Chapter 10
Mutant VS. Magic
Chapter 10
Hermione still couldn’t believe that she and Logan were engaged. They had agreed to get married at the mansion. The other X-men and Hermione’s friends were thrilled for them. Rogue and Kitty were going to be her bridesmaids and Storm would be her maid of honor. She had written to Ginny asking her to be the third bridesmaid and was still waiting to hear back from her. She sighed as she snuggled back into Logan’s arms and fell asleep.
Out in the hall, Draco was heading for the kitchen. He had been having a difficult time sleeping lately and decided to go fix him a cup of hot chocolate. He froze when he heard the footsteps behind him. With no where to hide, he began to panic.
Scott rubbed the back of his neck as he rounded the corner. As he walked down the hall, he could have sworn he felt a rush of cold air, but that was strange. Especially since there were no windows in that hall.
“Bloody hell!”
“Who’s there? Show yourself!” Scott demanded as he spun around.
He found Draco standing in a pair of pajama pants, white as a sheet and trembling. “You…I…Um…” Draco stuttered.
“Where did you come from?” Scott asked.
“I…I was standing here. I heard your footsteps and started panicking. One second I was here, the next I was here, but not solid. You…you walked…right through me,” Draco explained.
“You went invisible?” Scott questioned. Draco nodded.
Scott grabbed Draco’s hand and the two headed for Hermione and Logan’s bedroom.

“Well, you’re right Scott. Draco, you are in fact a mutant and have the ability to go completely invisible. When you go invisible you are no longer solid. That’s how Scott was able to walk right through you,” Storm reported.
“Why did it take so long for his mutation to show up?” Severus asked.
“That’s because he is a pureblood wizard. Those genes simply slowed down the mutant genes. But, now that they have shown themselves, this can be an added advantage to us,” Hermione answered.
“Looks like you’re one of us kid,” Logan smiled.

It had been two weeks since Draco had discovered that he was a mutant. He and Kitty had come up with a nickname for him. It was the Veil. Which suited him perfectly. He quickly began training and caught on very fast.
“Hermione, I think you need to come see this,” Scott said as he poked his head in her and Logan’s room.
Hermione jumped to her feet and followed him. They entered the lower levels of the mansion where the others were already waiting.
“What’s going on?” Hermione asked.
“Magneto is getting ready to launch an attack against Worthington Labs. You saw his announcement this morning. We have come up with a plan,” Storm answered.
“I’m listening,” Hermione said.

Jean stood off to the side watching as the Death Eaters and mutants began getting ready to move out. Ever since Hermione had come to see them two weeks ago, she began paying closer attention to Voldemort. Even though she saw nothing to indicate he was double crossing them, she couldn’t shake the ominous feeling she felt when she was around them.
“Something wrong my dear?” Eric asked as he walked up beside her.
“No, just mentally preparing,” Jean answered.
“Soon, this will all be over. Then, we can live our lives as nature intended for us to live,” he smiled.
“Yes. It is our time now,” she nodded in agreement.
“What do you think of that Weasley boy?” he questioned.
“I think he is foolish. Hermione and Logan are mates. He will find his end at either her hands or his,” she replied.
“Yes. Even Charles knew that the day they met, was the day that those two would be forever bound to one another. Too bad they have chosen not to join us,” he sighed.
Jean remained silent. She and Eric stood overlooking the camp, watching it buzzing with activity. In less than hour, they would be making their way to Worthington Labs. To make their final stand.

Hermione zipped up her suit. She took a deep breath and left the dressing room. She found Logan leaning against the wall waiting for her. He pushed himself off the wall and walked to her, pulling her into his arms.
“You alright?” he asked.
“No, but I’ll do what I have to do Logan. I just wish there was another way,” she sighed as she held him tightly.
“So do I. I love you Hermione and I will marry you,” he said.
“I love you too Logan. You bet your ass you’re going to marry me,” she smirked.
Logan grinned roguishly as he pressed his lips to hers in a fierce kiss. They came apart a few moments later and went to join the others. They found Rogue, Bobby, Tin Man, Kitty, Draco, Ororo, Severus, Harry, Hank, Warren, and Scott ready.
“This is it. If anyone wants to turn back, now is the time,” Scott stated.
“We’re not turning back. This is our fight. We stand together. United,” Harry replied determinedly.
As one, the thirteen turned and headed for the jet. Scott and Ororo took the controls while everyone else strapped themselves into their seats. The jet took off, everyone on board knowing this was the final stand.
