EPILOGUE

It was in the early light of dawn on Christmas when Hermione felt Severus shaking her awake.

“Not again Severus, I’m tired.” She grumped. He chuckled softly; she thought he was waking her up for another round.

“No, I think thrice in one night is plenty.” He laughed, cupping her chin and turning her face towards him. She opened her eyes slowly and blinked up at him. He was adorable in the mornings with his hair sticking up all over.

“What was so important that you had to wake me at dawn?” She asked groggily.

“I know why I was always watching you now.” He whispered. “I love you, and I didn’t know it, but I was looking into my future.” Hermione leaned up and kissed him softly.

“I love you too.” She kissed him again and wrapped her arms around him.

Six months later………

“Why can’t I wear black?” Severus grouched at Molly Weasley and Harry Potter as they tried to help him get ready.

“Because it’s an afternoon wedding, and Hermione wants you to wear the gray.” Molly said, trying to pin an orchid to his jacket. His suit was similar to what he wore almost daily, high collared and slim fitting with a row of cloth covered buttons down the front. It was gray with a green satin sash that tied around the waist in honor of his house colors.

“Where is her ring?” Harry asked, looking through the piles of papers on his desk.

“I’d thank you not to rearrange the next terms lesson plans, Potter, it’s in my pocket.” He said, glancing over his shoulder at the crowd gathered below on the school grounds. There had to be three hundred people there, staff, students, friends and family. Even the Minister of Magic was there, ready to officiate. He had never seen so much white tulle and satin ribbon in his life, but it was what she wanted, so he would not say a word. Even though he would have been happy to run off to Gretna Green for a small ceremony with just the two of them.

“Oh, well then, it’s about that time!” Harry said happily, rubbing his hands together. “I am off to gather Mione and walk her down the aisle. Are you ready Sir?” Harry asked him. Severus thought about it a moment. Was he ready to marry the little hellcat who had so thoroughly disrupted his life?

“Get a move on Potter, and don’t dawdle when you walk her down the aisle.”

Hermione stood just inside the doors of Hogwarts, Harry and Ron flanking her as she waited for the music to start. It was like a fairytale the way the wedding came together. From the tall dark and handsome “prince” waiting for her at the end of the aisle, to the perfect orchids, ribbons and lace adorning every surface. Her dress was a dream. Strapless with a heavily appliquéd bodice and matching touches around the skirts with a satin sash in burgundy in honor of her house colors. She had her unruly curls pinned up with little tendrils falling to her shoulders with a simple veil that fell to her waist.

“Alright Mione, there’s our cue, are you ready?” Ron asked.

“I am, take me to him.” She smiled. The doors opened and Ron and Harry walked her slowly, but not too slowly down the aisle. Severus’s eyes widened when he saw her, so beautiful in that white dress as she made her way to him. Her friends gave her away, kissing her cheek and placing her hand in Severus’s before they walked away.

“You look beautiful.” He said, smiling down at her. She still couldn’t quite get used to seeing how his face transformed when he smiled. He tugged her bottom lip between her teeth.

“None of that now.” He said, wishing he could break her of the habit. Severus and Hermione exchanged their vows and rings there on the grounds of their beloved school, witnessed by a large portion of the wizarding world, but he saw no one but her.

Five years later….

“What is that?” Hermione asked.

“You told me to get him dressed, that’s what he wants to wear.” Severus said, staring down at their three year old son.

“You don’t let a three year old pick his own clothes Severus, he can’t wear that to the Malfoy’s Christmas Party!” Simon Aidan Snape was wearing a pair of flannel pajama pants covered in reindeer, a batman shirt, a pair of bright green Wellington boots that had little frogs printed all over, and a yellow raincoat.

“It doesn’t matter; he’ll be in the nursery with the nannies like all the other children.” Severus said as Hermione shoved their three month old daughter Natalie into his arms. Hermione reached for her wand and transfigured the horrid outfit into a little set of blue velvet overalls with a white shirt and bow tie, and a little black cape and tam.

“There, that’s perfect!” She said, smacking a kiss on Simon’s cheek. Hermione gathered the baby bag and headed for the fireplace. Severus looked down at his son, his black curls falling into his chubby little face as he looked down at his outfit pouting. Severus flicked his wand and changed the shiny black shoes back to Simon’s favorite green Wellies. Simon looked up at his dad and smiled. Severus winked at him and reached for his hand before following his wife to the Malfoy home.
