Chapter 11: Stupefy
Draco's Point of View
"Jesus Christ, Blaise!" I say harshly.
He looks at me sheepishly. "What?"
"Do you have to be so rude? I just told you what she went through."
"Oh, come on, Draco. I'm sorry but I find that very hard to believe."
I sigh, "Why? Why is it so hard to believe?"
"Draco, she's a Mud—Muggle-born," he says, like that should explain it all.
"So what? Muggle-borns don't get raped then?" I snap harshly.
"I don't know. It just seems... off. It's really just odd. Potter doesn't need to rape people, Draco. He's famous."
"I saw it!" I yell.
"You saw her having sex with them," Blaise corrects.
"Well, that's what I thought I saw-"
"Until she contaminated it for you. Maybe she's just embarrassed that you saw her, so she just made it up," Blaise says with a half smile and a shrug.
"She wouldn't do that," I say, getting angrier by the second.
"How do you know?"
"I just do."
"You're putting an awful lot of trust into someone that you hated with a passion until last week."
I sigh heavily. "I know, Blaise. I just feel like I can really trust her. This isn't a lie!"
"It could be."
"It's not."
"Does this have anything to do with your mother?" he asks slyly
I look at him angrily, but ignore his comment.
"Use Legilimency on me." I say to him suddenly, sick of his shit.
"What? No."
"Just do it! You can see my memories of what I saw, and then you can see hers. After you see them both they fit together."
"If you're sure…"
"Of course I'm sure," I say, standing up and facing him, the table in between us. He stands up and we make eye contact. Blaise lifts his wand.
"Legilimens," he says.
I walk around the corner of the castle and the scene before me leaves me paralysed… Granger is taking it in both ends from Potter and Weasley, but she's looking down. Her posture is limp, and her arms are nowhere in sight. I turn and walk away. Everything changes and now Potter is coming towards me with a wand, an insane look on his face. "Incarcerous", my arms are bound tightly behind my back. I'm being thrust into harshly against the wall. Now I'm above the scene and Weasley is walking forwards. He frees himself and pushes into me roughly, I see myself in the distance watching, and I need myself to help...
Our eyes break contact, and we are both breathing hard. Blaise's eyes lift towards mine again.
"What the fuck, man?"
"I know. And when I saw it, I didn't actually realize what was happening. Blaise," I say, and I can feel my voice getting heavy with emotion, "I made fun of her."
He shakes his head, "There is no way you would have known."
"I know, but I should have realised. You know what happens to my mum. I should have noticed."
"Well, nothing would have associated the two together." He says.
"Her attitude said it all. I should have realised," I say, and to my horror my voice breaks.
Blaise looks at me, and his eyes soften.
"What I showed you wasn't the first time it happened to her…" I say, desperate to change the subject from my lack of attention.
Blaise’s eyes snap up to mine quickly. "It wasn't?"
"No."
"So it happened more than once?"
"Yes."
"When?"
Our eyes meet.
"Did you ever ask her about that day when we were all up here?" Blaise asks, instead of waiting for my answer.
"No. But it happened that night. I went down there, and I saw her book. The ground was all scuffed up with blood everywhere. I didn't think anything like this had happened," My voice is getting ragged with emotion, but I feel like I need to explain myself, "I just thought that she likes it rough, you know? I never...I didn't..."
Blaise reaches out and puts a hand on my shoulder. "Calm down."
"I'm trying. I'm either a snivelling girl, or much too angry to function."
Blaise smiles and we're silent for a few minutes.
"I have some questions for her, call her back down here," he demands suddenly.
I look at him, "You better be fucking nice, Blaise."
"I will be," he says, nodding his head.
I walk to the bottom of her staircase. "Granger!" I yell. She doesn't answer. "Granger!!!"
"What?" She snaps.
"Get your fine arse down here!"
"Why?"
"Just come here!" I yell and turn back to the couch.
Blaise is giving me an odd look. "What?"
"You still call her Granger." He points out.
"Yep, I can't really imagine calling her anything else. She still calls me Malfoy, so we're even."
Blaise shakes his head.
Hermione comes back downstairs, and leaves her staircase door wide open. She sits back on the couch, throwing her throw blanket over her lap.
"What?" She asks after dramatically fixing the blanket.
"I have a few questions for you," Blaise says calmly.
Hermione just raises her eyebrows and her hands, saying 'what'.
"That day that we were all in the Common Room, a bunch of us Slytherins. Why did you come back crying and bleeding?"
Hermione purses her lips for a moment, and I can tell that she is struggling with the answer.
"Well," She says slowly, "Harry, er, Potter," she corrects herself after looking at me. "He found out that I had sex with Seamus," she says with a smile on her face, and a little giggle, "And he wasn't very happy. He took it upon himself to let me know that 'I belong to him.' " She says the last four words in a deep voice, and I'm assuming it's supposed to be Potter’s. I'm actually a bit disturbed at the way she is re-telling it. Between the smiles and the odd little giggles, the way she imitates Potters voice, and can find humour in the whole thing just rubs me the wrong way.
"You belong to him?" Blaise asks. "Why would he say that?"
"I have no idea. I told Malfoy that he's always been obsessed with me."
"So he what? Hit you?"
"Yep," she says casually. Her attitude is throwing me off.
"Is that all?"
"Pretty much," she says with a shrug.
"What does that mean?"
"Well, he hit me, shook me for a few minutes and screamed into my face. So, pretty much."
Blaise nods, I look between the two.
"And that night was the first time," I say.
"Yeah," she answers casually again, like she doesn't really care.
"Was it both of them the first time too?" Blaise asks.
Hermione shakes her head, and I grab her hand and give it a reassuring squeeze.
"Who was it?"
"Just Harry," she says.
I make a sound low in my throat.
"So that's why you beat him up Draco?"
"Well that, and I hate him," I say, shrugging.
"You can't tell anyone," Hermione says steadily, barely moving.
"Granger, you've got to tell a Professor."
She shakes her head, "No."
"Why not?"
"Because," She answers harshly. I look and Blaise and catch his eye, shaking my head.
"Fine. But what if he goes and does it to someone else."
I clench my jaw, I hadn't really thought of that. I look at Granger and can tell that she hadn't either, because her jaw is slightly slack.
"I don't think he will," She says after a moment.
"Why not?" Blaise and I say together.
"Because he isn't finished with me yet," she says.
My eyebrows furrow, and I look to Blaise. "Granger, He's not going to touch you again," I say forcefully.
She nods. "He is. I can tell."
"How can you tell? You haven't even seen him."
She nods again. "When you were fighting him, and he looked over at me."
"Yeah I saw, he was begging for your help, Granger."
"No, he wasn't," she says slowly. She shuts her eyes and I know she is remembering what she saw up there.
"He was saying 'this isn't over'. He was mad, Malfoy. When he gets mad, he does drastic things." She takes a deep breath, "And now he's even angrier, because I told. He's not finished with me, not even close."
I look at Blaise and we silently agree on how creepy this entire situation is. How could she possibly know that? Just from the look on his face? I know people can read looks and everything, but this goes a bit beyond that. I subconsciously look around the Common Room.
"Granger, I'm not going to let him hurt you."
"Nor am I," Blaise says and I look at him in appreciation.
She gives a little laugh that again rubs me wrong. "I thank you guys, I really do, but you're not even in all of my classes. You can't watch out for me everywhere you go."
I swear at this comment, because I know it's true.
"We could tell-"
"No," Hermione says sharply, cutting of Blaise's words.
"You didn't let me finish. We could tell a few of the other Slytherins. They do anything Draco or I say… they would help."
I start to nod and squeeze Granger’s hand again, but she's angry now.
"No," She says, "I already told you guys, no. No one else is going to know about this but us."
"Well he's not going to touch you in classes," I point out.
Blaise nods, "That's true. He'd have to be seriously insane to do that."
I can tell Granger is thinking about this. "No, I suppose not."
Nobody says anything for a few minutes. I hear an odd rustling behind me that has nothing to do with the three of us. I look around again quickly, and decide that I want Blaise to leave.
"Blaise," I say, holding out my hand.
He sighs and grasps onto it. I tap my wand over our hands and they are linked with magic for a moment.
"Oh yea, and about our relationship," I say, gesturing between Granger and myself when Blaise looks up after the magic is finished, "Just keep it quiet for now, okay?"
Blaise nods, "Yeah, sure." He stands from his seat. "Well I'm going to have to get back to my Common Room quickly. It's way past curfew now."
"Zabini," I hear Hermione squeak out from beside me. He stops and looks at her. "Thanks."
He nods. "I wish I had an Invisibility cloak," Zabini says, walking towards the Portrait Hole, but facing me and Granger. My mind suddenly has an image of Potter. Potter's got an Invisibility Cloak! I look at Blaise, and he nods slowly towards his right. Granger makes a sudden movement like she wants to lunge to the floor and hide. I whip out my wand and take a guess at where he is.
"Stupefy" I yell, and a grin graces my features as I hear a loud thump.
