Breaking Ties
Paperwork
They worked through the night. Hermione wrote Molly a letter telling her she would be staying at the inn for the night and returning the next day.
“Let us start with your properties. We can organize them by family in one big book.”
Hermione grabbed an old piece of parchment from her bag and transfigured it into a beautiful leather bound book. She put preserving charms and an expanding charm on it so that it wouldn’t fall apart and there would always be blank pages to add more information to.
“Sounds like a plan. We can indicate which ones may need repairs and any that would be good for a permanent residency for me.”
Harry looked through his paperwork until he found the Potter properties list.
“We can start with these since they are under the Potter name.”
The two worked through the list. There were four deeds to homes and six deeds to land, four of those were attached to the houses.
“Ok, we have Godric’s Hollow, Potter Manor, the cabin in France, and the Lake House. Oh, there should be two lake houses.” Hermione noted as she read through her list.
“One was given to Remus and Sirius in dad’s will.” Harry replied as he looked for the Evan’s property list. Hermione made a note of the lake house deeded to Remus and Sirius before she transferred each property to its own page in the final book. She put the titles, locations and the description given in the deeds.
“Alrighty, you also have two plots of land. One is in the countryside of London and the other is in the States.”
“Lets put them down for examination with a chance to sell if I don’t like them.” Harry suggested as he set the Evans property list down next to Hermione.
“This list has two homes and that’s it. The Evan’s estate and a home in Spain. The details say both haven’t been lived in for years. They may need work.”
“The cabin in Spain can be sold. I don’t see myself going there ever. Lets have the Evan’s estate reviewed. I want it fixed up if need be.”
Hermione wrote furiously in the final book for the Evan’s estate and made a note on the Spain property to have it put up for sale.
“What’s next?” She asked as she neatly sorted the keep deeds from the sale and possible sale deeds.
“Next should be the Peverell list. It is the longest since there are three people I inherited from there.”
Harry dropped the stack of paper down with a thud.
“Oh Lord, that is a lot!”
“Yeah, it looks like mostly businesses and not so much homes.” Harry stated as he read the top list.
“Really? Watch you own most of Diagon Alley or something like that.” Hermione laughed.
“That would be my luck wouldn’t it.” Harry chuckled as he sat down and started reading the top list.
They found that most of what was listed was businesses that had closed or were sold after the brother’s deaths. The lists showed that Harry only owned a few businesses, Zonko’s, Florish and Blotts, the Quidditch shop, and, surprisingly, the Leaky Cauldron.
“It could be worse, I could own it all.” Harry laughed.
“Yeah, that would make you an even bigger enemy than you already are to some people.”
Harry decided that he would deed the Cauldron over to Tom.
“I think you should have the book store.” Harry said after Hermione had finished writing.
“What?! Why?”
“You would take care of it better than I ever could. Besides, who else would I pick to have it other than my bookworm of a best friend?” Harry smiled as Hermione teared up.
“Oh Harry, thank you so much!”
She dried her eyes and made a note about the deed to the book store.
“Ok, last list.”
“It’s one list that says, Half of Hogwarts Castle and lands.” Harry said.
“This year is going to be interesting, isn’t it?” Hermione asked as she finished her writing and closed the book.
“Isn’t every year?” Harry asked as he took the pile of keep deeds and set them to the side. He would take them to the bank to be put in his vault in the morning.
“The sell deeds need to go to the bank so that they can put them up.” Hermione stated as she tied them together.
“Ok, I’m taking the keep back tomorrow and can take those as well. The others I just have to sign and send to the recipient.”
Harry signed the book store one and handed it to Hermione.
“Sign it, take it to the bank. It’s all yours.” He quickly signed the deed for the Leaky Cauldron.
“I’m running this down to Tom.” Harry took off, returning a few minutes later.
“Well, I just made Tom’s year.”
“That’s great Harry. Now, lets get some sleep.”
The two friends climbed into bed and fell asleep quickly. Hermione dreaming of her new store while Harry dreamed of how he was going to tell the others about what was going on. As he drifted off he decided to do an interview before school started. That way he only had to tell the story once, but who would interview him? He decided that would be a worry for the next day and drifted off.
I know this story is a little slow, but I'm building it up. We will be seeing a typical Ron explosion soon and Hermione and Draco will meet for the first time under good conditions. We will also get to see how Dumbledore reacts to the news about Harry and what Harry plans to do now that he is free.
