Family Tradition Part 10

Family Tradition

Disclaimer: I own Susana and Emily. That\'s all.

Part 10

Two weeks later -

Harry woke up alone. After putting his glasses on, he looked at the clock on his nightstand. It was only 4:30 in the morning. \"Susana?\" He called out.

Nothing.

He got out bed and walked into the sitting room. \"Su?\"

\"I\'m in the bathroom.\" She said weakly.

He walked in the bathroom to find his wife sitting on the floor, resting her head on the cool toilet seat. \"What\'s wrong, sweetheart?\"

Before she answered, she positioned her head over the toilet and once again emptied her stomach.

\"Susana, what can I do?\"

\"Go get my mom.\" She told him.

Harry didn\'t hesitate. He took off out of their chamber, shirtless and in boxers, and took every shortcut he knew to the Snape\'s chamber. Once there, he began pounding on the door.

Severus answered a minute later dressed in a red and blue plaid bathrobe. When he saw his son-in-law, he became worried. \"What is it?\"

\"Susana\'s sick. She wants her mum.\"

Snape led Harry into his chamber.

Emily met them in the sitting room. She was wearing a robe that matched her husbands. \"Don\'t tell me. Morning sickness?\"

Harry finally caught his breath. \"Is that what this is?\"

\"More than likely.\" She took in what her son-in-law was or rather wasn\'t wearing. \"Come on. We\'ll go through the staff entrance. Sev, you might want to brew some of your morning sickness potion.\" She threw back to her husband. \"Come on Harry.\"

Emily led Harry through the door that led to the staff quarters. She stopped at a door four from her own. \"Do you have your key?\"

Harry held his hands out at his side and looked down at his body.

She laughed. \"I guess not.\" Taking a deep breath, she pointed to the keyhole. \"Key!\" A jolt of electricity shot from her finger and the door opened.

They found Susana still in the bathroom on the floor leaning against the toilet.

\"Oh my poor baby.\"

She looked up at her mother. \"I don\'t feel so good, Mommy.\"

\"Welcome to the wonderful world of pregnancy, sweetheart.\" Emily got a washcloth and dampened it.

\"Pregnancy sucks.\" She looked up at Harry. Their eyes met and then he looked down at his feet. \"You can go back to bed if you want.\" She told him.

He shook his head. \"I don\'t think I could if I wanted to. Is there anything I can get for you? Tea?\"

Susana wretched again.

Her mother held her hair back. \"That might help a little until Severus gets the potion brewed.\"

Harry nodded and went into the kitchen. \'At least I\'m not completely useless.\' He thought to himself.

\"What kind of potion is Daddy brewing?\" Susana asked.

Emily blotted her face with the cold, damp cloth. \"It\'s to help alleviate some of your morning sickness symptoms. It doesn\'t cure it but it will help a bit. Trust me.\" She brushed her daughter\'s hair with her fingers. \"Do you think you can get up?\"

Susana nodded. \"I really need to brush my teeth.\"

~~~
Harry poured a steaming cup of tea for his wife and brought it to her in the sitting room. \"Are you feeling better?\"
She shrugged. \"A little. ... Come sit with me.\"
He move next to her on the burgundy and green striped couch and sat beside her.
Susana rested her head on his shoulder. \"I\'m sorry I woke you up so early on a Saturday. I should have known this was gonna start soon.\"
He just nodded.
Emily yawned as she came out of the bathroom. \"I\'m going back to bed. Your father should have your potion brewed by lunchtime.\"
Susana turned green at the thought of food. \"Thanks for coming, Momma.\"
\"No problem sweetie. Try and get some rest ... both of you.\" She kissed her daughter\'s forehead then Harry\'s and left.
Susana looked at the way her husband was dressed. \"You went to my parent\'s dressed like that?\" She grinned.
He nodded.
Taking a sip of her tea and looked at Harry. \"What\'s wrong?\"
He shook his head. \"It\'s nothing.\"
She put her teacup back on the end table. \"Harry, there\'s something bothering you.\"
He ran his fingers through his messy dark hair. \"I just ... Why did you want your mum to help you and not me? I could have held your hair and given you a damp cloth.\"
\"I know that, baby.\" She moved to sit in his lap and caressed his cheek with her hand. \"Truth be told, I was scared. I\'ve never been pregnant before. I don\'t know what\'s normal and what isn\'t. My mom\'s been there. I needed her assurance that everything\'s okay.\"
Harry rubbed her back. \"I\'m scared too you know. I\'ve never been a father and I sure as hell didn\'t have a role model to look up to. Uncle Vernon\'s idea of fatherly advice was for me to stay out of the way and pretend I didn\'t exist.\"
\"We haven\'t really spent a lot of time talking about your Aunt and Uncle.\" She brushed his bangs off of his forehead.
\"Yes, well, the Dursleys aren\'t my favorite topic of conversation. They\'ve treated me no better than a piece of chewing gum stuck on the bottom of a shoe. It\'s really hard to believe that I didn\'t die of neglect as a toddler.\" He laid his head on the back of the couch.
Susana bit her bottom lip. \"Are you going to tell them about us?\"
He sighed. \"I don\'t know.\" He lifted his head and took his glasses off so he could rub his eyes.
She took the glasses from his hand and placed them beside her teacup. She then straddled him. \"I think you should. I think that you should flaunt me in their faces and let them know that despite everything they did to you, you\'re happy.\"
Harry shook his head. \"It won\'t faze them. They\'ll only say nasty things about you and the baby.\"
\"I don\'t care about that.\"
\"I do!\" He said a bit too sharply and loud. \"Sorry. I didn\'t mean to shout. The Dursleys are a really sore spot for me.\"
\"I understand.\" She ran her thumbs over his forehead. \"If you never want to talk about them again, that\'s fine. We\'re your family now, the baby and me. I promise that we will always love you.\" Her lips gently caressed his.
~~~

Susana sipped the potion her father made her. \"I guess this is what they mean when the say the cure is worse than the illness.\" She stuck her tongue out and made a disgusted face.

Harry was down in the Great Hall with Hermione and Ron having lunch while she was spending time with her father in her chamber.

\"It\'s not a cure.\" Severus corrected. \"It will however ease your symptoms. In order to completely cure it I would have to add...\" He looked at her. \"But that would terminate your pregnancy.\"

\"Oh.\" She bit her bottom lip and looked away from him. \"Are you terribly disappointed in me, Daddy?\"

He wiped his hand over his mouth. \"It is not the life that I would wish for you, but it is nonetheless the life that was chosen for you.\"

\"I\'m gonna have a good life.\"

\"Have you seen something?\" Her father asked.

I\'m hungry.\" She jumped off the couch suddenly. \"Care to join me in Great Hall for lunch.\"

He knew that she, like her mother, didn\'t like talking about that particular gift. So he smiled at her sudden burst of energy and hunger. The potion was doing its job. \"Thank you, but I\'ll have to pass. Your mother insists on cooking for me.\"

Susana winced. \"You poor, poor man.\"

~~~
Harry hadn\'t said a word since he sat down for lunch. His thoughts were on his becoming a father. A tiny person was going to be dependent upon him to make sure that nothing would happen to him or her.
\"Oy Potter!\"
He turned at the sound of Malfoy\'s voice.
\"What do want?\" His voice was annoyed.
\"The little wifey tired of you already?\" He taunted.
\"Go away, Malfoy.\" Harry said through gritted teeth.
\"What\'s the matter, Potter? Can\'t keep her satisfied?\"
\"He keeps me very satisfied. Unlike you. I overheard Pansy telling Millicent that your prick was about as big as baby gherkin. You know, one of little pickles. About this big.\" Susana held up her little finger and then took her seat next to her husband and kissed him. \"Sorry I took so long.\" She told Harry. \"Daddy and I were having a nice father/daughter chat.\" She noticed Draco was still there, his face turning red. \"You can go now.\"
He stormed off muttering under his breath.
\"Are you feeling better?\" Harry asked his wife.
\"Much. Daddy\'s potion\'s supposed to work for two weeks so hopefully we won\'t have a repeat of this morning\'s bathroom fun.\" She looked at the selection of foods on the table. \"I\'m so hungry.\" She put a little bit of everything on her plate.
Everyone appeared to be staring at her.
\"What?\" Susana asked.
Before Ron could comment, Hermione silenced him with an elbow to his ribcage.
\"I haven\'t eaten since last night and I was sick all morning. I\'m starving.\" Susana noticed that her parents entered and sat at the head table. She laughed. \"Looks like my mother\'s cooking hasn\'t improved any.\"
~~~

Later, Susana was sitting on the couch studying for her Potion\'s test while Harry was napping with his head in her lap.

Suddenly, a snowy white owl entered through the window. It was Hedwig. She landed on the arm of the couch and began pulling Harry\'s hair with her beak.

His eyes opened slowly. \"What is it?\" He asked his wife.

\"That\'s not me, honey. Your owl\'s here.\"

Harry sat up. \"What do you have for me, girl?\" He untied the envelope from her leg. \"There\'s bread on the counter.\" He told her as he opened the note. His face grew confused.

\"What\'s wrong?\"

He ran his hand through his hair. \"It\'s from my grandparents. They saw our wedding announcement in the Daily Profit.\"

\"I wasn\'t aware that you had grandparents.\"

He shook his head. \"Neither was I. Aunt Petunia told me that they were dead.\" He blew out a breath through his nose. \"I need to speak with Dumbledore. If my grandparents are alive, then why didn\'t know? Why did I have to grow up with the Dursleys?\"
