Chapter Ten

Ginny and Hermione glanced at one another and smiled. Everything was prepared for the trial performers. With confidence, Ginny said, "We\'ve a full list of students who are excited about dancing."

Hermione wasn\'t as confident, but nodded all the same. "I just hope they are good," she told her friend. "We should call the first person up."

Professor McGonagall had allowed the girls to set up their trials in an old, abandoned classroom. It gave the dancers ample space to move about and the girls a door that they could open and close to allow dancers in and out of the room.

Glancing at her sheet of parchment, Ginny pointed her wand at the door. The door swung open and she called, "McMillian, Ernie."

Ernie entered the room and the door closed behind him. Both girls gave him a pleasant smile. Hermione gestured at the radio that McGonagall had allowed the girls to use. "Ernie, the rules are simple," the curly haired Gryffindor said. "When the music comes on, start dancing. Whatever the song is, just dance to it."

"You can make your own moves if you like, as well," Ginny added.

They could tell the boy was nervous, but he managed to find his courage as Hermione turned the music on. Sure, it wasn\'t a tune Ernie recognized, for it was Muggle music. But, he started dancing anyway... if what he was doing could be called dancing...

As Ginny watched, her face began to fall. It was almost painful to watch. Ernie moved as though he were trying to get something off of his trousers. Hermione pinched her lips as Ernie finished his dance.

"What did you think?" he asked hopefully.

The girls glanced at one another, but it was Hermione who spoke up. "That was... real... creative, Ernie. Thank you. We\'ll let you know our final decision after we\'ve watched everyone else."

He nodded. He strode out of the room in full confidence that he had gotten the part. What he didn\'t know was, the moment he turned his back, both girls scratched his name off their list.

And so the evening progressed. Ginny hadn\'t imagined there could be so many bad dancers in one school. They were finally able to find two suitable Hufflepuffs in the forms of one Justin Finch-Fletchly and Hannah Abbott.

Then, it was the Ravenclaws\' turn. Even more disappointments were found there. Hermione was actually startled when a second year started doing the Robot to a Celestina Warbeck song. Luna had really impressed both Ginny and Hermione, though they did find her dance rather... intriguing. They decided to pair her up with a fifth year by the name of Charles Cunningham.

Last had been the Gryffindor boys. Hermione decided against letting the girls try out because she felt confident with Ginny. Thankfully, Ginny hadn\'t disagreed with her. By the time they got to the Gryffindors, both girls were glad they only had to deal with the boys.

The first boy to try out was Dean Thomas. His performance was... well, laughable. But, the girls managed to hide their smiles and not laugh. By the time they got to the last Gryffindor, Ginny and Hermione were exhausted. There were three possible candidates for the Gryffindor position.

"I think we should owl these three and have them audition again," Hermione said, stifling a yawn.

Ginny nodded. "But, we should hold their auditions tomorrow. I\'m too tired to watch another person dance."

The older Gryffindor found she couldn\'t agree more.

Hermione was helping Anthony set up his drum set when Draco entered the Room of Requirement with Blaise and Astoria. "You\'re kidding me!" came an accusing voice.

Both the Gryffindor and the Ravenclaw looked. Charles Cunningham was pointing his wand at Astoria with a look of anger on his face. Before anyone could react, Draco sent the younger boy\'s wand flying.

"Rule Number One: There will be no fighting," the blond Slytherin said, giving the Ravenclaw a look of distaste.

Charles sputtered. "You\'re actually letting her in here?!"

Astoria smiled sweetly. "Am I really that much of a bother, Cunningham? I thought you liked me."

Hermione rolled her eyes. Draco seemed to have the situation under control, so she didn\'t interfere.

"Like I like dragon dung!" Charles protested.

"Rule Number Two: No name calling," Draco said. "And, Rule Number Three, Cunningham: Disobey these rules and you\'ll be out."

Ginny placed a hand on Charles\' shoulder. "It\'s ok, Charles. If Malfoy has Greengrass here, she\'s here for a reason," she said softly.

"And who is Malfoy to all of this? Where the bloody hell does he fit in?" Charles demanded.

Hermione snapped the cymbal in place and answered, "He\'s our lead guitar and one of our lead singers. If anyone has a problem with that, I suggest you leave now. We can find replacements."

She turned to look at the dancers. After the second auditions, Ginny and Hermione had decided to give the Gryffindor position to Seamus Finnagin. It was he who had spoken up. "Ron and Harry aren\'t going to like this."

"Ron and Harry aren\'t here," Ginny pointed out. "And, they won\'t know about this until the day of the concert. We\'ve been keeping this secret for too long for it to come out now."

"Why?" Astoria asked, looking to Draco. "Why keep it a secret, Draky? You know Pansy isn\'t going to like this. You meddling around with Mud..."

"Don\'t use that word!" Draco hissed, turning on her. "And I don\'t give a damn what Pansy likes. You know I\'ve been trying to get her off me for some time now."

The girl nodded. "Well, this certainly will work," she said. "Singing with Mud... I mean, Muggle-borns and letting Gryffindors dance in your show. I think she\'ll be quite angry with you."

He shrugged indifferently. "It\'s not her choice. It\'s mine."

"Your parents won\'t be thrilled either," Astoria pointed out.

"My father\'s in Azkaban and my mother\'s in Paris," Draco responded. "I\'m not worried."

Blaise rolled his eyes. "Can we start?" he asked. "I do have schoolwork to get done today."

Ginny clapped her hands together. "You are absolutely right, Zabini," she said, drawing astounded stares from the other dancers. "Today, we are simply going to listen to the music and observe. Before we can dance, we must know what we are dancing to. I already have a couple songs choreographed, but I want to make sure I have it right."

Draco nodded. "Well, we\'ll be playing some new songs today, Weasley, so make sure to take notes."

She nodded her agreement. "You can call me Ginny, Draco. I don\'t mind."

He smiled. "Very well, Ginny," he said, using her name for the first time. "Perhaps we should do that overall. From now on, we all use first names. Agreed?"

It was only Charles and Seamus who looked dubious, but seeing as they were the only ones, they kept their mouths shut. Draco approached the band and picked up his guitar.

Hermione smiled and picked up a bass guitar. As they began playing, she stepped up to the microphone and sang, "Know all about, yeah, about your reputation

And now it\'s bound to be a heartbreak situation..."
