Sweet Child of Mine
Chapter 11 - Sweet Child of Mine
As soon as they hit the ground Harry had his wand out. The room seemed vaguely familier but like the burn in his stomach Harry couldn't identify it. He surveyed the room. It was small obviously meant for a child. A young child. Harry walked towards the crib and stroked the soft blue fabric. The wood was sturdy and dark but a thick film of dust covered the whole structure.
"Harry we have to get out of here." Draco's voice was soft but urgent. Harry knew he was right but he couldn't leave. Something deep inside of him told him to stay.
"Harry, we've got to go now."
"Shut up." He lifted a hand to softly play with the airplane mobile above the bed. He stared at the small white plane. It was fluffy and worn like someone had taken teeth to it time and time again. The button eyes of smiling face were hanging on small black strings of thread. The shine they had once held was dulled by the dust and time.
"Where are we?" His eyes didn't leave the childhood toy. He heard Draco open his mouth to respond but no words followed. Instead a loud bang shattered his concentration.
"Don't you recognize it, little Haarry?" A creepily familiar voice answered. Harry ground his teeth together as he sensed Bellatrix Black move behind him. Others entered the room and he heard Draco struggle against their grasp. With out removing his eyes from the mobile Harry flicked his wand behind and then quickly pulled it toward him.
A huge pulse of magic flew through the room. Every body was flattened on the wall as Draco's flew forward. His lithe body crashed into the crib shaking the fragile structure violently but still Harry took no notice. He simply plucked the plane from the mobile and turned around, walking towards Bellatrix.
"l know this place." He said still half entranced by the toy. Bellatrix laughed a loud cruel laugh and she struggled to break the magics hold on her. The sound was dreadful. A loud screech of something much worse than fingernails. It sliced through the air and scratched a tiny sensitive nerve inside Harry's ear.
"Where am I?"
"Potter, dont..." Draco croaked. He voice was soft but clear. For a moment Harry's eyes left the toy to see Draco pushing himself off the ground, a long thin piece of wood sticking through his hand. Harry's eyes blazed. He marched towards Bellatrix holding the plane up to her face. He lifted his hand and Bellatrix's body followed suit. She gasped, her cackle momentarily paused. Harry clenched his fist his magic's grip closing around her throat.
"Where am I?" He growled. That laugh again. More strained but still capable of piercing skin. She looked at him with a sick amusement that had stained her face as she watched Draco walk in the Dark Mark Ceremony.
"It's where you should have died." Harry stepped back and she plummeted to the ground. He dropped the plane and scanned the room once more."
"It's your bedroom, Potter. This is Godric's Hollow."
Harry's head was spinning. His mind whirled with emotions. His magic was slipping and the force of the death eater's will was becoming too strong. He struggled to remain in control of his emotions but everywhere he looked he was assaulted by memories of his parents as they all rushed back at once. And then everything was gone and he was on his knees sobbing.
"Get up." A force yanked at his hair, pulling him to one side. The pain was immense, burning at every follicle. Yet his sobs could become no louder. Draco's screams barely registered as he wept for a future brighter than the bluest skies. A future he was robbed of. He had no idea what he was supposed to be looking for here and no matter where he looked the pain of childhood memories would take him on a whirlwind of emotional torture. So he did the only thing he could. He did nothing.
~
"Harry, we've got to go now." Draco tried remain calm. Not even a wizard of Harry's power could have apparated them here. It had to be a trap and given the location Draco was sure it was.
"Shut up." He watched as Harry fondled the mobile. He really has no idea where we are. He watched in wonderment at the heartbreaking confusion on the golden boy's face.
"Where are we?" Draco was sure his heart would shatter at having to deliver the news, but he knew it was neccesary. He opened his mouth to speak only to have it clamped down upon by a thin bony hand he recognized far too well. His father.
"Don't you recognize it, little Haarry?" Bellatrix. He immediately stiffened. His father chuckled in his ear.
"Still afraid of Bella, Draco? Tsk Tsk. Tis a good thing lover boy here kidnapped you in time you would have made an awful death eater." As much as a compliment as that was Draco couldn't help the rush of pain that flowed through him at his father's biting words. He narrowed his eyes. Harry hadn't stopped staring at the mobile. He hadn't even looked back and in a small fleeting moment of pain Draco realized he wasn't going to. He had to get Harry out of the trance his room had caught him in. He closed his eyes and braced himself for what would happen next.
With a loud scream His father tore his hand away from Dracos mouth, now dripping with copper tone blood. Goyle's father was there faster than Draco could have expected and pushed Draco back against the wall, his wand in front of his face.
"What the...?" Draco saw the pulse before it hit. He flung his hand in front of his face and let go a shriek as Goyle's wand was plunged into his hand as Goyle himself flew towards the wall behind them. He flew through the air with only a brief realization that he was being pulled towards Harry. Sooner than he could act his body hit the crib. The force of the rail on his stomach pushed up the remainder of the alcohol in his belly. The burning of half digested fire whiskey ripped through his throat. The fragile structure rumbled as Draco collapsed to the ground. He laid bleeding and holding back vomit on the ground as Harry finally spoke.
"I know this place." He leaned over Draco's body and Draco smiled ready to be saved by his savior. But no such helping hand came instead the presence left and he heard Harry's footsteps walk cautiously towards the other side of the room. Wincing in pain Draco clenched his eyes shut and pushed off the ground onto his elbows. As he looked up searching for the safe place Harry's appearance alway created for him he instead met Bellatrix's eyes. They held the greatest and most twisted pleasure and understanding Draco had ever beheld. Out of her large cracked lips poured a stream of laughs that rushed toward Draco threatening to drown him.
"Where am I?!" Harry growled. He held whatever he had taken next to his face. His magic crackled around him but it was unlike the magic from their broom ride. This was magic that could kill. It reached out raping every orifice of the body and plunging into your deepest thoughts. It thirsted for the kill and lusted for the torture preceding it. A pit formed in Draco's stomach. A pit much like the one he was given to associating with the Dark Lord. His heart beat violently as he realized the potential his love possessed. Bring him back. A small voice entered his thoughts.
Bring him back.
"Potter... Don't." His voice was cracking even as he tried to be strong but as Harry looked back, his eyes black with magic and his skin pale and veined with assertion of magical power, Draco could not hold the gaze. He looked back at the ground in defeat. Bellatrix cackled again. Tears sparkled on the ground, as Draco realized he was going to die and with him Harry.
"Where am I?" He growled again. Draco clenched his eyes shut as he heard Bellatrix kick and and scream the cackle through the pain of a magical death.
"It's where you should have died." her voice was small and broken but slick with hate. A large thump signaled the end of Harry's magical rein in the room. And and even large thumping in Draco's chest signaled his adrenal glands.
"It's your bedroom, Potter. This is Godric's Hollow." His father spoke as he broke the chains of magical bondage. Draco pushed himself to his knees. He stayed motionless waiting for the moment he should act. With his undamaged hand he slipped his wand up his sleeve. He watched from the corner of his eye as Amycus Carrow yelled something at Harry then pulled his hair effectively throwing him on the ground. Draco tensed waiting for his turn. Sure enough Carrow's wife followed her husband's example and gripped Draco's hair throwing him on his back. Draco pushed into the throw rolling several feet and landing on his back. Pulling his wand from his sleeve Draco looked up into Carrow's eyes and spoke.
"Avada Kedavra." The flash of green gave Draco the time he needed to push onto his feet and shout the same curse at Amycus Carrow. Draco ran towards Harry before a small light caught his eyes. The lamp, he thought. He lunged for the horcrux grabbing it off the table and sliding back to Harry casting a Sectumsempra at his father as he rushed to get ahold of Harry.
Draco immobilized Goyle quickly and looked down at his Father, who lay bleeding on the ground next to them.
"Your right, I would have made a horrible death eater." And with a crack they both disappeared into the night.
