An Invitation
A/N: Yay, another chapter, done. Life is so crazy here right now that I am not getting these chapters done as fast as I'd like. Thanks for sticking with me on this one. I really appreciate all the ideas in the reviews. I love my readers and reviewers, ya'll are great! We are almost done. Couple more chapters left. Um...I guess that is it for now. On with the show. Woohoo.
Ch. 11 An Invitation
Over the following week, nothing changed, except for they were a little nicer to one another, well and there were two more shag sessions. They kept stealing glances at one another while washing the dishes, reading, and watching the telly.
Ginny noticed the subtle changes, and couldn’t help but smile and excuse herself whenever it happened. She was very happy for her long time friend. Harry couldn’t complain because it made Ginny want to spend more time with him in the attempt to give the ‘lovebirds’ their time alone.
It was during one of these ‘sappy’ days that the world shifted. For better or worse had yet to be determined.
Draco had turned the telly onto some corny trivia game show and was, highly unsuccessfully, trying to guess the answers, much to Hermione’s amusement.
They were currently rolling on the floor, battling for tickle dominance when they heard a fierce pecking on the kitchen window.
“What do you suppose?” Draco got up and offered his hand to Hermione. She looked at him skeptically and he raised his arms in surrender.
Hermione let the nearly frozen eagle owl into her flat and accepted the outstretched leg to untie the envelope. She busied herself looking for a treat for the beautiful bird while studying the envelope.
“Draco, do you know where I put the owl treats?....Draco??” she looked up and saw his eyes glued to the envelope. He had recognized the owl as his family’s and his brain was currently working out what his parents could possibly want from Hermione.
Hermione’s hand waving in front of his face brought him back to her kitchen. “Sorry, Hermione, just give it some bread, she likes bread.” He said casually while eyeing her reaction to his familiarity of the bird.
She creased her eyebrows and looked from the bird to the envelope. Understanding set in and she dropped the envelope as though it were on fire before hastily giving the owl the first bit of bread she could find.
“Why would your parents be owling ME?” she squealed. So far as she knew, Draco had not yet disclosed their relationship to the Malfoys.
He shrugged his shoulders and picked up the envelope, holding it out for Hermione to take. Neither wanted anything to do with it.
She shook her head, “No way. You open it, they are YOUR parents.” Draco sighed. “I don’t think I can. It has your name on it and if I know my parents, they will have it so only you can open it.” He waggled the envelope at her.
Her hands were clamping on the countertop and she was frozen. Draco rolled his eyes and forced the envelope into her hands. “Oh get on with it already.”
She took the envelope with shaky hands ran her finger under the seal. She removed the parchment and began to read:
**Ms. Hermione Granger:
It has come to our attention that a relationship has begun between our son, Draco, and yourself. The reasons as to why we had to discover this through the general media, instead of our own son have yet to be discussed. We would like to extend an invitation for you to join us for dinner on Saturday next at six o’clock in the evening. The dress shall be slightly formal; we look forward to truly meeting you.
Sincerely,
Mr. and Mrs. Lucius Malfoy
PostScript: You may now allow our son to review this as I am sure he is standing at your side.**
As the bottom portion of the parchment unfolded, something fell from it. Draco took the letter while Hermione reached down to retrieve the lost article. She picked it up, looked it over and groaned into her hands.
Draco, after reading the letter as well and chuckling, took the paper from Hermione. It was a photo of the two of them in New York, kissing. He groaned as well. Of course.
He had planned on introducing his parents to Hermione, but in good time. There was so much bad history there. This was surely not the way he wished to bring them together.
He took Hermione into his arms and kissed the top of her wondrous curls. “If you really don’t want to, we do not have to go.” He whispered into her ear.
She took a deep breath to steady herself. “How can we be so sure they are not just luring me there under false pretenses?” She doubted she would ever be able to trust Lucius Malfoy.
Draco ran his eyes over her worried face. He gave her a reassuring smile. “I know it will be difficult, but I will be right by your side the whole time.” Trying to lighten the mood he added, “I’ll even go to the loo with you to help you pee safely.”
He chuckled as she slapped his arm, then her eyes lit up with an evil glint. “I’ll go on one condition.” He nodded for her to continue, the look sending volts of electricity to his manhood.
She grabbed said manhood through his pants, and leaned in close to his ear. So close that her lips brushed against it when she spoke, “but you have to catch me to find out what that condition is.” She turned and ran through the flat, Draco fast on the little tease’s heels, oh this was going to be fun.
