Hermione tried to scream, tried to yell for help, but whenever she opened her mouth and tried, no sound came. She tried to struggle against the ropes that bound her wrists, but whenever she did it felt like a heavy hand was pushing against her, keeping her where she was. After Draco had kidnapped her from St Mungo’s, he had brought her to this abandoned place. From listening to their conversation she ascertained that she was in the old Malfoy mansion.
Draco had kept his wand at her throat, his eyes willing someone to try and stop him. No one had. He had dragged her outside and thrown her roughly into a sack before apparating. He had dragged the sack across the ground, not caring if he hurt her, indeed it felt to her as if Draco was trying to hurt her as much as he could. He had dragged her down stone steps into the cellar before tearing the sack away from her and throwing her into the room and casting the spells that bound her. She had yelled and yelled for what had seemed like hours until Lucius had come down and beaten her.
“If you can’t tell when you’re defeated, Mudblood, I shall have to show you further.” He had growled as he beat her, using a length of knotted rope. Then he had cast the silencing charm on her and left her where she was.
----
Severus waited that evening for Hermione. He had promised to take her to a little restaurant he knew in Paris for dinner, it wasn’t something that he would have ordinarily decided to do, but he had something to ask her. Slowly turning the ring over in his hand he waited patiently. Nerves were getting the better of him as he waited. It wasn’t every day you asked someone to marry you.
Suddenly, a voice crept into his mind.
Help me Severus!
Hermione slipped from his mind almost as soon as she had entered it. He sat upright, not slouching any more. He slipped the ring into the breast pocket of his shirt and buttoned it, patting it to make sure it stayed there. His mind was running fast, he didn’t know what to do. He knew that it was Lucius who had her, and he feared for her. He knew what Lucius was capable of.
----
Hermione shrunk back against the wall as Lucius advanced on her, his son at his side. They both looked at her, smirking at her battered and bloodstained state. Her Mediwitch robes torn and dirty. Lucius took one look at her and spat. She flinched and turned away as his spittle landed on her. He laughed and turned to his son.
“Who’d want to rescue her now, look at her.”
Draco laughed with his father as Hermione sobbed. The rope was cutting horrid welts into her flesh, she ached and bled from a hundred different cuts and bruises and she was exhausted. With her last ounce of strength she muttered “leglimens”. Not sure if it would work, being such powerful magic, and her being so depleted, she muttered,
“Help me Severus!”
----
Severus raced to the school gates. He needed to find where they’d taken her. The best place to start would be where they had taken her from. He reached the school gates and apparated to St Mungo’s.
