Severus entered his rooms and pressed his hands to his lips to savour the feeling of Hermione’s lips. He smiled and went to his drinks cabinet, deciding that her kiss warranted a drink to celebrate. As he poured whiskey into a tumbler, he was suddenly aware of a tickling on his neck. He smiled, expecting to feel Hermione’s lips next. However, he was to be disappointed. The tickling turned into a sudden sharp sting, and he held his hand to his throat. A large silver spider was sat on his shoulder, its fangs buried in Severus’s throat. Severus cried out and knocked the creature to the floor, before stepping back. The spider was very familiar, and it scuttled onto the sofa where Snape and Hermione had been sat before transforming into Lucius Malfoy. Malfoy laughed coldly, dressed in the same black suit he had worn when he had seen Snape at the manor.

“This animagus set up is so very, very entertaining,” Lucius sneered, “As you have no doubt noticed, I can get anywhere.” Severus rolled his eyes and swallowed his drink.

“Then why come here?” he hissed, feeling his neck for blood. Lucius laughed.

“Don’t worry, I’m not toxic,” he smirked at Snape, “And I’m just here for a quick word with you.”

“Toxic? You are downright deadly,” Snape hissed, “What is your business? If you are hoping for help with Granger, you shan’t get it from me.” Lucius paused at Snape’s comments before reaching for Snape’s wand, which he had foolishly left on the floor where he had been tending to Hermione.

“The tragic thing with being an animagus is that I cannot take my wand with me,” Lucius said, casually twirling Snape’s wand in his hands, “It’s a hard enough charm to make my clothes follow me as they do when I’m in animal form. However, when a fool such as you leaves one lying around, it makes my life a lot easier.” He levelled the wand at Snape, a sneer on his lips.

“That was quite a romantic scene I scuttled into a moment ago,” Lucius mocked, “About to kiss her again Severus? Tut tut.” Snape raised his and glared at Lucius.

“I will protect her with my dying breath,” Snape hissed at Lucius, who merely laughed.

“Yes, I’m sure you will. What a bore,” Lucius said, rolling his eyes, “And that’s why I wished to tell you that I have decided that Granger is a lost cause. Seeking my revenge against her will only endanger me, and as you so kindly reminded me last time we spoke, the Dementors will not be so kind next time.” Snape eyed Lucius suspiciously.

“What are you planning?” Snape said warily, “Who have you employed instead of me?”

“I’ve just found a way of killing two birds with one stone,” Lucius replied coolly, “Now you know, I bid you goodnight. Before I go, I must remind you, mention anything to Granger and I shall be forced to find you Snape. Just remember, my animagus can scuttle around here without being spotted, and a quick spell will make my venom toxic.” Lucius smiled threateningly before transforming back into the large silver spider.

“Lucius, wait!” Snape called, but the spider quickly escaped out of Snape’s open window.

“Hermione,” Snape whispered, quickly scrawling a letter and sending it by owl to her room.

Lucius had heard far more than he had let on to Snape. He had snuck in to speak with Snape about his prior demand of meeting Hermione, but had found him with her. He listened carefully to Hermione’s story, and realised that there was a far easier way to getting to her. This idea was reiterated when he followed Snape to the door, and was able to watch Hermione address both Snape and Lupin, before walking away from them both.
“The lycanthrope.” Lucius suddenly realised that there was a far more malleable character at his disposal. Snape re-entered and Lucius decided to indulge in his favourite hobby, Snape teasing.

After leaving Snape, he headed for his next target; Lupin. He scuttled into Lupin’s room through his open window. Lupin was sobbing at his desk, a bottle of firewhiskey in his hand. Lucius smirked, or at least, smirked as much as he could as a large tarantula. He scuttled towards him before transforming behind Lupin. Lupin turned and let out a yell before reaching for his wand. Lucius raised his hands as a sign of surrender and stepped backwards.

“Professor Lupin,” Lucius said, “I have a proposition for you.”

“You are meant to be in Azkaban,” Remus said, raising his wand to Lucius, “Give me one good reason why I should not call Dumbledore.”

“Because of Hermione Granger,” he replied coolly. Remus\' glare faltered.

“If you want to hurt her I will kill you,” he threatened.

“If I had wanted to kill her, why would I come here?” Lucius asked sarcastically.

“What do you want?” he asked curiously.

“Revenge against the traitor, Severus Snape.” At those words, Remus’s ears pricked up, and Lucius noticed the corner of his mouth twitch.

“And why do you need Hermione? Or me for that?” Remus asked suspiciously.

“Hermione is the only person that Snape loves.” Remus flinched as Lucius said it, “If she is in trouble, he will come for her, and I can seize him and punish him before having him accused of capturing Hermione in a jealous rage. Tortured to madness and then Azkaban,” Lucius said gleefully. Remus rolled his eyes.

“So Azkaban has driven you insane? Insanity and a Slytherin personality are a dangerous mix,” Remus smirked, although his tone seemed to sound approving.

“Imagine it Lupin, you could save her,” Lucius said, his voice low, “You could be her hero, and she would love you for it.” Remus’s eyes watched Lucius intently.

“What do you want me to do?” he asked softly.

“Gain me access to Hermione, all I need is a location outside of school. Somewhere in Hogsmeade maybe, I can catch her, tell you where she is, and you can save her. All I need is for you to make sure that she is there, and for Severus to think he can help her,” Lucius said, eager to lure Lupin into helping, “You can rescue her, she shall not be harmed.” Lupin nodded.

“If you harm her, I shall kill you,” Lupin said bluntly, “But if you have him sent to Azkaban, I shall help you escape.” Lucius nodded, desperately trying to hide his glee.

“Thank you Professor. I shall contact you shortly.” Lucius said, extending his hand for a handshake. Remus merely looked at it.

“I am helping you Malfoy, but I don’t like you,” Lupin sneered, “And I see you only as a maniac.” Lucius withdrew his arm and smirked.

“But a maniac that can get you what you want, Hermione’s heart,” he said, before transforming into his animagus and scuttling out of the window.
