaining strength she cast a huge portkey spell over everyone that transported them all back to the hogwarts infirmary.

To say that Madame Pomfrey was surprised when over a hundred people arrived in her infirmary would be an understatement. She was shocked. She quickly took stock of the dead and laid everyone else out on mats or beds. There was an astonishing amount of collective injuries. Hermione seemed to have only a few cuts and bruises but Mr. Malfoy's heart seemed to have stopped briefly but he would live. Harry Potter was not severely injured in body. He had a few nasty scrapes but his magic was severely depleted. Down to the level of a squib. It would come back but it would take time. Some people were already stirring and the matron hurried to attend to them.
