Ten Years- Part 10
The new year of Hogwarts started as normal. Severus had received a letter from Hermione telling him she had reached Paris safely. He sat in Albus’s old chair and watched as the new first years were sorted into their new house. Once done, he got to his feet and waited for the hall to fall silent.
“Welcome to a new year at Hogwarts. To our returning students, welcome back, to our new students, welcome. I only have a few announcements. First of all, on Halloween there will be not only a feast, but a masquerade ball. It is open to all years. For second and first years, if you need help with your costumes, please see your head of house.
“Second, I would like to introduce our new Defense Against the Dark Arts professor, Professor R.J. Lupin. As you all have heard, thanks to Hogwarts former Head Girl Potions Mistress Hermione Granger, Professor Lupin has been cure of being a werewolf. So, let’s make him feel welcomed. Now, tuck in everyone.” Severus announced.
The hall was filled with chatter and laughter. The older students began moving from their house tables to sit with their friends in other houses. As Severus ate, his thoughts wondered to Hermione. He hoped that she was enjoying herself and that she was safe.
“Have you heard from Hermione?” Remus asked.
“Yes. She made it to Paris safely. She’ll be in Paris for three days, then she’s off to Marseilles, then Lyon, then Bordeaux and finally to Chavenay. She’ll then return home for a week or so. Then I don’t know where she’s going.” Severus answered.
“Wow. This is going to be hard for you two. I mean not being able to spend time together. I wish I could help.” Remus said.
“Thanks Remus, but there’s not much you can do.” Severus replied with a smile.
Meanwhile in Paris, Hermione was standing in front of the large potions class explaining her potion. She was talking to the students who were in their last year of the university. She was excited.
“So, now that you all understand the complexities of this potion, are their any questions?” Hermione asked.
“Mistress Granger, does the subject feel any pain while taking the potion?” a young woman asked.
“No. That was one of my concerns, but so far, the subjects who are currently taking the potion and Professor Remus Lupin, who was the first to take it, have reported no pain during the doses or during the full moon.” Hermione answered.
“Does this potion effect the subjects behavior in anyway?” a young man asked.
“The only behavioral change has been that the subjects feel happier around the full moon as opposed to them feeling tired or feelings of pain.” Hermione replied.
“How does the potion taste?” asked another young man.
“Ha. Ha. The subjects have all commented that the potions tastes awful. Unfortunately, there is little that can be done about the flavor.” Hermione chuckled.
“How did you come up with the right potion to cure Werewolves?” asked another young woman.
“Well, it took several years. The base of my potion was the Wolfsbane potion which has been perfected by Potions Master Severus Snape. I simply used his formula for the Wolfsbane and went through nearly four years of trial and error.” Hermione answered.
“Well, I believe we are out of time. Let’s give a nice round of applause for Potions Mistress Hermione Granger.” the professor said with a smile.
The class clapped and rose to their feet. Hermione bowed slightly and waved. As the class filed out the professor helped Hermione pack away her things.
“Mademoiselle, thank you for coming to speak to my class.” he said.
“It was my pleasure Professor Bonet.” Hermione replied.
“Please, call me Jean.” Jean said.
“Very well. I must be going. I have to prepare for my next lecture later this afternoon at the University of Potions.” Hermione replied.
“Of course. Oh, my wife and were wondering if you would like to join us for dinner this evening. If you have time that is.” Jean asked.
“I would love to. What time and where?” Hermione answered.
“My wife and I will pick you at your hotel at around 7 this evening.” Jean said.
“Perfect. I will see you tonight.” Hermione said.
The rest of the day Hermione gave her lecture, returned to her hotel and got ready for dinner. Promptly at seven Jean and his wife arrived outside her hotel. They took her to a wonderful restaurant nearby. Hermione told them of her years at Hogwarts, how she worked so hard on the potion and her joy and excitement when it worked.
“Is there someone special in your life Hermione?” Michelle asked.
“Yes. I’m seeing Professor Severus Snape. Well, Headmaster Snape now.” Hermione answered.
“Ahh. I remember Severus. He was my brightest student. If I remember correctly, he was a bit of a loner when he went to the university.” Jean recalled.
“Yes, but he’s changed a lot since then. Especially after the final battle. He’s learned to live his life now.” Hermione said.
“I’m glad to hear that. The next time you speak to him, please tell him I said hello.” Jean requested.
“I sure will.” Hermione said with a smile.
September faded into October, October into November and November into December. Severus was sitting by the lake staring out over the frozen lake. He recalled a memory of Hermione when she was in her 7th year. He had gone for a walk and was heading back. He looked out over the lake and saw Hermione ice skating across the surface.
She moved so gracefully across the ice. Even though the war was building, seeing her out on the ice that day, she looked so free. As if she didn’t have a care in the world. Severus had wished he could be that free. He took a deep breath and let it out slowly, hoping Hermione was enjoying her time in Moravia, Czech Republic. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the letter Hermione had sent to him.
Dearest Severus,
How are you? How are things at Hogwarts? I got a letter from Remus the other day. I’m glad to hear that the houses are getting along so well.
I miss you so much. I’m currently at the hospital here in Moravia, Czech Republic. I will only be here a few more days. I wish I could have been able to make it to the Halloween Ball.
I will be so glad when I can be in your arms again. I love you and miss you. Mainly of course I miss you, me, naked making love all day and night. Soon though we will be together again. I love you and miss you dearly.
Love Always,
Hermione
Severus smiled as he re-read the letter for the hundredth time it seemed since it had arrived three days ago. He got to his feet, placed the letter back in his pocket and re-entered the castle.
Christmas came and went. Hermione flooed every chance she got and was sending him letters ever three days or more. It was now the middle of March. It was a Hogsmeade weekend and the third years and up were in the village of Hogsmeade. A figure apparated outside the gates. A few minutes later, the figured entered the castle. The first person to spot the figure was Albus’s ghost.
“Harry! How nice to see you.” Albus greeted.
“Hello Albus. I’m here to see…” Harry started.
“Harry! What a surprise!” Remus cried as he walked up to Harry and Albus’s ghost.
“Hello Remus.” Harry said.
“Well, I’ll leave you two to talk. It was nice seeing you Harry.” Albus said as he glided down the hall whistling a tune.
“Why don’t you join me in my office for some tea.” Remus suggested.
“Sure.” Harry replied.
The two entered the office. Harry sat down in once of the arm chairs while Remus set about making them some tea. Five minutes later, Remus handed Harry his cup and sat down next to him.
“So, what brings you to Hogwarts?” Remus asked.
“I was actually looking for Snape. Is he here?” Harry answered.
“Oh. Well, Severus isn’t here right now. He said he had a few errands to run and took off after breakfast.” Remus explained.
“Oh.” Harry said.
“I think he’s planning something for Hermione.” Remus said.
“What do you mean?” Harry asked.
“I thought everyone knew. Hermione and Severus have been dating each other since the night of the reunion last summer.” Remus answered.
“OH. Sirius never mentioned anything to me about it.” Harry said.
“Hmmm. Well, Hermione’s been touring the world with her potion. I owe Hermione and Severus my life. After all, she used his work with the Wolfsbane potion as the base for her potion. If it wasn’t for the two of them, I would be dead by now.” Remus said.
“I think people give Snape too much credit for things.” Harry said.
“Harry, when are you going to let this hatred toward Severus go?” Remus asked.
“Never. I have to go. Thanks for the tea Remus.” Harry replied.
Harry sat his cup down and left the room. Remus was worried. Harry had changed. Remus tried to push Harry’s visit from his mind as he started grading papers. Harry made his way outside and off the grounds.
‘So, Snape is with Hermione. We’ll just see about that. Enjoy your time together Snape. Because she won’t be yours much longer.’ Harry thought as he apparated away.
