The Gryffindor common room was nearly empty, save for Dean and Seamus playing a game of wizard’s chess, Rob passed out in an armchair by the fire, and Hermione. Hermione was also sitting by the fire, immersed in “Pride & Prejudice” by Jane Austen. Harry motioned to her to join him in the hallway outside the tower.

“What is it Harry?” she inquired, sensing the distress on his face.

“G…Gin…Ginny…she…Draco…Room of Requirement…didn’t know what…” Harry gestured wildly…finally Harry’s composure finally broke. He felt a surge of relief at the tears.

Hermione, understanding the general gist of Harry’s message, looked horror-stricken. She pursed her lips, nodded tersely, and turned around to go back into Gryffindor tower.

“What? Where are you going…? Aren’t you going to help?” Harry was dumbfounded.

“Of course, don’t be ridiculous. I need to go grab some things from my room. I’ll be right there. In the meantime, you go ahead and stay with her.”

The portrait of the Fat Lady shut behind Hermione and Harry was left alone in the corridor.

I made my way back to the 7th floor corridor, pausing at an ancient grandfather clock in a hallway on my way. It was 3:30am. I entered the Room of Requirement, hesitant as to what to expect. Ginny laid silently where I last left her. I approached the bed and nudged her shoulder gently. A wave of mumbling spewed forth from her tiny, perfectly shaped pout.

”Ginny, can you hear me? Are you awake?” I shook her shoulder again. She rolled her head around a bit.

“Ginny, I’m going to draw you a bath, and then I’m going to have to get you in it. Don’t be alarmed okay? Hermione is on her way too. Everything will be alright. I swear it. I promise.”

I felt tears stinging at the corner of my eyes. She looked so fragile, small…broken. I half-wanted to hunt down that bastard now.

“Bloody git. I’ll get him.” I hadn’t meant to speak the words aloud.

I lifted Ginny up once more and carried her behind the folding screen. Surprisingly, or maybe not so much for the Room of Requirement, there was already a hot bath drawn in the tub. I uttered a simple spell to remove Ginny’s robes, turning my head away as I did so.

“Divestio.”

Still averting my eyes, half for Ginny’s own pride and half because I couldn’t bear to see her wounds, I lowered her slowly into the tub. I felt her wince and noticed her eyes flutter as she sank lower into the warm, soapy bathwater.

Across the room, I heard Hermione enter. She bustled about, setting up god-knows-what on the other side of the screen. I heard her cast a few enlarging spells on the items she had gathered and brought with her. Soon, she was approaching Ginny and I.
“How is she doing?” Hermione asked.

“I don’t know. I think she’s in shock. There don’t seem to be any significant wounds…just scrapes and abrasions, likely some bruising.”

“Bloody hell, Harry, you’ve got her in the bath already?” she sounded furious as she crossed to the other side of the screen.

“Yes, of course…why wouldn’t I?”

”Have you ever hear of a little thing called EVIDENCE, Harry?” She sounded exasperated.

“Oh. Oh good lord. I’m sorry, ‘Mione…I’m so sorry…I wasn’t thinking…she…I….” I floundered for words.

“Christ that’s the last of our worries right now, never-you-mind. Let me see…” she reached for Ginny’s slender wrist, pulled it out of the bathwater, and held her arm out. She examined cuts and scrapes, finally uttering a few healing spells. She proceeded to do this with both of Ginny’s arms, and then both of her legs as well.

“Let’s see if we can get her out of this bath and into bed. I should attempt to do some sort of an…erm…exam.” Hermione seemed apprehensive.

“Exam? As in? Oh…yes…erm…okay.” I lifted Ginny out of the bath and into my arms and a warm towel. I covered her quickly, once more averting my eyes. I was thankful I had chosen to go to Hermione rather than Madam Pomfrey more than ever now. Surely Ginny would be far more comfortable knowing Hermione would be taking care of her, not that anything was wrong with Poppy.

I decided it was likely best if I left the room while Hermione performed the examination. I stepped out into the hallway and paced, imagining the variety of ways in which I could, and WOULD, exact my revenge upon Draco Malfoy.
