All the introductions had been made and the trio had been roped into helping with the research. The library was far from quiet as ideas about how to get information from the veil were thrown about and rejected, but more often than not the noises were Harry and Ron asking Faith questions about being a slayer.
Sirius watched as Faith good-naturedly answered all their questions and joked around with the two teens, rolling her eyes and laughing with them when Giles and Hermione both told them to be quiet at the same time.
"Hermione, have you given any thought to what you want you want to do when you leave Hogwarts?" asked Willow half smiling as the studious young witch frowned disapprovingly at her friends,
"Yes, actually I'd love to teach," said Hermione passing Willow the book she'd just finished with to add to the pile of "˜nothing in this one' which was building up beside the two witches, who between them were quite a force to be reckoned with on the research front, not to mention two of the cleverest muggleborn witches in the world.
"Hmm, would you consider maybe coming back and training as a watcher? I mean, I know that it's not exactly in the wizarding world but Dumbledore and I are trying to build some form of alliance, where the wizarding world will hopefully accept the slayers and their watchers as allies."
Hermione's eyes lit up, "I'm honoured that you would ask me, I'll definitely give it some thought," she said, smiling.
"Good," Willow smiled at the girl who reminded her so much of herself. "If there's anything you want to know about the slayers or watchers feel free to ask me or Giles."
Hermione nodded and picked up another book.
Dumbledore returned from the school with more books for them research with. "I have arranged for us to visit the Ministry today Sirius. So I suggest we go sooner rather than later," he said, "I have added to your wards, Willow, so we will all be quite safe here."
Sirius turned to Harry, "I'm sorry to run off as soon as you get here, but I need to find out what's happening to my magic."
"It's fine, go," said Harry with a smile, "we'll stay here and do the boring stuff."
It was quickly decided that Giles and Andrew would stay behind with the trio, Willow and Remus would go back to Hogwarts to look through the restricted section of the library (which didn't like to be moved from its home), and Faith would accompany Sirius and Dumbledore to the ministry.
~*~
Faith decided right away that she loved floo powder. She stood in the lobby of the ministry, slightly smudged with soot and grinning, "Damn, that was some ride!" she said to Sirius who smiled at her reaction to magical travel.
"When I get my magic back I'll take you on a broomstick. Now That's a ride," he replied with a wink.
"Right then," said Dumbledore from behind them, "We need to go downstairs to the Department of Mysteries"
They followed Dumbledore down in the lift to level nine. They stepped out and were met by a woman in her late thirties; she had short blond hair and glasses and was dressed in plain black robes. She didn't introduce herself, just snapped, "follow me" then led them down the dark windowless corridor and through a door at the end to the circular room with twelve other doors.
"Geez you wouldn't wanna get lost down here huh?" Faith joked, although she wasn't smiling.
The woman held her wand out in front of her like she was divining water and turned slowly in a circle until her wand began to quiver in front of one of the doors. She lowered the wand and opened the door; gesturing for them to go in, "I will await you here," she said closing the door on them.
"Well, she's a hoot," Faith frowned, "what's her problem?"
"She's an unspeakable," explained Dumbledore, "Only those at the highest ministry level know what they do."
"Well I'm guessing they're not doing personality spells," Faith raised her eyebrows at Sirius who opened his mouth to make a smart remark, but the words died on his lips.
It was just as he remembered it, a dingy stone room with benches all around and steps leading down to a pit in the centre of the room. There stood the stone archway with the tattered black curtain hanging from it. Sirius shivered as he watched Dumbledore approach it with his head cocked to one side, as if listening to voices only he could hear.
Faith put her hand on Sirius's arm, "You okay?"
"Yeah, just remembering my last visit here." He looked at the curtain, which had began to flutter softly like a breeze was brushing against it, with something akin to fear on his face.
"C'mon." She slipped her hand in his and walked carefully down the steps to join Dumbledore.

In a bid to get the boys to do some serious work, Hermione told them about Willow's offer. She smiled when they looked very impressed.
"Wow Hermione, actually working alongside slayers, training them. That's great!" said Harry.
"If there wasn't so much homework to do I'd do it," said Ron sitting back in his chair.
"I thought we were going to train as Aurors," said Harry with an indignant huff.
"We are mate, but you don't get Aurors that look like Faith, or if you do I've never seen them."
Hermione scowled at him. "Oh really Ron, that's not a good enough reason."
"Yeah, but still," argued Ron, "anyway I think she's taken, if Sirius's attitude is anything to go by." He and Harry sniggered and Hermione just shook her head.
"What's so funny?" asked Andrew good naturedly coming out of the office
"Oh nothing Andrew," said Hermione. "These two are just jealous about Willows offer to me."
"Oh that's right, she said she'd asked you about training with the council," said Andrew, "Have you looked at any of the watchers diaries, they make fascinating reading, I'll show you where they are if you want?"
Hermiones eyes lit up at the prospect of reading all about the female warriors and was soon engrossed in the leather-clad tomes. It wasn't until hours later that she came upon the last of them, Buffy Summers and Faith written by Rupert Giles and Wesley Wyndam-Price.
The boys, who had given up research the minute Hermione's back was turned and were now playing exploding snap, both jumped when they heard the heavy thud of a book hitting the ground. They ran up the stairs to the comfy chairs at the entrance to the stacks where Hermione was sitting looking stricken.
"What's wrong Mione?" asked Harry worriedly looking at the pile of books on the floor.
"I think you need to show these to Sirius."
~*~
Faith was staring at the veil. She had heard the whispering voices almost at once; "Shit," she said, "What the hell is that?"
"I believe that it is a gateway to a power of some kind," said Dumbledore, trying to hear the whispered words.
"Like the powers that be?" asked Faith.
"Perhaps," Dumbledore turned to Sirius. "Tell me again, exactly, what happened when you fell."
As Sirius began to tell the story again, the voices got louder, no longer whispers. Sirius fell silent and the voices returned to whispers.
"I can't remember exactly" he said, "It's like a fog is clouding my mind."
Dumbledore turned towards the veil. "Tell me what happened to Sirius Black."
The tattered curtain lay still and then a womans voice whispered, "You do not make demands of us, Albus Dumbledore. The man.. Black is there with you."
"He is," replied Dumbledore as though the voice had asked and not just stated the fact, "But he cannot remember what happened and his learned magic is fading."
"That is no concern of ours," the curtain rose and fell with her voice, "We took him at his word and he is paying the price."
"My word, what word? The price for what?" shouted Sirius, turning his angry face to the veil, "I didn't do anything wrong"
"SILENCE!" A male voice thundered from behind the veil. "We do not have to speak to the likes of you, your magic will return, if and when we feel that you have proved yourself."
"I don't like this," said Faith, rubbing her arms as though she was cold. "They talk just like Angel used to say the Oracles did."
"I agree that this is bad," said Sirius "I need to get out of here Albus, I can't think down here."
"Go Sirius, Faith, go on and get some air. I will finish here and then return to the school. I have a feeling I know what is going on but I need to check some things first," said Dumbledore.
"You sure you're okay down here?" asked Faith a look of worry on her face,
Dumbledore just smiled and nodded.
Neither Sirius nor Faith needed telling twice, before they knew it they were out of the dimness of the ministry and out onto the sunny pavement, but back in the Department of Mysteries Dumbledore turned back to the veil, silently.
"We will say no more on the matter Albus Dumbledore, he is alive and he has found the slayer, the rest is up to him."
"I know what you have done. May I tell them about it?"
"If you feel it necessary, if you think it will aid the cause."
"I do."
"So be it. Call on us no more."
~*~
"Man that was freaky." Faith leaned against the phone box entry and rubbed her arms as if she was cold.
"Yes, it was," said Sirius, a shiver ran down his spine even though it was a warm day. "I don't want to go back to the council yet," he said as he straightened up, "I need a break from it." He looked over at Faith. "How about that tour of London that I promised?"
Faith looked at him, puzzled. "Aren't you worried about what just happened?"
He took her hands in his. "Please Faith, whatever's happening will still be there when we get back, I just want a few hours of fun."
She smiled softly, shaking her head, "Well shit, who am I to stand in the way of fun?"
His face lit up and pulled her to him, planting a quick kiss on her lips. "You're going to love it," he said grabbing her hand and pulling her out onto the bustling street.
~*~
Sirius and Faith walked into the library at the same time as Remus and Willow came through the fireplace. Giles came out of his office, "Any luck?" he asked.
"Not sure really," said Remus, "Dumbledore is back at the school, he said that he needed to get something, we should know more once he gets back."
"Well then, is there any chance of me getting a shower at some point during my stay here at slayer central? 'Cause if I didn't need one before I was dragged across London, then I sure need one now?" said Faith, trying to look grumpy at Sirius and failing when he gently nudged her and she laughed.
Willow smiled at them and said, "Come on Faith, you too Sirius. I did get rooms ready for your visit; you must be desperate to get out of those clothes. I know I am. Oh, that reminds me, there's a room ready for you as well Remus."
Sirius and Faith exchanged a look and Remus looked up from the astrological charts he was studying with a raised eyebrow, which caused Willow to blush furiously, "That's not what I meant," she mumbled.
"Sirius, can I have a quick word before you go?" said Harry as he; Ron and Hermione came out of the stacks.
"Sure," said Sirius, "I'll catch you up in a bit."
Faith waved him off with a smile as she followed Willow and Remus. They walked back to the foyer and up the marble staircase to what looked like a very long hotel corridor, with rich russet carpets, white painted woodwork and rows of doors along the cream coloured walls. Willow explained that the rooms had been put there for all the slayers and trainee watchers. She showed Faith to her room first, telling her that Sirius would be in the room next door.
"Good to know Will, thanks." Faith winked at the red head just before disappearing inside.
Willow and Remus walked down the hallway until Willow stopped at the last one. "This is yours," she said as she opened the door of the room.
Remus walked in first, taking in the small kitchenette, which looked out into a living area with bookcases and a sofa. There was a door, which led to the bedroom with a double bed, bedside cabinet, wardrobe and desk by the window, with another door leading to the bathroom. The whole set of rooms were white walled with the carpets, sofa and duvet all in sky blue.
"Are all the rooms like this?" he asked as he walked to the window of the bedroom, peering out onto the street below.
"Yes, why don't you like it?" asked Willow, her face falling a little.
"Of course I do. I was just thinking that these are more like flats than rooms and if every room is like this then the building must be huge," Willow just raised her eyebrows at him. He walked back to where Willow was standing in the doorway "Where are your rooms?" he asked softly,
Willows eyes widened slightly and she gave a nervous little laugh. "Oh, I'm next door in one of the cushy corner suites."
Remus brushed his hands over Willow's. "Look Willow, tell me if I'm out of order but"¦." He bent his head and brushed a light kiss across her lips.
Willow felt her stomach jerk as his lips met hers. "Nope, not out of order at all," she whispered, moving to press her body against his and feeling his smile as he kissed her again.
~*~
"What's up Harry?" asked Sirius, his voice happy and relaxed. He hadn't wanted his afternoon with Faith to end. He took her to all his favourite muggle places. They had wandered around the stalls in Covent Garden market, sat on the grass eating ice cream in Leicester Square and Faith even convinced him to go paddling in the fountain at Trafalgar Square after she saw a group of tourists doing it. She made him happy.
"What do you know about Faith, Sirius?" asked Harry quietly.
Sirius flopped down on the sofa, a smile coming to his face. "Faith? Gorgeous, strong, sexy, Slayer, good dancer, can hold her drink, why?"
"I think you need to look at this," said Hermione, holding out the diary.
Sirius gave them a puzzled smile but humoured them and began to read, the smile slowly fading from his face. "Is this a joke?" he asked, his eyes darkening, Hermione just shook her head.
Willow and Remus entered the library at the same as Dumbledore came through the fireplace. "I've found something," he said putting several heavy books down on the table. "Where's Faith, she needs to be here for this as well."
"Yes, what a good question Albus, where is Faith?" said Sirius, standing and turning, the book still in his hand.
"Oh goddess," said Willow worriedly looking at Giles, who gave her an "˜I don't know where he got it from' look.
"Sirius"¦" began Willow but at that moment Faith reappeared in jeans and a black t-shirt, her chestnut mane of hair still damp from her shower and curling down her back.
"Man, I think we need to burn those clothes," she joked, but with the silence that greeted her, she frowned, "Who died?"
"Interesting wording Faith," said Sirius, his voice empty of its usual humour. "Not as interesting as this though." He held the diary up for her to see, watching as the colour drained from the slayers face before it hardened into a blank mask.
"Fuck that." With a bitter laugh Faith turned and walked out of the library.
