back to class

Thanks again for the reviews. All the usual disclaimers, again… not mine.

Hermione had been right. Everything wasn’t as bad as she had thought it would be at first. Just the usual idiocies from Malfoy. But, that was a given. He didn’t comment until dinner was done and they were heading back to their common rooms. Surprisingly, he wasn’t that bad. All the he said was something about letting non-humans into the school, again. The trio guessed he just wasn’t up to tumbling with Hermione because of his last episode with her before she left with Lupin.

Now it was time to start classes again. Their first class of the day was Transfiguration with McGonagall. Taking their usual seats in the middle of the class, she had them get out their text books and read about the art of human transfiguration. Hermione just skimmed over hers. She had all ready read these chapters. Ron was happy this class involved only reading, and that they wouldn’t be getting into the actual act of trying transfigure ones self or someone else for a while yet. Harry couldn’t wait. Part of this section covered being an animagus. He paid particular attention to that.

The bell rang and they all put their books back in their bags and headed to their respective common rooms for a short break and to get the books they would need for next class. It was Care of Magical Creatures. And everyone was afraid of what Hagrid would have in store for them this time. But before Harry, Ron, and Hermione could make it to their room, Lupin stopped them.

“Hello Harry, Ron. Hermione, could I speak to you a moment?”

“Um, sure. I all ready have everything I need for my next class.” After saying good-bye to Ron and Harry, Lupin lead her to small classroom by the front doors.

“Is everything going okay? Haven’t had any problems with anyone?” He asked her.

“No. Everyone is acting like the accident never happened, for which I’m thankful. There was just a snide comment from Malfoy, last night, which was to be expected.”

“Good, good. Well, I just wanted to check in. Make sure everything was all right. If you need anything, just let me know. I’ll be around. You better head on out to class before you’re late.”

“Thanks.” She turned to leave the room, then stopped and turned back around. “Actually, sir. There is one thing…” she trailed off.

“Yes?” He asked.

“Well, I was thinking. Well, I was wondering if maybe you could speak to Prof. Dumbledore about getting me a pensive? I think it might well come in handy. So I can sort out my thoughts, you know.”

He gave her a small smile. “Of course. I’m sure that would be no problem at all. I’ll let you know tonight at dinner, okay?”

“Yes, thank you.”

She turned to leave again and made her way out to Hagrid’s small hut where the class was still taking place. She was the only one there. She didn’t have to wait long for the rest of the class to begin showing up. Once everyone was assembled, Hagrid came out and began class, giving Hermione a smile and asking if she was okay. And asked if he could talk to her after class. He wanted her opinion and approval on something.

When class was over, she stayed behind and talked to him for a good thirty minutes before heading back up to the school and to dinner. Sitting down at the table, Harry and Ron asked what that was about. She informed him that Hagrid had planned on doing a few classes on werewolves, and with her now being one, if she would mind or if it would be a touchy subject. She had told him that would be fine, seeing as she still didn’t know everything there was to know about being one.

In the middle of dinner, and owl came in and landed in front of her, carrying a letter. She took the letter, gave the owl a drink of her pumpkin juice and a small bite of bread and then opened the letter. After reading it, she looked up at the head table and gave Lupin a smile and mouthed the words ‘thank you’. He smiled back and mouthed, ‘your welcome’. Curious, Harry and Ron leaned over to read the letter she had received.

Dear Hermione,

I spoke with Dumbledore, and he said that was okay. Your pensive should be here within the week.

Sincerely, Remus Lupin.

After reading it, the boys looked at each other, then at Lupin, then back at each other again and raised their eyebrows. Since when did Remus sign his name Remus Lupin, and not Prof. Lupin?

Okay, that’s the end of this chapter. Hope you like it. Next chapter, maybe we’ll see something from the Pensive??
