Chapter 12: Devastating letter.
Chapter 12: Devastating letter.
Sarah was sitting in the Slytherin cn ron room just before breakfast waiting for Jasmine to come down. It was a four days away from the last day of school. Ever since the day Anthony had left Hogwarts Sarah and Draco have been really close friends. They always had fun together and Sarah liked it that way.
Jasmine walked down from the girl’s dorm and into the common room. Sarah looked up at her friend and waved.
“Hey Sarah.” Jasmine sat down next to her.
“Do you wanna go to breakfast now?” Sarah asked.
“Yeah, but in a second I want to talk to you about something first.”
“Oh and what is that?” Sarah was slightly worried.
“Is there something going on between you and Draco?” Jasmine asked with a little bit of a jealous tone.
“Oh, no, no. We’re just friends.” Sarah assured.
“Bullshit. A girl is never friends with Draco Malfoy, not even Pansy was his friend.” Jasmine snapped.
“Well if you don’t believe it then that’s your problem! Draco is my friend and that’s all.” Sarah stated.
“But how could you be friends with him after what I told you he was like?”
“And how do I know if you’re telling me the truth about him?” Sarah questioned. Jasmines face turned a bright red. Sarah saw Draco standing at the foot of the boy’s dorm steps watching hers and Jasmines angry conversation, but not hearing it. “Draco!” Sarah stood up.
“Hey.” Draco grinned.
“Come on. Let’s go to breakfast.” Sarah grabbed his arm and led him out of the common room, laving Jasmine infuriated.
“What was your little fight with Jasmine about?” Draco asked.
“Um.” Sarah thought it would be better if she didn’t tell him it was about him. “She was just telling me to stop keeping her up all night.” Sarah lied.
“How do you keep her up?”
“I don’t know.” Sarah shrugged.
“That’s a bit weird.” Draco laughed.
“Yeah it is.” Sarah laughed with him. “You’re a good guy Draco.”
“Thanks. You’re a nice girl.” Draco slightly blushed.
“I used to hate you so much.”
“I never hated you.” Draco said softly. Sarah looked at him. She looked into his eyes and saw a spark. It was a different kind of look that she saw. Sarah had no idea what to do.
“That’s… ah… nice to know Draco.” Sarah stopped walking just before the Great Hall. “I’m glad we’re friends.”
“Yeah me to.”
“Come on.” Sarah walked into the Great Hall. Draco followed her. Sarah sat down at the Slytherin table and Draco sat down next to her. No one looked at them anymore, well not as much as they used to. It seemed as though they had gotten used to seeing Sarah and Draco being friends. People would whisper around that Sarah and Draco were a couple but they weren’t, and if they were it would have been the longest, if any relationship that Draco would ever have.
Sarah picked up her knife and fork and began to eat her breakfast. She watched Jasmine walk in and sat down opposite her, giving her dirty looks.
Sarah looked up at the head table and saw that Dumbledore looked unhappy. She wondered what was wrong. Actually most of the teachers looked unhappy. She had a sudden overwhelming feeling that something horrible had happened recently.
The owl’s started swarming into the hall. One owl dropped a letter in front of Sarah. She picked up the letter, the overwhelming pain getting worse. There was something in this letter that was bad. Draco looked at her.
“What’s wrong?”
“No, nothing.” Sarah slowly shook her head. She didn’t know whether to read it or not. She felt so sad. She slowly opened the letter and read it.
Dear Sarah,
Hi sweetie. I’m so sorry to tell you this but something horrible happened late last night. Your father was told that there was a fight in the ministry last night with the Death Eaters. Sirius was there. Sirius died –
Sarah couldn’t read on. She found it hard to breath.
“No, no, no.” Sarah whispered. She stood up. “NO, NO ,NO!” Sarah screamed as she felt her hear break.
“What is it?” Draco asked. Everyone in the hall stared at her. Snape and Dumbledore knew what had happened and kept and eye on Sarah.
“NO!” Sarah cried. She ran out of the hall. Dumbledore and Snape stood to run after her. Draco stood up to.
“Stay there Mr. Malfoy.” Snape ordered as he hastily walked past. Draco just stood still.
Sarah ran outside and over to the lake. Tears ran down her face, as she dropped down to the ground.
“He can’t be dead. He can’t be.” Sarah sobbed. “HE CAN’T BE!” She screamed, hitting her fists on the wet grass. This just couldn’t be right. Sirius couldn’t be dead. He just couldn’t be. Sirius was her uncle. She loved him and now he was gone. Sarah could hear footsteps running up behind her.
“SARAH!” Dumbledore’s croaky voice called. Sarah put her head down to the ground and her arms above her head. She just sobbed and sobbed. “Sarah dear what is wrong?”
“He’s dead.” Sarah mumbled. Snape stood by Dumbledore’s side.
“Who is?” Dumbledore asked. He knew who she was talking about but wanted to see if it was really him.
“Sirius.” Sarah cried.
“Severus help me get her up.” Dumbledore grabbed one of Sarah’s arms and Snape grabbed the other. They both pulled her up to her feet. Dumbledore knew who Sirius was to Sarah, he knew pretty much everything about Sarah and her family. Why? No one knows. Sarah wiped all of her tears away.
“Why did he die? He never did anything wrong.” Sarah cried.
“Things happen for a reason.” Dumbledore said softly. “And you and I know that Sirius in innocent, but the ministry did not.” Sarah looked up at Dumbledore, wet tears staining her cheeks. “Let’s have a seat shall we?” Dumbledore walked over to the bench by the lake. Sarah followed him with Snape following her. They sat down and Sarah sat down in-between them.
“He was my only other family.” Sarah sniffed. Dumbledore frowned. That wasn’t true and he knew. She would find out who was her real family in due time.
“Do you know Harry Potter?” Dumbledore asked.
“I have heard of him. But who hasn’t heard of Harry Potter?” Sarah looked up at Dumbledore again.
“Yes.” Dumbledore chuckled. “Harry is mourning just like you.”
“Yeah I guess he would be. Sirius was his god father.”
“If there is anything you want to talk about please come to me. I’ll be glad to help you.” Dumbledore offered.
“Thank you sir. But I must say you are very busy. I think I should just leave you.”
“Oh nonsense. I shall always have time for my students.” Dumbledore patted Sarah’s hand. “Just remember any help you need come to me.”
“Thank you sir.” Sarah smiled.
“I must be going.” Dumbledore stood up. “I shall see you later Sarah.”
“Yes sir.” Sarah nodded. Dumbledore smiled and walked off. Sarah turned and looked at Snape. “Thank you too professor, for sitting with me.” Sarah laughed a little bit.
“Yes.” Snape gave a small flicker of a smile. “What professor Dumbledore said goes for me as well.”
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. I’ll be going now.” Snape stood up.
“Good bye professor.”
“Bye.” Snape walked away. Sarah sat there on her own. She read the letter over and over again. She felt so horrible, so empty, so angry. She could feel her eyes water again.
“Why, why, why?” Sarah asked herself. She wiped away a tear. She laid down on the bench and slowly closed her eyes.
“Sarah.” A voice in the distance called. “Sarah, Sarah.”
Sarah looked around. She was in a different place. In a bright white room. She looked up and saw Sirius.
“Sirius?” Sarah felt happy.
“Yes.” Sirius nodded.
“Are you really gone?” Sarah asked.
“I might be” Sirius shrugged.
“That’s just like you, always making a joke out of everything, even your own death.” Sarah smiled, then frowned.
“Don’t cry for me please.” Sirius pleaded.
“I can’t help it. I miss you.” Sarah reached out to touch her uncle. Sirius took her hand.
“I will always be here for you.” Sirius smiled.
“Thank you.” Sarah smiled. “Why do bad things always happen to you Uncle Si? Why? You should be here with us.”
“Sarah I don’t know why. I wish I was out there with you too.”
“I can’t believe you’re actually gone.” Sarah sighed.
“I’m not gone. I’ll always be here.” Sirius’ face started to fade away.
“Where are you going?” Sarah asked.
“My time is up. Say hello to your mother and father for me.”
“NO! Sirius don’t go, please.” Sarah cried.
“I’m always here.” Sirius repeated till he was gone.
“NO! SIRIUS!” Sarah sobbed. “Sirius.”
“Sarah?” Draco shook Sarah’s shoulder as she cried and talked in her sleep. “Hey Sarah.”
“Siri-” Sarah whined. She started to feel her body shake. She slowly opened her eyes and saw Draco looking over her. She sat up quickly. “Draco?”
“Yeah.” Draco sat down next to her. Sarah wiped her eyes. “What happened?”
“Just a little upset that’s all.” Sarah mumbled.
“You must be really upset by the look of it.”
“Yeah I am.” Sarah admitted.
“Want to talk about it?” Draco asked softly.
“No actually.” Sarah shook her head.
“That’s ok. But I want to talk to you about something else.”
“What about?”
“Sarah.” Draco picked up Sarah’s hand. “I like you, I like you a lot.” Sarah started to feel her stomach churn. “I want to be with you.”
“Draco.” Sarah pulled her hand away from him. “I thought we said that we were going to be friends.” Sarah stood up not know whether Draco was telling the truth or not.
“But I want more.” Draco stood up too.
“I’m sorry Draco but there’s nothing more I can give you.” Sarah began to walk off.
“Sarah.” Draco grabbed her arm and span her around. “Please I really *want* to be with you.”
“Draco.” Sarah looked away from him.
“I’ve never felt the way I do for anyone but you.” Draco raised his hand to Sarah’s face so she could look at him. “Sarah… I… I… think I love you.” Sarah felt a tingle go down her spine. She looked up into Draco’s eyes.
“How do in know if you’re not lying?”
“I’ll do absolutely anything to prove to you that I am not lying.” Draco said desperately.
“But Draco I told you that I don’t want a relationship.”
“I know but that was a long time ago and I know you want to be with me to. But there’s something stopping you. Tell me what it is.” Draco urged.
“You sleep around Draco that’s what’s stopping me. I hear girls saying that you sweet talk them into falling in love with you. Then once you get them to sleep with you, you dump them. I don’t want to go through that, I don’t want to sleep with you.” Sarah blurted.
“But I’ve changed, I promise. I haven’t been with anyone for the past 3 months because I wanted to be with you. We don’t have to sleep together. All I want is to be with you. We don’t even have to have sex ever. I just want to be with you.” Draco stated. “Please give me a chance.” Sarah smiled.
“Ok Draco. But if you stuff up in any way I’ll make you hurt so bad that you’d wish you were .” S.” Sarah threatened.
“Good enough for me.” Draco grabbed Sarah’s head and pulled her into a passionate kiss. Sarah had never had a kiss that felt so amazing. Sparks literally flew around them and her body tingled like it had never tingled before. Sarah pulled away reluctantly.
“I have to go to Dumbledore Draco. I’ll see you later.” Sarah smiled and slowly walked away.
“Ok.” Draco smiled. He stood there thinking about what happened.
