Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Hermione primped in front of the mirror, taming her locks into a twist and applying a smattering of makeup. Nothing heavy, just a bit for her eyes and lips. Ginny whistled, “Look who’s dressing to impress.”
Looking through the mirror with a worried grimace, “It’s not too much, is it?” Shrugging, “I feel just a little...slutty.”
Ginny did a quick assessment. Hair loosely bound with tendrils of curls spilling forth, framing her face which was modestly made up. A creme silk shirt, tastily cut to be flattering but covering the necessities. Black skirt cut above the knee and curving in just the right places along her hips and waist. Practical and yet beautiful, much like the girl wearing it, “You could never be slutty, Hermione.”
Forcing out a breath, “Good.” Glancing at her friend with a mischievous grin, “I’m trying to stop his heart, think it’ll work?”
Tilting her head, “Lose the shirt and you’ve got it.”
Swatting at her with a towel, “Ginny!”
The redhead giggled and perched on the edge of the tub, “So?”
Sighing, “So, what?”
“Don’t so what me. You’ve been holding out on your bestest girlfriend. You are obliged to give me all the filthy details of Hogwarts’ delectable bad boy.”
Raising an eyebrow, “Delectable?”
Shrugging, “Half of Hogwarts wet their knickers just looking at him. If we could discover a way to sew that mouth of his shut even Ron might give him a go.”
Snorting, “Nice imagery.” Rolling her eyes, “I have no details to offer at the moment-“
”Bull-...I heard you two got steamy in the library before we even came across his rather shy request for a date.”
“It was rather sweet, wasn’t it?”
“I have the cavities to prove it.”
Turning around with a grin, “Okay, I kissed his socks off but that’s it.”
Jumping, “Details!”
Tapping her chin, walking out to the dorm and searching for a necklace, “Hot and steamy. He may act nervous but he knows how to kiss.” She frowned over her shoulder, “His nickname isn’t true, is it?”
“Which one?” Hermione gave her a look, “Oh, no. Pansy Parkinson started that rumor as a joke and it stuck.” Wincing, “I wonder if he even knows.”
Raising an eyebrow, “If people were calling me a slut behind my back they wouldn’t dare do it to my face. I especially would have to kill the one that started it. They weren’t an item, were they?”
Ginny quickly shook her head, “Oh, no, my intelligence report tells me they’ve been best friends since infancy.”
“Intelligence report?”
Smirking, “I have a Slytherin spy and I’m not gonna tell.”
Shaking her head, looking in the mirror to assess the damage, “Harry’ll be mad.”
Rolling her eyes, “Harry and I aren’t a consideration, anymore.”
Freezing before turning, “Oh, Ginny...I’m-“
Holding up a hand, “Don’t be. It’s for the best. Besides, how can I compete with whoever he really wants...“
”I could help you, Gin-“
”Nope. I’m perfectly happy. Besides, who knows...”

Draco stomped his feet, fiddling with his hair and Pansy was instantly reminded of him at five when he couldn’t get his shoes to tie. She crossed the dormitory, sneering at Blaise who took the hint and left. She slapped at her best friend’s hands until he let them fall with a huff. Taking out her wand, she tapped his head and his hair instantly fell about his face. Pouting, “Pansy-“
Shaking her head, “You want cute, not Malfoy, now let me fix this.”
Chin jutting out, “I’m not cute.”
Snorting, “Not with that expression you’re not.”
Slumping into his bed, head toward the floor and hands lying limply between his legs,, “What am I doing, Pansy? What was I thinking? She’s not going to like me or date me, much less marry me-“
Holding a palm gently over his mouth, “Let’s start with the liking you part, okay. Stop trying to plan your future years in advance. Go for the moment.”
Narrowing his eyes, “Sounds Gryffindor-ish.”
Shrugging, “And you’re wanting to date a Gryffindor.”
“I have less than three months!”
Nodding, knowing without asking exactly what he was talking about. All the Slytherins with Death eater parents did. She was just fortunate Ron’s proposal came before Voldemort fell or she’d be stuck with a muggleborn as well, “All the more reason to lose a bit of your pride and try a different approach.”
Gaping, “I’ve practically thrown my pride away to do this.”
“And you’re going to have to toss the rest of it. What, you think Ron just
instantly decided to start dating me? I had to give up a lot, my views on muggleborns just one of many.” Straightening his tie and dragging him to his feet, forcing him to leave his robes behind, “Draco. You’re a Slytherin and a pompous pureblood. She’s a Gryffindor and a selfless muggle-born. You’re only common ground is Hogwarts. Yes, you’re both brilliant. You both love books and you’re both as stubborn as hell. You need her a hell of a lot more than she needs you. If either of you is going to have to sacrifice, it’s going to be you.”
Sagging back onto his bed, Pansy rolling her eyes and putting her hands on her hips, “I don’t want this.”
Frowning, “Then don’t go.”
Shaking his head, “No, I...” Sighing,”...I don’t know...”
Pansy smiled just a little, kneeling down and carefully cupping his
chin, “Draco. Just be yourself. Be that little boy I remember that I fell instantly in love with. You do that and I guarantee this won’t be a marriage of contracts and obligations.” He looked up, startled, “Don’t hold back, don’t lie...give her everything, Draco. If there’s one thing I’ve learned about them...if you’re genuine you’ll receive it back ten fold.”
