Chapter 11: Waiting for your call I 'm sick

Hermione was tossing and turning in her bed. She couldn’t stop thinking about her lover. Each time she turned to look at Seena’s bed and wished the girl was here, sleeping peacefully, or sharing her thoughts with her like they used to. But all she could see was an empty bed, lightened by the moon. She was worried about Harry too.

‘I hope they’re fine...they’re with Dumbledore after all...’ she checked the watch her parents had offered her for Christmas. ‘It’s dawn yet...’ Hermione decided that she couldn’t get any sleep anyway, so she made her way down to Gryffindor’s common room. She was not surprised to see Ron sitting by the fireplace. The redhead boy turned her head to her friend and tried a smile, but it wasn’t really convincing.

“Hey...”

“Hi Ron...you couldn’t sleep either, uh?” The boy shook her head. “ They’ll be alright.”

“You know...” Ron paused. “Part of me is sick with worry about my two friends, I mean, I care about them, you know that. But there’s this other part that makes me bitter, because in the end, I realize that we’re just sidekicks. We are the useless and friendly outsiders. Harry and Seena are the heroes of the story.”

Hermione sat beside him and put her hand on Ron’s shoulder.

“Not being on the battlefield doesn’t mean we’re not involved in the fight. We are their support. We help them being the heroes like you say. I know it sounds unfair to you because they have powers, they are admired. But they risk their lives for us and in the end, they’d be alone without us. Both Harry and Seena have to deal with this burden. Their capacities allow them to do tremendous things, but isolate them from the world.”

Ron nodded, staring at the flames.

“I don’t want to lose them...”

“We won’t lose them. Heroes never die right?”

The atmosphere in the Great Hall was tensed that evening. Nobody had heard of Dumbledore, Harry or Seena in the last two days. Although it was usual for the Headmaster to leave Hogwarts a few days, he had never failed giving news to the teachers. For the fifth time in 48 hours, Hermione went to Professor McGonagall’s office, after dinner. She knocked on the door and immediately received an answer.

“Come in Miss Granger.” The old lady sighed.

“Excuse me Professor, is there-”

“I’m sorry, nothing yet. Hagrid contacted the Aurors, but they don’t know where they are. Alastor Moody promised to get in touch with us if there is any news.” McGonagall explained. Hermione could hear from her tone that the professor was anxious too.
“Isn’t there some way to find them with magic?”

“We’ve tried, Miss Granger, but you know perfectly well that when our Headmaster doesn’t want to be found, it is impossible to find him.”

“Did you try with Harry and Seena?” Hermione asked, hopeful.

“Professor Dumbledore’s spell works for them too. I’m afraid, dear, there’s absolutely nothing we can do besides waiting.” McGonagall looked back at her paperwork and went back to her labor.

“Alright, Professor...I’m sorry if I bothered you.” Hermione sniffed and left the office to her bedroom. When she climbed the stairs, she heard noises in the room.

“Seena!” She exclaimed and rushed to the door. “Lumos!” She chanted and a ray of blinding light emerged from her wand. But there was no one in the bedroom. The window was closed, everything was in order. She sat on the bed and sighed.

“It was just an illusion I guess..” she laid her head on the pillow and suddenly she heard something knocking at the window. She ran to open it.

“Oh my God! What now?” She said angrily. Indeed, what looked like and Howler had entered the room and was flying around Hermione. The young girl caught it and studied the envelope. It wasn’t as red as a Howler. Hermione frowned and opened it.

“Hi Hermione. Dumbledore’s order was not to contact anyone, but you know me, I never take orders from anyone.” Seena’s voice appeared from the envelope. Hermione heard her lover’s laugh. “Anyway, we’re all fine, I guess that’s what you wanted to hear. Our mission is getting slightly complicated, but it’s okay. I don’t know yet how long it’s gonna take exactly... I miss you a lot, I want to see you, but I only have five minutes off to record this message. Remember that I love you, okay? I can’t stop thinking about you. Don’t worry too much okay?” suddenly, Hermione could hear a terrifying scream in the distance. “Shit!” Seena shouted and the message ended. To Hermione’s relief, the mail didn’t explode like a Howler. The envelope just closed itself and fell in Hermione’s hands. The young girl collapsed on the floor and began to cry. When Ginny Weasley entered her room, Hermione was cuddled up in a ball and sobbing.

“What’s wrong? I’ve been looking for you!” Ginny knelt beside her friend and patted her back.

“It’s Seena...”

“What happened?” Ginny urged her.

“I dunno, she sent me this message and she says she’s fine, but there’s this scaring scream and I don’t want her to die!” Hermione burst into tears.

“Look, let’s go see McGonagall again, she’ll know what to do...”

Hermione suddenly froze.

“No we can’t.”

“Why?” Ginny frowned.

“Because in the message, Seena tells me ...stuff.” If the girl’s face wasn’t already swollen and red, Ginny would have thought she was blushing.
“What kind of stuff?”

“The ‘I love you’ kind...” Ginny’s mouth formed a ‘oh’ with surprise. She sat next to Hermione and thought about it.

“You know...I think McGonagall isn’t gonna judge you or anything about that. I mean...that’s not gonna affect your life in Hogwarts, she’ll keep it secret until you come out.”

“You think?” Hermione sniffed and wiped away her tears.

“Yeah, she’s a good woman.” Ginny stroke the girl’s back and helped her standing up. “Come on, let’s go.”
