I’ll Weight You Down, I’ll Watch You Choke

Niveus yelped and struggled as the elf picked him up and started carrying him downstairs. The elf looked at him fearfully and tried to avoid his paws as he attempted to claw it. He gave up after a few minutes, and let the elf carry him to the garden, putting him on the floor.

Niveus got to his feet lazily as the elf popped away, stretching slowly and looked around. Lucius was sitting on a bench not too far away from him, holding his head in his fingertips and watching him intensely.

Niveus considered running for the dog door that was installed on the garden door not long ago, but Lucius looked like a much better pillow. Plus, he might just take him to Hogwarts again if he acts cute and cuddly.

Niveus ran to the bench in full speed, and jumped on Lucius’ lap. He curled up and made himself comfortable before closing his eyes.

Lucius automatically stroked the fur on his pet’s back, and gestured the woman to come closer.

The woman beamed, her face turning into a grin. She quickly ran to the bench.

“Aww, he’s adorable!” She squealed, looking down at the golden lump on Lucius’ lap.

Niveus snapped his eyes open. What the hell? He lifted his head, and his eyes met the brown eyes of the woman gazing down at him. He dragged his eyes to Lucius. I didn’t know he had a girlfriend.

“Oh, wow,” The woman gasped, “He has such precious eyes! I have never seen a dog with green eyes before…”

Niveus scanned the woman in front of him. She was wearing the ugliest shoes he’s ever seen, and cheap, coarse robes. Her brown hair was straight and slightly frizzy, falling down her back. Her eyes were light brown, almost hazel. They were circled with heavy eyeliner that made her eyes pop. She had huge lips and white teeth, which gleamed in the sun.

My my, Niveus looked back at Lucius, the idea of him having a lower upset him strangely. Bi, aren’t we? And have terrible taste in females…

The woman continued her cooing, and reached out to grab Niveus off of Lucius’ lap into her arms, hugging tightly.

Niveus’ eyes widened, and he struggled weakly in her arms. Get off!

Lucius eyed his pet in the trainer’s arms and frowned.

“Excuse me,” He interrupted coolly, “I believe you have better things to do than strangling my pet.”

Aha! Niveus grinned at the woman. In your face!

“I apologize,” The woman said quickly, putting Niveus on the floor again.

Lucius nodded as soon as Niveus got down from the trainers arms.

The woman walked across the garden and lifted up her case from the floor.

She opened the case, and took out a piece of biscuit.

Niveus’ eyes widened in realization, and started to run towards the door. This is not happening…

The trainer stood up cheerfully and walked over to Niveus, stopping when she was inches away and stared down at the golden puppy.

She held up the biscuit, which was strangely appealing to Niveus. Niveus’ eyes followed the trainer’s hand as she held the biscuit over his head.

“Sit.” She said in a cooing voice that nearly made Niveus choke. The trainer stared at him as if she wanted to murder him in a tight hug.

‘Sit.” She repeated, waving the biscuit over Niveus’ head. Niveus followed the now irresistible biscuit with his eyes. Mine.

The trainer sighed slightly and stole a glance at Lucius, who tapped his shoes slightly on the stone in front of the bench, trying hard not to laugh out loud.

The trainer moved her gaze to Niveus again, her eyes lightly hardened and narrowed.

“Sit,” this time the voice was soft, but edged with something that Niveus couldn’t quite place his finger on. The trainer moved her hand backwards over Niveus’ head, smiling as Niveus had to sit down to keep its eyes on the biscuit that was moving over his head.

“Good boy!” she beamed, and stuffed the biscuit into Niveus’ mouth. Niveus chewed the biscuit automatically. Tastes like chocolate, Niveus thought as he munched, the thought of eating dog food was out of his mind.

He swallowed, and panted, staring at the trainer. Must.Have.More! They must have laced the biscuit with some kind of drug, Niveus thought, or dogs are more attracted to chocolate than he liked to know.

“Let’s try that again,” the trainer cooed, her eyes softened again, “Sit.”

The biscuit was over Niveus’ head again, waving slightly. It took Niveus some time to realize that he just ate dog food.

Niveus’ eyes widened as he lifted his head up to stare at the waving biscuit, turning to glare at the trainer.

The trainer hesitated as Niveus glared, but still tried again.

“Sit,” she said, her voice wavering slightly.

Niveus growled, and jumped on the woman, aiming for her stomach. He butted his head against her stomach, knocking her down to the ground.

“Umph!” The trainer’s scream was muffled, and she pushed the golden puppy off of her as Lucius rushed over.

“Niveus!” Lucius frowned, picking up the still growling puppy from the garden floor and stroked it behind its ears. The growls quieted and the puppy relaxed, sagging in Lucius’ arms.

Lucius turned to the trainer, who was now getting up from the floor, putting her already dirty clothes. He smiled apologetically.

“I apologize,” he said slowly, looking at her coldly, “He’s not in the best…condition today.”

“That’s alright,” she said cautiously, “Perhaps some other time?”

“If you wish,” Lucius said politely.

The trainer nodded, still looking at Niveus, confusing in her eyes. She shook her head and turned to back Lucius.

“Perhaps I can drop by tomorrow?” she attempted.

Lucius nodded shortly.

“That would be fine.”

Lucius snapped his fingers and a house elf appeared.

“Sir?” It asked, shivering slightly and eyeing the trainer, who was putting her supplies back into her suitcase.

“Show this lady the way out,” He sneered, and smiled coldly to the trainer, “have a good day.”

The trainer nodded, and followed the elf inside.

Lucius sighed, and carried Niveus inside. He dumped him on the bed. Niveus quickly crawled under the blankets.

“What am I going to do with you?” Lucius murmured, a growl edging his voice. “Two person already. For today.”

The bump on the bed moved slightly, and snorted.

Lucius waited for another reaction, but when none came, he frowned and walked out of the room, leaving Niveus on the bed.

Several minutes later, Niveus poked his head out from under the blankets and pawed his tongue. Dog food! He still couldn’t believe he fell for it. Lucius looked upset enough to lock him in the house for weeks. It wasn’t like he won’t obey for his freedom. He wasn’t that unreasonable…he would sit, roll around, or chase his own tail if he could just have one more chance of getting to Hogwarts again. Dog good weren’t necessary. If they think they can wave a dog biscuit in front of his face and he’d be addicted to it like dwarves are addicted to rum, they were so wrong.

But for now he has to obey, obey and find another chance go get out of this nightmare.

Another month passed smoothly between Niveus and the Malfoys. When the trainer came around the second time, Niveus was strangely obedient, more so without the lure of the treats. The trainer was dismissed after a week or so, although Lucius doubted the fast development came from the amazing abilities of the trainer as the woman claimed. Lucius still gave her 50 gallons worth of tips at the last meeting – she had saved him from training the pet himself, no matter how ridiculous her methods were.

As time passed by, Lucius started to notice strange things. Sometimes late at night, when he’s in his sleep, he could feel someone lying beside him. But every time he reached out and pulled the body close, willing himself to open his eyes to see who it was, his fatigue always overpower the will to open his eyes. Other times he just held the body close, scared to identify his partner, fearing whoever will disappear if he moved a muscle. So he just lay on the bed, the petite male body fitted snuggly in his arms until he fell back to deep sleep again.

Sometimes if he stayed quiet enough, he could hear the soft breathing of the other person; smell the vaguely familiar scent of the rain. When he woke up in the morning, the person was always gone, leaving his bed empty except Niveus who curled itself around a pillow at the foot of the bed. Lucius did know his mysterious partner had ebony black hair, due to random strands he would find on the pillow during several mornings.

Slowly Lucius got used to the presence, got used to the warmth that lured him to sleep every night. The mysterious person, or as Lucius liked to call him, Midnight, has been haunting his mind ever since. He tried everything in his power to find out who Midnight is. He went through dozens of family trees, tried waking up very early in the morning and searched all over his Manor. But all he found when he woke up every morning was the empty spot beside him, Niveus dozing on a pillow and a occasional string of black hair, lying on his pillow.
