Chapter 11
Confused signals
Hermione watched as the Hogwarts Express got closer and closer to the lights, to Hogwarts. She felt her stomach clench in nervousness, it would be the first time she would see Harry and Ron after the Christmas holiday, as they had both stayed in Hogwarts for the Christmas holiday, due to Ron’s parents having to go away on unexpected business. Hermione closed her eyes and thought about the last 2 weeks of Christmas holiday which, for her, had went way too fast. For Hermione she had wanted to spend more time with her family, with her cousin’s and...
With Draco.
At her parents, there was no divide between them like there was at Hogwarts. There was no Harry and no Ron, no Slytherin, no pure blood and mudblood divide, just them. Hermione had just wanted to spend a little more time with him, was that too much to ask?
She just wanted to spend more time just being with him, getting to know him more, getting to know the real Draco Malfoy, not the obnoxious, self absorbed Slytherin Prince she had know for the past 6 years. She thought back to Christmas day where she had left baby Mia in the hands of Draco. He had been completely terrified of Mia, his eyes wide as he searched around for help, his eyes silently begging Hermione to help him with the child in his hands. Hermione had shaken her head at him and then proceeded to carry on playing with the kids who were currently attacking her with snowballs.
Just thinking about that memory brought warm and tingly feelings inside of Hermione’s body. Little by little, piece by piece, she could slowly see Malfoy change, change from a child into a man. A man who she was becoming more and more attracted to each day. Just spending time with him over the Christmas holidays had brought them closer and closer to one another, but now they were going back to school Hermione couldn’t help but feel that things would go back to the way they were. The divide between her and Draco, all the things they had shared over the past two weeks, the closeness….
The happiness?
Hermione paused as she thought of their relationship at the moment; could she really call it a relationship? A relationship would mean that they were now official boyfriend and girlfriend, wouldn’t it? But if Hermione’s memory served her right, he hadn’t mentioned anything about being boyfriend and girlfriend let alone a couple. Did a couple of kisses, really good kisses mind you, mean that they were now officially a couple?
She was pulled out of her thoughts when a deep voice interrupted her.
“You’re thinking too hard. Stop it.” Draco said before slipping into the seat next to her. Hermione sighed in content as Draco slipped an arm around her and pulled her close to his chest, laying her head on his shoulder she snuggled into the warmth he offered her.
“What were you thinking about?” He questioned her; Hermione sighed and closed her eyes not wanting to think about the future, just wanting to stay in the present with him.
“Hermione?” Draco gently pushed, Hermione sighed knowing that he wouldn’t let this subject go.
“It’s just about..”
“Yes?”
“When we get back, what’s going to happen?” Hermione asked, looking up into his beautiful eyes. Draco took a deep breath and let his fingers brush through her curls, gently he pushed a stray hair and tucked it behind her ear, not really know how to answer that question.
“I don’t know,” He answered honestly; Draco let his hands drift to hers and entwined their fingers together.
“All I know is that I want to be with you, and I don’t give a damn about what anybody else thinks.” Draco answered, her heard her give a sigh of relief.
“Good,” Hermione murmured before pressing a kiss to his neck before snuggling into his embrace.
“Because I don’t know what I would have done if you had said you wanted to end it.” She answered back, her voice soft and light as she leaned into his warmth. Smiling he pulled her tighter to him, loving the feel of her body pressed against his.
“Come on, the train’s about to stop, we better get ready.” He whispered to her before placed a loving kiss on her forehead before helping her up and out of the carriage.

Hermione took a deep breath as she headed towards the Gryffindor Tower to talk to Harry and Ron. She felt her stomach clench as she headed up to the portrait, taking a deep breath she said the password and proceeded into the Gryffindor common room, wiping her sweaty palms on her grey mini skirt she headed in, looking around for Harry and Ron. Looking to the left she instantly spotted them, they were sitting on the leather seats opposite each other currently playing an intense game of Wizard chess.
Hermione’s mind drifted back to when Draco had tried to explain the rules of Wizard’s chess to both her father and her Uncle Jim, with both of them, scratching their heads as they tried to get their heads around the rules of Wizards chess. All three of them had been up till 2am on Boxing Day trying to get better at the game but both, her father and Uncle failing miserably when Draco won both games against each senior. She had laughed at how determined her father was to beat her uncle at one game, they had finally given up when their eyes could no longer stay open, calling it a night and then slipping into bed as quietly as they could so they didn’t wake their wives.
Hermione blinked and carried on watching the pair, slowly she came up behind Harry.
“Boo!”
“Arrggg!” Harry screamed, jumping out of his seat in pure fright, clutching his chest where his pounding heart was he glared at Hermione.
“Bloody hell Hermione, did you want to give me a heart attack or something?” He said shaking his head before pulling her in to his embrace.
“It’s good to see you ‘Mione.” Harry said before placing a kiss on her forehead. As they pulled away, Ron pulled her into his arms.
“God, I missed you.” He mumbled before pulling away and placing a kiss on her lips. Hermione pulled back the instant Ron’s lips touched hers. Eye’s wide, she just stared at him.
“What the hell was that?” She whispered harshly, not wanting to create a scene.
“What?” He asked, his cheeks getting redder and redder by the second.
“That… that!” Hermione said pointing to her lips, then staring furiously at him.
“Umm…” He said looking away. Hermione just placed her head in her hands and shook her head; she didn’t want to deal with this right now.
“I’m going to see you tomorrow, and when I do I want an explanation.” She said before promptly walking out of the Gryffindor common room and heading back to the Heads common room where Draco was anxiously waiting for her. Her mind whirled with the events that had just transpired just moments ago.
What was Ron’s problem?
Why couldn’t he have shown this interest in her earlier? But even if he did, would she have done anything about it? No her mind screamed, because she just didn’t feel that way towards Ron. She thought of Ron just like Harry, a brother.
Nothing more and nothing less.
It was that simple. She just didn’t have any romantic feelings towards him, and it was painfully obvious that he did, otherwise he wouldn’t have kissed her on the lips before. Hermione took a deep breath attempting to calm herself down before she saw Draco because she knew if he saw her like this he would go half cocked straight down to the Gryffindor tower to have it out with Ron. And at the moment all she really wanted to do was curl up in bed, with Draco beside her, and fall into a peaceful slum.
Climbing the last stone stair case leading to the Head dorms, Hermione took a deep breath, said the password and headed into the Head common room. A smile was brought to her face as she saw Draco lying on the black leather sofa fast asleep, the soft light of the fire playing over his beautiful face. Attentively walking towards him she slowly sat down on the edge and took a moment to look at his beautiful face, brushing a blond lock of hair out of his face she smiled down at him. He looked like an angle, his face calm and serene, his body relaxed as he slept peacefully.
“Hey.” He whispered, his eyes still closed, Hermione smiled and brushed a hand over his cheek.
“Hey.” She whispered back, slowly his eye lids opened to reveal swirling silver orbs.
“You were quick,” He said before pushing his body so it was up right, pulling her into his arms.
“Yeah, I know. The boys were in an intense game of wizard’s chess, so I said I would see them tomorrow.” Hermione gave a content sigh as she leaned her head exhaustedly on his shoulder for comfort. Sensing she was tired Draco got up and helped her up to her feet.
“Come on lets get you to bed, your shattered,” He announced before helping her up the stairs to her room but Hermione refused, just pulling him closer and burying herself in the warmth and comfort he offered.
“Hermione?” Draco asked as they stood there at the foot of the stair case with Hermione clinging to him, refusing to move.
“No.” Hermione mumbled and dug her head deeper into his chest; sighing Draco hooked his arms around the back of her knees and carried her up the stairs.
“God Hermione, you eat as much as you do and you’re still light as a feather.” He said chuckling as he proceeded to make his way up the stairs as she had looped both her arms around his neck and tucked her head into his shoulder, resting peacefully. Draco got to her room and kicked open the door and strode towards her big four poster bed. As he leaned down to deposit her on top of the red and gold silk duvet, Hermione locked her arms around his neck and refused to let go. He resisted briefly before letting her tug him beside her. Immediately, she curled up on her side with her head pillowed on his chest and her arm draped over him.
“Comfy?” He asked
“Mmmm.”
She heard the chuckle rumble deep inside his chest before he made any actual noise. It comforted her. Just having him there comforted her. When she had saw him when she had come back from visiting Ron and Harry, all the tension with the Ron situation seemed to disappear. Now, lying beside him, listening to his heart beat in a steady rhythm, feeling his chest rise and fall with his breath, she felt at peace. With all the tension and stress of saying goodbye to her parents, then the long train journey back to Hogwarts and then the situation with Ron she just hadn’t expected to feel at peace after the day she had just had.
He made such a comfortable pillow she could feel herself begin drifting off to sleep. It made no sense of her cloudy mind to struggle, so she turned to burrow in closer and let exhaustion take her.
“Let go Hermione,” He whispered before running his fingers through her soft, curly hair.
“I’ll take care of you,” She heard before unconsciousness claim her.
“Just sleep.” Remarkably, she did.
