Chapter 12

Disclaimer: I OWN NOTHING

The following Friday was their next potions lesson, and Draco was oddly excited, he and Hermione had been on good terms since that night a few days ago, she had almost been acting, friendly?

He stood in the bathroom fiddling with his platinum locks, which hung loosely around his face and pouted, for some reason he wanted to look his best today.

Finally satisfied with his appearance he walked out the large mahogany doors, giving himself a final wink in the mirror and a quick spritz of colgne before he did so. Smirking slightly he sauntered confidently down to the dining hall for breakfast.

He entered the Great hall in his usual extravagant manner, flinging the double doors open dramatically, his black cloak billowing around him. Pleased that all eyes were on him he gracefully walked over towards the Slytherin table taking his usual seat between Crabbe and Goyle.

However before he could begin his breakfast a high nasal voice pierced the comfortable lull of chatter around him.

“Drakie! Drakie!”

Draco rolled his expressive stormy eyes and let out an exasperated sigh.

“Pans?”

Pansy stared up at him and pouted sulkily in what she hoped was a seductive manner.

Draco suppressed an inward desire to giggle. The prince of Slytherin did not giggle!!

But Pansy looked ridiculous sticking her pale unattractive lips out like that, she looked like a fish, a pug nosed fish at that.

“You’ve been avoiding me, I’ve missed you…”

“Oh” said Draco emotionlessly “I’ve been busy.”

Draco chewed his lip, a habit he had subconsciously picked up from Granger and pointedly tried to avoid Pansy’s eyes.

Looking over towards the Gryffindor table he saw Hermione. She was laughing at something Potty or The Weasel had said and the laughter had illuminated her face, she truly was beautiful.

Draco hadn’t realised he was staring until Pansy reached over the table and roughly shook him by the arm.

Her eyes narrowed menacingly a pale flush rising on her pasty cheeks.

“Who were you staring at Drakie darling?” she asked, a threatening tone evident in her voice.

Draco snapped out of his reverie a dark scowl rising on his face.

“That, Pansy would be none of you business.”

He then proceeded to push his un-touched plate away from him and storm out of the Great hall leaving a perplexed Pansy and an oblivious Crabbe and Goyle behind.

Later in potions Hermione sat, early as usual, waiting for the rest of the class to arrive, she ran her hands over her heavily swollen stomach, smiling in eager anticipation of the lesson.

She had been curious about the potion she had made with Draco, not having been able to find anything similar in the books in the library. She and Draco would have to test it today if they had brewed it correctly and she didn’t like the thought of drinking a potion of which the effects were a complete mystery, her stomach churned nervously, it wasn’t often that she was without answers.

Snape wouldn’t make them drink anything fatal, she was sure of that at least. Well, almost sure.

She suppressed a grin as she saw the rest of the students trail in spotting a red head among the throng. Poor Ron she thought and giggled to herself, without noticing Draco walking towards her.

He cocked an eyebrow at her girlish giggle.

“Something funny Granger?”

Hermione flushed prettily and shook her head.

Draco smirked at her obvious discomfort and opened his mouth to say something when he was cut off by Snape’s silky yet menacing drawl.

“Much to my utter amazement,” He said cocking a raven eyebrow at Neville and Ron, “All of you managed to produce passable potions. I will call one pair at a time letting both members taste the potion, I will then reveal the nature of the it and will expect a full report on the effects by Monday.”

He grinned sadistically causing the entire class to shuffle in their seats.

“Weasley, Longbottom, you first.” He motioned them forward with a long pale finger, taking immense pleasure out of the way the two boys shuffled nervously towards the desk.

Their potion was on the desk shimmering in an alluring violet shade with soft tendrils of pink making their way out from the centre.

The boys stood at the front of the class under the intense penetrating gaze of professor Snape. Ron gulped; it was obvious Neville wasn’t going to make the fist move.

‘Better get this over with’ thought Ron as he un-corked the potion a gulped down half of the mixture. Not bad. It tasted like blueberries; this was a welcome change to the foul bitter taste that most potions held.

He didn’t feel any different yet and shrugged nonchalantly holding out the remainder of the contents for Neville.

Hermione watched rapturously as Neville took the bottle in a shaking chubby hand and after nervously looking around the class room with his pale hazel eyes, hurriedly drank the entire contents.

After re-placing the vial on the desk and wiping his mouth with his sleeve Neville looked up at Ron

Both boys began to scrutinize each other, as if it was the first time they had ever truly seen their partner. Hermione bit her lip and smiled knowingly as she saw both boys’ eyes cloud over lustfully as they stared at each other. Ron was the first to move reaching out to caress Neville’s face.

With a horrifying jolt Ron realised what he was doing and could feel the eyes of his classmates boring into him. He paused and let his hand drop suddenly back to his side. He shook his head harshly trying to banish the thoughts that were invading his mind and pushed Neville away from him.

Ron’s ears flushed a dangerous red as he turned to look at his potions master.

“Sir?” he asked imploringly.

Snape smirked maliciously “That, boys was a 24 hour lust potion. I expect a truthful account by next Monday” He said laying particular emphasis on the word ‘truthful’.

The classroom exploded in tremulous laughter, even Harry couldn’t help but laugh at the predicament his best friend had found himself in.

Ron was absolutely humiliated and his cheeks burned a dangerous scarlet while Neville licked his lips and winked at him. An involuntary shiver ran down Ron’s spine Gods this was going to be a long day.

Later...

The rest of the class had successfully tested their potions, and Draco curled his lip in disgust watching Weasley and Longbottom squirm in their seats. He and Granger were the only couple in the room not to have tested their potions yet and a large ball of anxiety had settled itself in the pit of his stomach, Snape was a crafty man, the epitome of all that is Slytherin and Draco couldn’t shake a gnawing feeling that his head of house was plotting something.

He looked over at Granger who was chewing her lip harshly and he reached over squeezing her hand comfortingly.

Hermione let out a little squeak and pulled her hand away as if she had been burned. She felt incredibly guilty as Draco’s eyes widened with hurt but was called to the front by Snape to test their potion before she had a chance to apologise.

The pair stood up simultaneously and walked slowly to the front of the class, a fearful aura surrounding them, almost reminiscent of a convict on death row.

They reached the front of the class and set their eyes on the familiar potion in front of them.

Noticing Hermione’s hesitancy Draco gallantly picked up the bottle taking the first mouthful.

The potion was thick, almost creamy and yet it had the cool familiar taste of water, he held it out to Hermione smiling gently assuring her that it was fine and watched as she downed the rest of the shimmering gold potion.

Snape watched them with a self satisfied smirk plastered on his lips, when he was sure that they had consumed the entire potion he then began to speak.

“That was a very special potion called the elixir of peace, it allows the drinker, to be able to forgive past discrepancies and hopefully enables them to develop more positive feelings for each other. I expect your report on Monday.”

He smirked once more at the look of shock on the faces of his students and cleared his throat.

“Class dismissed.”

A/N That’s not all folks. Snape is being craftier than he appears. *laughs evilly*
