Chapter 9

Title: Changes of Life
Chapter: 9
Overall Rating: NC17
Pairing: Harry/Draco, Blaise/Seamus (on the side), others
A/N: First thing, I’m trying to make up a little bit for my mistakes in earlier chapters without having to redo them, secondly, it still fits into the plot, so it all works out. If some things don’t connect too well with the first 3 chapters or so, don’t mind them too much, please? Oh well, I just like writing this story, no matter what. And yes, I do have quite a few plots going through my head, so it’s not like I’m just writing while not knowing where it’s going to go. It’s just hard to keep on track sometimes with my different moods I get into, etc.

Once again, life… enough said.

Also, I like this chapter. A lot. Though my really fun chapters are yet to come. (That would be when the plot thickens *nods*) hm… well, perhaps that was a hint? I dunno, whatever, enjoy! ^_^

And of course… *lovels out to all reviewers* *hugs to all readers*

“No! Let go of me! He’s unconscious again, and who the fuck is doing this shit to him, anyway?! And why the fuck won’t you let me go near him?!” Draco struggled in Adrian’s arms, trying to get out of his grasp. He was pissed. Not only was he forced to be away from Harry and away from getting revenge on who did this to him, but also because they were interrupted. If only they weren’t interrupted, then maybe, just maybe, he could have gotten what he’d been wanting for quite some time now. Quite possibly, Harry and he could have… but it was too soon, wasn’t it? They’ve only just started being friendly to each other a couple days ago.

Adrian sighed. “I told him to get out of there.” Adrian gave a look of disgust. “I swear, I hate that man. Harry will eventually be okay. You’ll have to control yourself. If you don’t, I won’t ever let go of you. Control yourself, even if that means reminding yourself it’s for Harry’s sake.”

Draco was too caught up in his thoughts now, at the same time unknowingly calming himself, though he wasn‘t listening to Adrian because of it. “Shit, was it really just that short of a time? Seems longer…” Draco mumbled to himself to where even Adrian couldn’t understand what he was saying. True, it had only been a couple of days, but there seemed something underlying both the boys that made them want each other so soon. First of all, Draco had wanted Harry for years. Secondly, Harry wanted Draco without even knowing it last year, and just recently, felt an immensely strong pull towards the blond (though Draco didn‘t know how exactly he knew that, it was kind of a surprising acknowledgment). Thirdly, Harry’s been acting kind of out of it since that curse was put on him. As if he let go of all his inhibitions.

Finally putting those thoughts as justifying how fast things were going, Draco tuned back in to what Adrian was saying.

“Something’s going to happen, I know it, I just don’t know what, but as of now, you have to be support for Harry, even if that means not talking to him. It is true I do not know what’s going to happen, but I have a few guesses, and none of them are very good. You have to prepare yourself for the worst, excluding death, at least as of right now. This goes far beyond what you know, or can imagine as of yet. Everything will make more sense when you have your wakening.”

Draco took a moment to absorb everything Adrian was telling him. “I’m okay now, you can let go of me.” Draco spoke. When Adrian let go of Draco, he spoke again, getting a bit annoyed and stating it, though calmly, and not really showing he was annoyed. “That’s another thing that annoys me. The whole wakening thing. Isn’t there anything that can be done to help me have it sooner? It’s been long enough already, then maybe I‘d be able to make some bloody sense of everything.” He didn’t really want to get into what Adrian said about Harry yet. He wasn’t too happy with the way things sounded.

“There probably is, but I do not know what it could be. The only thing I do know is that there’s another person involved, and maybe that person will help.”

“Right. I’d like to attempt sleep now…” Draco gave Adrian a meaningful look.

Adrian gave the younger boy a nod, before slipping back into the shadows, leaving Draco alone in his room.

Draco sighed before showering and changing for bed. An hour later (Draco took his time in the shower) found the blond laying on his back, in the center of his bed, staring at the ceiling. He let himself be lost in his thoughts, and tried not to worry too much for Harry.

***

“No!” A woman’s voice rang out, cutting sharply through the serene silence of the forest. “You must have him with you!”

Suddenly, a pain unlike any other traveled throughout the boy’s body. Like the cruciatus curse, only magnified to an extent it felt like every split second was a death in itself.

***

Harry squirmed in his sleep before his eyes snapped open to the pitch blackness, and he sat straight up in bed. He panted hard as the pain left his body, and he felt his skin tingling. He closed his eyes tightly. He didn’t want to be here. He wanted to be somewhere else. His mind kept saying that this wasn’t right. Something was definitely off. But at the moment, he was too tired to make sense of it, and gave up to going back to sleep.

***

When Harry woke again, he was left feeling confused. “What? What happened?” He asked to the fuzzy image of a person before finding his glasses and slipping them on. The image of Madame Pomfrey appeared.

“You were attacked.” Pomfrey answered, finishing up her checkup on him, and redoing a few of the spells, as when he woke up, it changed a few things. “Dumbledore brought you here. He kept everyone in their common rooms for the next morning, though found no one, along with the help of a few aurors. No one was found, so we are left to think it might have been a student. Though, an advanced student. The curse they put on you…”

Pomfrey paused, though she shouldn’t have. For now Harry wouldn’t know what she was going to say. Dumbledore had walked in during her pause, and spoke. “Now, Pomfrey, we don’t want to load too much on Harry.” Looking to Harry, he spoke again. “Pomfrey has found that you have lost some memory. We are unsure as to how it could have happened, but more than likely it was from the fall. You’ve been unconscious for nearly 5 days now. It is a week into the school year. I recommend you be wary of fellow students, and keep your friends close. Unfortunately we do not know who the attacker was. If anything suspicious happens, don’t hesitate to inform me. I trust he is fine to go, Poppy?” He asked, turning to look at Pomfrey.

“Yes…” Pomfrey said, almost as if she wasn’t sure her answer would really matter.

“Very well then. Off you go, Harry, and best of luck with finding your memory back.” Dumbledore spoke, a little too cheerful, but then, that was Dumbledore.

Harry sighed as he hardly said anything and changed into his clothes after the two left. Though the full black outfit confused Harry a bit. Where did he get these clothes? He tried to remember, but he couldn’t. He shrugged it off, and walked to Gryffindor tower. On his way he tried to recall as much as possible, and found that his memory started to get like Swiss cheese since Sirius’ death.

Harry could remember going back to the muggles, but some thing seemed missing. Like a big, important chunk of the summer was removed. The thought sent chills down his spine, and a feeling that someone was watching him. Looking around, he drew his wand. He took a deep breath and realized no one was there. Still on edge, however, he continued his way to the common room.

Fifteen minutes later found Harry standing at the portrait. “Um… I…” Harry thought about how to phrase that he was never given the common room password.

“Oh, don’t worry, Dumbledore told me to be expecting you.” The lady sat cheerful before opening up for him.

Harry took a step back as suddenly a wave of smells, feint, though very odd, hit his senses. Taking a deep breath through his mouth, he entered, and the portrait closed behind him. He barely had time to look about the room before one of the scents became stronger and he found a brown-haired girl in his arms.

“Oh Harry! We were so worried for you! I admit, at first we were angry, but Dumbledore explained it to us, and we’re sorry for how we treated you on the train…” Hermione spoke, hugging Harry tightly.

Harry looked up from the girl to see Ron standing a couple feet away. The red head shifted from foot to foot before speaking. “He said you may not remember some things…”

“Yeah, I don’t remember a lot.” Harry replied, peeling the girl off him, before Hermione looked a little shocked and embarrassed.

“Sorry.” She mumbled.

Harry just looked at Hermione. He didn’t remember too many times when Hermione would mumble. Ignoring it for now, he brought up his earlier thought. “Would either of you happen to know where I got these clothes from?”

“You bought them…” Ron said simply. “You have more in your trunk. Personally, I think they look better than those you got from your cousin.” He gave a small smile.

“Yeah…” Harry replied, though he sounded more confused than happy, and just went up to his dorm.

When Harry was gone, Hermione turned to Ron. “Are you sure you should have told him he bought them? What happens if he sees some of the ‘not so nice’ outfits? What will he think of himself if he lost parts of his memory?”

“Would you have come up with something better without it making Harry suspicious?” Ron said back, a little annoyed that she was basically telling him he did something wrong. He didn’t need reprimand from her.

“Well, no…”

“Okay then.” He said and turned to walk up after Harry to their dorm. A few things was making him tense lately, he didn’t need Hermione to add to it.

“Wait.” Hermione said, grabbing his arm, successfully stopping him. She walked around in front of him. “Don’t be like this, please?” She laid her head on his shoulder and slipped her arms around him. “I’m sorry. It’s just that… it was just us this past summer. Harry didn’t want us anymore. He told us himself, and with something as careless as a letter. I don’t know why… I know you don’t know why… do you want him to remember what it was, to have him leave us again?”

Ron could feel a slightly dampness on his neck, and wrapped his arms around his girlfriend, pulling her slightly closer. “No…” he replied, and let Hermione silently let go of some of her pain.

Ron felt a weird tingling down his back. The same he gets when he feels someone watching him. He looked over Hermione’s head, around the common room for who it could be, but soon the tingling wore off, and he found no one, so he passed it off as nothing and continued to comfort Hermione.

“So how can we prevent him from abandoning us again?” Hermione asked so softly, Ron barely made out what she said.

“I don’t know…” ‘We’re not Slytherins, we suck at plotting.’ He added silently to himself.

***

“I told you already! It’s my decision to make, not yours. If I want to be with him, I will!”

Seamus’ voice trailed out from behind the closed dorm door. Harry sighed and entered, going straight to his bed and his chest, looking through it for what else he could have bought.

The two arguing boys seemed to not have noticed his entrance. “Fine! But keep your bloody poof arse away from me, away from my things, and keep to your side of the room.”

“Look, you have a problem with it, bring it up with Ron, he’s the one who told me to stay off Harry’s bed. And last night I didn’t have a chance to talk to Neville. He was already asleep; the only bed left was the one next to yours, so get over yourself. Just because I’m gay doesn’t mean I want to shag every guy, and just because I’m dating a Slytherin doesn’t mean a fucking thing, because you don’t know shite about him.” Before Dean could say anything, Seamus continued. “Or me, for that matter considering how your acting. Some bloody best friend thing we had, hm? It just tells me you were never that serious about friendships.”

Dean glared at his former friend. Then in a voice, much quieter than their previous volume, he spoke. “You’re quick to assume too, have you ever thought of that?” With that he left the room.

Seamus merely looked amused at that comment despite his earlier anger. Looking away from the door, that’s when he noticed Harry, going through his trunk, minding his own business. “Harry! You’re out! Are you okay?” He asked immediately before walking over, keeping his eyes on Harry, looking him over, as if to see if anything changed.

“I’m out, aren’t I? Well, it would be better if I could remember half the stuff that went on during the summer, and apparently the first couple days of school.” Harry said, holding up a shirt, reading what was on the front of it, looking confused, a little shocked, and a little amused.

“Shite.” Seamus said to himself.

A slow grin appeared on Harry face before handing the shirt to Seamus. “You want that?”

Seamus looked at the black shirt and read what was in green lettering before an amused smile took over his face. “’My Heart Belongs to a Snake?’ Well, apparently, that wasn’t something new. Your loss of memory isn’t as bad as it could have been then.”

Harry froze from his search in clothes. He could hear his heart pounding. Actually, now that he thought of it, he could hear Seamus’ heart beat too. The fuck? Passing that off for a later thought, Harry concentrated on what was just said. “I didn’t tell you… did I?” Harry dreaded what he was going to hear, but calmed down at Seamus’ answer.

“Sort of. But in case you’ve just forgotten what you’ve just obviously overheard, I’m ‘dating’ a Slytherin. Blaise Zabini in fact, so don’t worry about it too much with me. Tell you what, after you come out with your feelings for him, we can share the shirt.” He let a small smirk grace his features, one he must have adopted from spending time with the Slytherin, Harry thought.

“I have a feeling that will be quite some time considering he hates me, all he’s done in the past, what the others will think, his family, and that I don‘t think it‘s all that serious yet anyway… unless any of that’s changed in the past couple months, and I just can’t remember it.” He meant it as a light joke, but at the look in Seamus’ face, that may have been close to the truth.

“Mrs. Malfoy is the DADA teacher this year.” Seamus stated. “And she doesn’t want to be addressed as a Malfoy… so I think you can cross the family thing off your list.”

Harry sighed. “This sucks. And it’s all going to come bite me in the arse, isn’t it?” Without waiting for an answer he continued. “Anything else happen you feel you need to tell me?”

“Well, we started to actually be friends on the first day of school, so I know… a bit… but I don’t know if I can tell you without making it worse. I think the only thing I can safely tell you is that you also bought this music cube, and maybe if you listen to some of the songs you programmed on it, it might bring back some memories? Also, you had a backpack, but I’m not sure where you hid it. You didn’t talk to too many people, including Ron and Hermione. You said something weird was going on with them.”

“They told me they used to be angry, though they didn’t tell me why…” Harry stated before looking over the ‘music cube’. At Seamus’ instructions, Harry started listening to a random song. He put the music cube in his chest and closed and locked his chest, with a spell, only Harry knew the unlocking charm to, considering he made it.

Seamus gave Harry a small smile and went over to what used to be where Neville slept, which was obviously now Seamus’ bed. He threw off his shirt and pulled on the one Harry gave him. “I’m off to cause some slight chaos. Good luck with your memory.”

For some reason, Seamus sounded more sincere about it than Dumbledore had. “Tell Ron and Hermione I don’t feel like talking to anyone right now?”

“Sure thing, Harry.” Seamus said, before his smile widened, and he left Harry alone in the dorm room. Harry lay on his bed, turning up the volume of the song, trying to remember the gaps in his memory starting at the earliest.

***

Seamus bypassed Ron and Hermione in the common room, noting that they were talking to Dean. He started to head towards the Slytherin common room. He didn’t really care who saw him with this shirt, considering half the school knew by now.

Arriving at the entrance to the Slytherin common rooms, Seamus spoke the password before entering. He looked around the common room, happy to see his boyfriend sitting at one of the tables, biting his lip, concentrating on the book he was reading. Smiling slightly, Seamus silent made his way to Blaise from behind before bending down some, sliding his hands from the darker boy’s shoulders, down his chest. He rested his head against a shoulder, and kissed his boyfriend’s neck before speaking. “I was hoping to find you.”

At the first feel of hands on him, he stopped reading. As the hands slid down, he knew who it was, and let Seamus finish before taking his arm and bringing the boy around to the side of the chair. “Hey babe.” He said before standing and giving a quick kiss to his lips. “Nice shirt. Suits you well.”

Seamus replied to Blaise’s smirk with one of his own before getting straight to the subject. “I need to talk to you and Draco.”

Blaise nodded before leading Seamus to Draco’s room. Draco had stayed in his room for most of his free time since Harry was put in the infirmary. Other than every night he’d check up on Harry for a few minutes before he’d let himself attempt to go to sleep.

Blaise knocked on the door. “Draco, it’s us…” Seeing the wards fall (Seamus could only feel them fall), they entered.

Draco was sitting on the end of his bed with a small book in his hands. “I was just researching some things…” He closed the book and locked it, setting it on his bed behind him. Taking a glance at it, both Seamus and Blaise couldn’t tell what it had been about, considering the book had no words on the cover. It was a used looking black book.

“My mother gave it to me…” Draco trailed off, seeing his friends glance at it. He noticed Seamus‘ shirt, but didn‘t say anything on it. “So… did you come here for any particular reason?”

Seamus looked at Blaise before looking back at Draco. “Harry is out. But…”

Draco had stood up and was about to leave the room, when he heard the ‘but’. Sighing, stood still. Not wanting to sit back down again, just in case the news was good, instead of the bad he knew he would hear.

“He’s lost most of his memory of the past couple months.”

Draco sat down again, looking at the floor, not saying anything. He could feel a small despair settling in his stomach, but just gave a bitter laugh before muttering. “Figures.”

Blaise narrowed his eyes. “How dare that mother fucking meddling old fool. Finds out something he doesn’t like and decides to pull this shit, I highly doubt he was a Gryffindor when he went here…”

Seamus was nodding his head in agreement with Blaise before he said the last thought. In which case, he gave his boyfriend and amused look. “What does his house have to do with this?”

Blaise shrugged. “Just a thought. But seriously, he’s done enough. Shit man, we have another year to go before we can just dump this place, and that old man.”

“As for Harry… I don’t think it’ll be good to just unload what happened the first couple of days of school were… obviously something happened over the summer he needs to remember, and… I don’t think he remembers what he is. I remember on the first day, he wanted nothing to do with Ron and Hermione, and now, he’s not sure.”

“I just remembered!” Draco exclaimed looking up at his friends. “Mother was talking to me about vampires. Adrian did too. If he can’t remember what he is, he’ll certainly find out by the time this week is up. If he doesn’t feed for a week, he’ll end up almost out of control in search for it. More than likely, he’ll end up finding me, and won’t be satiated until he does…”

“Now, Draco, I’m sure you’re not saying you care if others get hurt.” Blaise stated with a small smirk.

“Of course not. I’m just happy because it’ll only be at most a week until he can’t deny me anymore. And I know he’s wanted me before he knew what he was…”

“How did you know? This shirt used to be his, by the way.” Seamus said the last sentence a little quieter.

Draco looked at the shirt again, smiling slightly. “I think I can have some fun with him… who knows it might trigger some memories.”

“What are you thinking, Draco?” Blaise asked.

“Nothing much, I just think some innocent flirting may be in line.” Draco’s small smile turned into a small smirk. “The least I can do is see if I can get him flustered.”

“I’m sure you can manage that.” Seamus said while Blaise just rolled his eyes slightly. “At that note, we’ll just leave you to plot.” Turning to Blaise, Seamus pulled on his arm, backing out of Draco‘s room. “Come, lover boy, let‘s get reacquainted with the meaning of this shirt.” Seamus winked at him before Draco’s door was closed and he turned to head up to Blaise’s dorm, Blaise traveling not too far behind him.

The main reason Draco had his own room was due to his veela part, making him the only one to have a room to himself. Which is why Seamus and Blaise had to waste some time kicking everyone out of the dorm room before they could make full use of Blaise’s bed. Oh, and the wall by the door.

***

That night, Draco fell asleep with scenarios of what could happen with Harry playing in his head. Harry slept while listening to his music, and trying desperately to remember things. He, fortunately, wasn’t interrupted by anyone.

Blaise and Seamus finally unlocked the door late in the night before Seamus snuck his way back to the Gryffindor common room and his dorm.

The Gryffindor student smiled to themself. So far, so good. Everything was going very nicely. Yes, pretty soon things would be perfect. Just the way they should be. The student would make sure Harry couldn’t remember the most important things. The student wasn’t quite a Slytherin, but there was a plan. There had been a plan for quite some time now. It was a great relief to finally be putting it into action. Not much longer now…
