Rocking The Vote
Aurthor's Notes: This chapter features Nickelback’s If Everyone Cared. I hate repeating songs but it was the only one I found that seemed to fit this chapter. I’ll have new material ready for the next show, promise.
Saturday morning arrives and they all meet for breakfast and to finalize the changes to their wardrobe. Given that this is an important political function Hunter agreed to the outfits they wore during last years Easter Ball. After a quick checklist to make sure they had everything they head to Dumbledore's office and find the Headmaster waiting for them.
They arrive at Sirius' house as planned and begin to set up in the kitchen so they can go over the speeches for the evening. As everyone arrives Hunter, Neville and Cho go over the speeches with them making sure they understand the message and are comfortable with what they're being asked to say.
Arthur likes his speech so much that he asks them to write all his speeches for the rest of the campaign. Remus laughs and reminds him that they already are. By the time they leave for the location of the event everyone has been drilled and redrilled on their roles for the evening that Hunter, Charlie and Mrs. Weasley are sure they can actually pull this off.
As they arrive at the site for the fund raiser Hunter can't help but smile as he watches Angelina and Alicia setting up the tables for the silent auction while the twins and Lee make the final adjustments to the stage. "Looks good everyone." Hunter says as he walks over to the stage. He and the band set up their instruments and go through a quick sound check before he calls Charlie over to check the guest list and seating arrangements.
"I left the catering and seating arrangements to Mum," Charlie admits. "But so far we've got most of the shop owners in Diagon Alley along with several Aurors and a few Ministry officials showing up. There are several prominent and some not so prominent but still respected pure-blood families as well as a few reporters and business owners."
Hunter looks over the list and notices the notes beside each name. "Looks pretty good," he comments. "With this kind of turn out on such short notice we've managed to get off to a good start. The problem's going to be pulling this one off and getting the next one arranged late enough to were we can find more supporters and contributors but still close enough that we don't lose whatever momentum we build up here."
"I was thinking about having the next one just before Christmas." Charlie suggested. "Everyone should be in a generous and giving mood and it is not so far away that they forget about the message we're sending tonight."
"That'll be perfect. "Hunter agrees. "That will also give us time to work out the details of the plans for werewolf regulation reform. If we can get everything ready by then Arthur can introduce the plan in time to have it fresh on everyone's minds come the New Year."
As the fund raiser got into full swing Hunter couldn't have been prouder of his friends. Everything was going perfectly and every one of their guests was firmly behind Arthur and his bid for the Minister of Magic job. As the speakers took their turns at the microphone they all stuck to the speeches that Neville and Cho had worked so hard to perfect.
Harry used his much hated fame to the full advantage of his bestmate's father and through his full support and trust behind the man he felt was the best choice for the job. Dumbledore praised Arthur for his generous and caring heart. He also spoke of the gentle strength of a loving father and devoted husband and friend who only wished to see those he loved and the country he loved have a safe and secured future.
Shacklebolt spoke of the current hardships facing the Aurors in their fight not only to maintain public safety but also in capturing known Death Eaters and locating and defeating Voldermort. The main problems he pointed out were a lack of funds, manpower and support from the Ministry. He voiced his support of Arthur as the man that would see that the Ministry' funds got to the departments that needed it the most as well as seeing that the hunting and capturing of Voldermort and his Death Eaters was made the Ministry's top concern.
Madame Bones delivered a stirring speech reminding the guests of the hardships and loses faced by many during the first war and the struggles facing them in the current war. She reminded them of what it was like not so long ago when one could look at the Minister and feel pride and security for the office he represented and how they could have those things again if they would but share the same faith in Arthur that she and the other speakers had in him.
When Arthur finally took the stage he out-lined his objectives and goals for the campaign as well as his beliefs and feelings as to what the priorities of the office should be. He reminded them of what the responsibilities of the Minister of Magic were supposed to be and what they have become in recent years. Of how even when told of Lord Voldermort's return the Minister refused to move until it was too late because he feared causing a panic. He pointed out how the current Ministry is so concerned about protecting their public image that they have forgotten to protect the public.
By the time the band took the stage the adults in the audience were as fired up as the students they usually played for. Hunter stepped up to the microphone before turning to face his band. He could see the looks of pride and accomplishment on their faces and knew that they felt the same way he did. They were doing something important and making a real difference in the war. Turning back to the crowd he finally spoke up.
"Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen," he began. "I'm sure that most of you have heard from your sons and daughters or nieces and nephews about us. For those of you that haven't we are Lion's Pride and we're here to show our support for the man we believe to be the best choice for Minister of Magic."
From underneath the trees, we watch the sky. Confusing stars for satellites. I never dreamed that you’d be mine. But here we are, we’re here tonight. Singing Amen, I’m alive. Singing Amen, I’m alive.
They had decided to start with this song to help remind the adults not only about those that have already died in both wars but also as a beckon of hope that they could actually make it through and win this war.
If everyone cared and nobody cried. If everyone loved and nobody lied. If everyone shared and swallowed their pride. We’d see the day when nobody died. And I’m singing, Amen I, I’m alive. Amen I, I’m alive.
As the song progressed Hunter could see the couples dancing move just a little closer to each other and hold on just a little tighter.
And in the air the fireflies, our only light in paradise. We’ll show the world they were wrong
And teach them all to sing along. Singing Amen I’m alive. Singing Amen I’m alive. If everyone cared and nobody cried. If everyone loved and nobody lied. If everyone shared and swallowed their pride. We’d see the day when nobody died. If everyone cared and nobody cried. If everyone loved and nobody lied. If everyone shared and swallowed their pride. We’d see the day when nobody died.
Hunter could see the faces of several people who weren't dancing to the song and could tell the emotions they were feeling as they remembered loved ones they lost and their own personal dreams for the future.
And as we lie beneath the stars, we realize how small we are. If they could love like you and me, imagine what the world could be. If everyone cared and nobody cried. If everyone loved and nobody lied. If everyone shared and swallowed their pride. We’d see the day when nobody died. We’d see the day; we’d see the day when nobody died. We’d see the day; we’d see the day when nobody died. We’d see the day when nobody died.
They played a few more songs before finally calling it a night and as they returned to the house Hunter knew that they still had a long way to go before they could claim victory. But we're off to one hell of a start. He thought to himself.
