Chapter Ten: Heirs, Sword, and The Death Of Draco.

The day of the Hogsmead visit arrived quickly for Hermione. Like promised Hermione left Hogwarts with Harry and Ron. Since Harry had been allowed by the Headmaster at the start of term it was much more fun. They went to the Three Broomsticks for tall foaming mugs of Butterbeer. Hermione heard from Ron that Draco had violated the contract and that he would be killed. Hermione wanted to snigger, but guessed that it would be rude so she didn’t. Professors Hagrid and Dumbledore entered and they sat at their table talking about Malfoy and the end of the Malfoy line.

“ Well I say he’s getting what’s coming to him,” Ron said. Dumbledore looked at him as though he didn’t believe that anyone should have their head chopped off. Hagrid asked how Snape was doing.
“ Well he was the one that told me to come with my friends, told me that I shouldn’t live my life around stone walls.” Dumbledore nodded his pleasure, his eyes twinkling. “ So how is Mrs. Lupin?”
“ Corking,” Hagrid boomed, making the customers look. “ Remus is so happy that he’s going to be a daddy, of course Madam Pomfrey told them that their child would not be a werewolf because the curse is only transferred by the bite, not by blood or anything else.”
“ Well I know that Professor Lupin was happy about that.” Hagrid nodded and Hermione took another drink of her Butterbeer.

When they had left they went into Honeydukes and got some sweets. Hermione got the most and then they headed back to the castle. Professor Snape was busy grading papers when Hermione walked in. She laid her stuff on the floor and put the candy on his desk.
“ Had fun?” He asked. Hermione nodded, and then she started to open her candy and eat them. She was lucky that she had such perfect teeth. She didn’t want pain to keep her from eating them. Ten minutes later he finished and for the rest of the day they spent it reading or talking about life without Lord Voldemort.

Meanwhile the man that they were talking about was busy plotting how to get inside Hogwarts castle. He knew that the wards protected it from being invaded, some dumb idea of Godric Gryffindor.
“ Wormtail what is being done about the wards?” Heed ted the small wizard.
“ I’m hoping that we will have the passwords soon, I was going to ask you permission to summon Severus.” Voldemort looked at him and then nodded. Wormtail left to send an owl to Snape.

The next day Snape had just left the shower when he saw the owl. He took the letter and opened it. His face turned the colors of the rainbow, which made Hermione believe that something was not right.
“ What’s wrong?” She asked.
“ Voldemort wants the passwords to the wards that surround the castle,” he told her. “ I don’t know them, only Dumbledore knows them.” ioneione face went white; if they found a way into the Castle then there would be nothing that would stop them from taking over the school.
“ What are you going to do?” Snape didn’t say anything, he took his cloak and left. Leaving a very confused Hermione.

“ Snowcaps,” Snape called. The Gargoyle hopped aside to let him pass. He went up the moving staircase and knocked on the door.
“ Enter,” Dumbledore called. Snape opened the door and dropped the note on the Headmasters desk. He read it and put it down. “ So he wants you to give him the passwords, Severus?” Snape nodded. “ What are you going to do?”
“ Headmaster my loyalty is to you and only to you,” he told him. “ I will never give him the passwords even if I knew them.” Dumbledore searched his mind and discovered that his mind was on a certain wife.
“ You care for her!” Snape nodded.
“ She has given me a reason to continue away from the Dark Side, I will never allow her to die at the hands of Lord Voldemort. She has too much ahead of her to allow herself to die. Even if she is a Muggle-born.”
“ She is not!” He told him. Snape looked at him, confused.
“ What do you mean she’s not?” Dumbledore got up and pulled the Sorting Hat from the shelf.

Snape didn’t understand why the old hat was so important to what was happening now. He sat down and looked at it, not speaking. Suddent spt sprang to life.
“ You called Headmaster!”
“ Yes I did,” Dumbledore replied. “ Tell Severus the truth when Hermione Granger put the hat on six years ago.”
“ Very well,” the hat told him. It turned to Snape. “ When Hermione Granger put the hat on I wanted to put her in Ravenclaw, but I didn’t.”
“ Why not?” Snape asked.
“ Because if the Dark Side got wind of Hermione Grangers talent they will kill to have her. She is the Heir of Ravenclaw, and the most powerful witch in the world.” Snape looked at the hat and then at Dumbledore.

“ What does this all mean?” He asked.
“ It means that Mrs. Snape is in terrible danger,” he told him. “ Hermione is destined to be more powerful then even me, and at such a young age. She needs to find the Sword of Ravenclaw before Voldemort gets inside the castle. I know that if you’re kept to long that Voldemort will suspect that there is something going on. Write back to him and tell hhat hat you will seek out the passwords. The hat is never wrong, and since in’t,n’t, then we know that Voldemort will be no match for her power.”

“ What can I do?”
“ Start the quest with her, and when she finds it then we will beable to defeat him once and for all.” Snape thanked him for the information and left. He headed back to his office and noticed that Hermione was hard at work on a Potion essay that he wanted finished by Monday. She looked up when he walked in.
“ So did you tell Dumbledore about the letter?” She asked putting her quill down.
“ Yes I did, and he told me something odd about you.” Hermione looked at him confused. “ He told me that the hat wanted to put you in Ravenclaw.” Hermione didn’t say anything, she had told Harry and Ron last year that the hat wanted to put her in Ravenclaw, but what did this have to do with the passwords. He seemed to sense that she was about to speak because he continued. “ He told me that you’re more powerful then Voldemort himself, and that you must find the Sword of Ravenclaw.”

Hermione didn’t know about such a sword, but since Dumbledore had mentioned it, it had to be true.
“ Where is such a sword?” She asked.
“ I don’t know,” Snape said shaking his head. That night Hermione couldn’t sleep; she kept thinking about everything that her husband and Dumbledore had said. If this sword were found then it would be the end of everything. She would be free of the terror and they could possibly consider having children. She wanted one so badly, but she knew as long as Voldemort out out there then that would never happen.

The next day the crowds outside the school watched the exicution of Draco Malfoy. It was sicking to see his head come off, but as Moody said, this was how thing worked.
