Chapter 11

A/N: Sorry this chapter was so short, just wanted to get out something, and it seemed like a good place to stop.

****Draco’s POV ****
Something was off with Harry. For the first week back from vacation he seemed as jumpy as a first year Hufflepuff, I asked Sev yesterday if I could see him tonight. But now I’m back in our dorm and he just answered as his usual cold self. Maybe I’m delusional, probably too much Christmas egg nog. I shrugged it off and joined in the conversation, mostly just me and Blaise but surprisingly Harry seemed in a much better mood and gave a few comments. When nine o’clock came around I gave my excuse and left, Blaise following after me (no one wanted to be alone with Harry, still too uncertain of him). I bid Blaise off before winding my way down the corridors to Sev’s private rooms. I found the portrait of a noble looking dark-haired man and whispering the password to him, walked in to find my Godfather with food set out and reading a potions book. ‘How typical.’

“Haven’t you read them all yet?” I asked rolling my eyes as I plopped myself down next to him, snagging some grapes and propping my feet on top of the table.

“I’ll have you know that this is a newly published book by a highly intelligent Chinese Potion Master, that has far better table manners than you.” He growled giving a shove to my feet which flopped to the ground causing me to jerk up a bit.

“Hmph.” I snorted derisively as I popped a few more grapes in my mouth. “Well I’m glad you got what you wanted for Christmas.” I said jokingly.

“And did you Draconis?”

“Don’t use my full name, Sevy.” I said back earning a growl from him. “And of course I did, but that’s not why I’m here.”

“Oh?” He asked uncaring as his eyes moved across his book again.

“It’s about Harry.” Surprisingly the book went down and he turned to me. ‘Guess I’m not the only one suspicious about him.’ “I’m sure you’ve noticed how odd he\'s been acting the last couple of days. It’s like something happened over the holidays, but he says little more than one word about them, ‘fine’.”

“Harry is a deceptively… unique child.” Sev said slowly. I was surprised, I didn’t know Sev knew Harry was a Parseltongue!

“You mean you know about the… thing.”

“What thing?” Severus asked annoyed.

“The thing about the snake, he bound us so that we can’t really talk about it.”

“What do you mean he bound you? Who?” Sev asked sounding surprised.

“All the Slytherins…”

“Impossible.” Severus interrupted. “He doesn’t have the mind power necessary to…”

“What?” I asked, wondering why he stopped mid-sentence as something clearly clicked in his mind.

“I think Mr. Potter has been sorely underestimated.” Sev said slowly.

“Well duh. Even if I haven’t seen it directly I can still feel how powerful he is, not to mention how easy everything is to him.”

I assume you’re speaking about his classes?”

“Yeah, if there’s something I don’t get, it’s him I go to. And if he’s in a good mood he’ll help and usually tell me things that not even our course books tell us.”

“Odd.” Sev said thinking again.

“What?” I growled annoyed by giving answers and still not receiving any; that clearly went against my Slytherin nature, but this was Sev.

“In all of his classes Potter is but a ‘B’ student. One would wonder why.”

“Obvious Slytherin deception, but again; why would he need to deceive us? It doesn’t matter if we know he is smart or not.”

“No, right now, it doesn’t.” Sev said. I hate how his mind makes these jumps so easily. I guess it made since that he wanted to fool people for the future, but then that brings the question of what he was planning for the future.

“Gah! I have a headache, we’re too young for our lives to be so fucked up already, let’s just eat.” I complained and after a scolding about language we dug into the nice meal, putting the complexities of my roommate aside.

****Harry’s POV****
School continued as normal and with the thought that it would be months before I had to leave again I was able to push the rest of my thoughts of the Dursley’s away and concentrate on learning. Unexpectedly I continued to cut my wrist. I had thought that I just needed to get my control back but now I found it as a kind of release that I was seeking more and more. Nothing too strange was happening, I continued my ruse with the two idiotic Gryffindors, sometimes the old man called me in, putting more compulsions on me, leading me to the Mirror of Erised, Fluffy, and ultimately information on Nicholas Flamel. By the end of the year I new everything about the chamber Fluffy was guarding, including what each teacher contributed (thanks to a little help from Persephone). I kept it hidden from Draco and especially the foolish Gryffindors and when the time came and Quirrell tripped my spell by the door, I disappeared from everyone and went after him.

Now you might be wondering why I’m gong after him. To stop the evil man from getting the precious stone right? Hn, I think not. If Dumbledore sets up some stupid obstacle course to stop the most powerful wizard in the world, then he should get the prize, because it’s the bloody old mans own fault for setting up something so ridiculous. No, what I really want is my chance to see the man that has intrigued me since I entered the wizarding world. It hadn’t taken long to connect Quirrells\' strange actions with signs of possession ergo Voldemort, and I had waited quite long enough for this moment. Overall this year had been a bit boring; it was time for some fun…
