Start of a New Year

Chapter Ten
Start of A New Year

Severus slept for the rest of the afternoon into the evening, something highly unusual for him. Being relaxed and pleased with himself didn't hurt.

When he woke up in the morning he was business as usual, but there was a certain spring to his step when he thought about the fact that Hermione would be coming back to school next week. How they would be able to spend time together other than as teacher and student, he wasn't sure. Dumbledore's eyes rarely missed anything, and it wasn't lost on him that the headmaster was curious as to where he'd been disappearing to all summer.

What Severus had been doing was against rules and it shouldn't even be thought about. But he couldn't help the fact that he was falling in love after all these years. He'd never known how to even handle a female in a gentle and caring way, not until the last few days, and that was with help from the Kama Sutra.

For all his blackness he was still a nervous suitor, even more nervous now that she would be in the same building with him for the entire year. It would be dangerous to them both to even consider attempting to touch her in a sexual way.

A week later, Hermione herself was sitting on the Hogwarts express, smiling and saying nothing, which puzzled Harry and Ron. They'd been trying to get her to tell them about her summer and all she would say is that she had fun, and it was lovely. She looked as if she was hiding something, and that something, she was not telling. She merely crossed her legs daintily at the ankles and looked out the window, ignoring them, off in a world of her own.

"I swear," Ron told Harry, "I knew this would happen."

"What?"

"Hermione's gone mental. I told you that our first year. Remember?"

"I don't know what she's thinking, but it's none of our business or she'd tell us," Harry said.

"But we didn't even get to see her all summer. There was a lack of owls from her."

"I was busy, Ron," Hermione said, turning from the window and smiling at him. "I told you that when I met you two this morning."

"But Herm, you could have at least visited."

"I had lots to do." Think, Hermione. You can't tell them about Snape. "After all, it's our last year here and I have had to give thought to what I will be doing afterwards."

"That's a long way off," Harry said. "Besides, I thought that you were going to the University."

"I may. Then again, I might not."

Harry shook his head at Ron, meaning it would do no good to try to force her to tell them. Whatever it was, it was a big secret.

It was early evening when the Hogwarts express arrived and they headed for the school. Hagrid was on hand to greet the new first years that looked small and scared. The three of them gave Hagrid a hug and went to the carriages that would take them to the door of the school.

Hermione's blood was rushing through her veins in excitement. Soon, she would see Severus again. Severus. She blinked. He didn't think her odd and he loved her and her books. They suited. She would never have thought it.

Severus' habit was to rarely show him self when the students returned with the exception of the sorting ceremony, which the Headmaster required all staff to be present at. Usually he spent that evening skulking about the halls, busting students that were late and assigning detentions.

Dumbledore, McGonagall, Flitwick, Hooch, and most of the other staff milled about the front hall, giving directions and greeting returning students. Harry and Ron walked in with Hermione just as Severus himself came up from the dungeons.

Minerva McGonagall nudged Dumbledore when she saw the potions master walk calmly into the hall and stand sentry. He looked and wondered what had caused Severus to put in an appearance.

Of course, no student said hello to him, as he was looking quite dark and unapproachable.

"Good evening, Severus," Dumbledore said. "I am delighted that you saw fit to join us in greeting the students."

"Thank you Headmaster," he said, wishing Dumbledore would quit watching him. Hermione and the other two were in conversation with some of the other Gryffindors, over by the door.

Harry and Ron nearly stopped in their tracks when they turned to leave and saw him standing there, arms crossed, hooded eyes roaming the halls. Hermione was following them, and she smiled at him.

"Good evening Professor," she said.

He looked down at her and nodded, his facial expression never changing.

Ron thought, Oh Gods, she spoke to him, now he's going to snark something at her.

"Good evening, Miss Granger. Welcome back."

Ron and Harry glanced at one another.

"Good evening, Potter, Weasley," he added grudgingly.

Dumbledore and Minerva exchanged looks.

Severus' heart had leaped when Hermione looked at him with those brown eyes. Was it only last week that they had been together? He ached to sample that soft mouth again. It was impossible with too many people around. Already she had turned from him and was walking off up the stairs. Her robes hid the rounded rear that he knew was there and that he was lusting after.

Severus forgot about Dumbledore, so intent was he on watching Hermione. Dumbledore was watching him, and he looked at Minvera and grinned.

"I wonder what brought that on?" he murmured to her. Minerva shook her head in puzzlement.

They couldn't discuss it in the hall, but they did later as they were returning upstairs. It'd been a long day, and the sorting ceremony had dragged on longer due to more students coming in.

"Did you see him looking at Hermione?" Minerva said.

"Yes, odd isn't it? I would never have thought Severus would even speak to those three voluntarily."

Dumbledore thought for a moment.

"It does seem to me, Minerva that last year, he was quite friendly with Miss Granger. She spent time helping him, if I recall correctly."

"No harm in that," she replied. "It would probably do him good to interact with the students more. It improves student relations."

"Quite right, my dear," he replied. "How about a cup of tea before bed?"

"That sounds lovely."

Student relations weren't at all what Severus was thinking about. Conjugal would be more like it. He'd managed to sneak glances at Hermione during the ceremony without being noticed. Several times their eyes had met. He'd trembled with need as if he were a young boy and not a staid, older man. Discipline, he'd reminded himself. He had to have discipline. He couldn't let anyone know what was going on.

He didn't trust himself tonight. The urge to go to Hermione in the dormitory was too strong. He didn't dare do that. He was still learning in the sex department, and he wasn't thrilled with the idea of a quick encounter. He was just as hungry for the companionship that she gave him as he was for the physical coupling.

So he made himself return to the dungeons alone, and he went to his lonely bed where he lay awake thinking about her. It was the first week they'd been apart since school ended last summer.

Hermione had only her pillow for comfort. She frowned and cuddled it closer, sniffing. The feathers didn't smell anything like her spicy potions master. It wasn't warm and comforting. Damn. She missed Severus. She'd best get used to calling him Professor Snape again, she thought sleepily as she started to drift off. She might just freak the school out calling him Severus.

When she finally made it to potions class the next afternoon, she was aching to be near him. Harry and Ron had just about given up trying to talk to her about the summer. They'd settled into their old relationship, easier now that the threat of Voldemort was gone. They didn't want to sit in the front row in potions, so they settled for sitting behind her instead.

Hermione was pleased that no one wanted in the front row. The majority of the class including poor Neville, tried to get as far away from Snape as possible. If you sat up front, chances were you would end up facing his wrath.

Severus went through his first day speech to the returning seventh years, and he made it clear that he would accept no nonsense from them.

"At least," he said, "I will be rid of the lot of you this year. That is, IF you don't fail my class." He glared at Neville, who was already trembling and had been before Snape ever came into the room.

Severus came a bit closer to Hermione. She could smell the aroma of pungent spices that was he. Warmth spread into her belly and lower regions. A mental picture of the two of them, naked together on her bed, flashed through her naughty mind. She wriggled in her seat.

"Miss Granger!" his voice permeated through her heated thoughts. "Do pay attention, I do not repeat myself."

She looked up and he was looking back with his stern, hateful look, except for his eyes, which seemingly knew where her mind had been.

He decided to make it look good.

"If it weren't the first day, Miss Granger, I would give you a detention. Let it be a warning for all of you."

"Quit making Snape mad," Ron whispered to her when he turned and walked away.

He's not mad, Hermione thought, taking up parchment and quill to write notes with. I would hope that he misses me as much as I do him. She still wasn't confident enough or really knowledgeable enough to know she was driving him sexually mad the whole time she was near him. His robes hid quite a few things.

Severus went to the storage room to get supplies but also to attempt to calm down his body. That creamy, freckled skin had gotten to him when he'd looked down at her. The dark side of him self had longed to toss her over the worktable and have her right there, the class be damned. Right now he had a throbbing erection that was straining the buttonholes in the fly of his trousers. At least his frock coat was long and would hide it. It didn't make him any more comfortable, as there was no chance of his body cooperating, not as long as she was in the room. After class, he had a free period. Good. He was going to need it.

It was almost a week later before Hermione knocked on his door late in the afternoon. Severus had been working in his study and fretting over his lack of finding a way to see her when the knock came. He got up and went to the door.

She stood there, books in her arms.

"Hello, Professor," she said mischievously. "I think you forgot that I had these."

He looked out into the hall. It was deserted. He stepped back to let her in and closed the door behind her.

"I'm sorry," she said swiftly, wondering if he would tell her to leave. "I had to see you. And I did still have your books from last year."

Severus took the books from her and set them aside.

"I have missed you," he admitted, taking a step towards her and stopping, hesitant to touch her for fear of losing control and making a fool of him self.

She came over to him, and wrapped her arms around him.

"Severus."

Merlin's Robe. He swallowed. Hard. His hands were already sliding around her narrow waist, pulling her up to him. His body already reacted before his mind could catch up. Their lips met in a scorching kiss, their physical hunger evident.

Hermione wrapped her tongue around his and sucked him into her mouth. She tingled all over as his large hands rubbed at her back and hips and rounded rear. She allowed herself the luxury of threading her fingers into his hair as he bent down to her.

Instinct was guiding her to do things that she hadn't a clue as to whether was right or not. She only knew that she wanted this man, wanted him as close as he could get, buried in her body.

Severus was nervous, and gave up trying to remember his chapters of the Kama Sutra. His body was swiftly ruling his mind. He'd spent the better part of the week with an erection that pretty much refused to go down. He was pressing it against her, rubbing, wanting her to feel him.

It wasn't enough time. Only two hours to curfew, and then she needed to be back in her house. He was greedy. He wanted longer with her. For now, it would have to do, he decided, as her hand trailed down to where his erection happily throbbed into her questing fingers. There was no way he was stopping. Not now. A week had seemed like an eternity to him, and he was starving for her.

"Now," she begged, pulling away from his mouth only long enough to utter the word. She was caught up in him, her pulse madly fluttering, and the curls at the base of her belly dampening in anticipation.

Severus hurriedly and awkwardly scooped her up in his arms, nearly tripping over an armchair. He wouldn't stop kissing her long enough to see where he was going. They ended up on his sofa, which for once he was thankful was wide enough to hold them. He tore at her knickers, too impatient to try to undress her all the way. Hermione managed to kick them off even as she undid the buttons on his fly. His erection sprang free, and she stroked the smooth, silky skin.

"I can't stand much of that," he admitted in a groan, pressing her back into the pillows that resided in one corner.

"Look how red he is," she said, marveling at how his body swelled at her touch. She rubbed the wetness down his length, and Severus had to remove himself from her hand.

"Naughty girl," he said, two of his fingers parting her and finding her own wetness abundant. She tugged at him, wanting him to hurry, not wanting to play.

He obliged, too excited and too needy to try to do things properly. Severus thrust into her, and she groaned, pressing her hips upward, taking him too hurried to marvel at the fact that it no longer hurt. His pants fell to his knees and he could feel the fabric of her knee socks rubbing against his bare behind when she locked her legs around him.

"Yes, Severus," she moaned, frantically meeting his thrusts. She grabbed handfuls of his cape, holding on to him as the sofa shook. He wanted to rip off her sweater and bear her breasts but all he could do was brace his arms on either side of her and push farther into her welcoming heat.

"Gods, don't stop," she gasped. He bit into the side of her neck and she yelped, but didn't stop rocking with him. The passion was consuming them, and he felt like he was dying. Hermione was starting to whimper under him and her inner muscles were starting to milk him like mad.

Hermione felt suspended as her entire body pulsed around his driving organ. She screamed, followed by his groans as he filled her with his own effusion. He nestled his head in her neck, breathing hard. She gulped air as she laid waiting for her heartbeat to return to normal. It was like a storm had hit and then passed.

At last, Severus raised his head, and gently kissed her. She kissed him back. He was still inside her and she smiled at him, wanting more.

"No," he said reluctantly but firmly. "It's too close to your curfew. We can't risk getting caught."

"I don't want to go," she said, nibbling at his mouth. He withdrew from her on weak legs. He had to, or there would be no curfew. She would spend the night in his bed.

"We'll have to figure out something," he promised. "I can't stand being away from you."

"Do you have any idea what it's like, sitting there with you carping at the class, and wanting to be in your arms instead?" She asked, picking up her knickers from the floor, and suddenly blushing when she really thought about how uninhibited she'd been. She could feel his come still wet on her thighs, and she blushed even more.

"Yes, I do," Severus regarded her with hooded eyes, noting how she was blushing. "It's not any better standing there wanting you while forty pairs of eyes watch."

She put her knickers on and slowly stood up.

"Did you really want me?" she asked.

"Yes". "I can't seem to help myself." It was the damned Kama Sutra, he thought, and his own awkwardness. If he wasn't so in love with her, all he had to do was summon up his dark side and he could be as domineering as he liked. But that was past.

The Professor was in love, and he wasn't minding it. Not one bit.
