Potter was clearly horrified by the situation. He looked at Hermione, looked at Severus, and said, “You won’t get away with this. I’m going to see Professor Dumbledore straight away!” He spun on one foot and started running.
Severus didn’t bother to go after him. He fastened his pants, and turned to Hermione. With a wave of his wand, she was again fully dressed, albeit disheveled. They looked as if they’d been for a roll in the hay, but there was no time for further primping. Severus reached over and clutched her hand, leading her quickly out of the room.
They reached the entrance of Dumbledore’s office in record time. “Fizzing Whizzbee,” Severus stated, and they ran past the gargoyle and up the stairs. From around the corner, they could hear Harry’s frantic, breathless voice. From the sound of it, he’d taken the long way up.
“...forcing himself on her, sir, I think he had her under Imperius. She seemed to be convinced she... liked it or something.” Harry sounded ill.
“Albus.” Severus entered the room, still firmly grasping Hermione’s hand.
“Mr. Potter has just come to see me with some... concerns about Ms. Granger.” Hermione turned to Harry and smiled sheepishly. He met her with a look of utter confusion.
“We’ve been meaning to discuss this with you for some time now, Albus. May we speak with you,” he glared at Harry, “in private?”
“Harry, please let me have a moment alone with Miss Granger and Professor Snape. Also, pleaass ass by Professor McGonagall’s office and tell her she’s needed here at once.”
“Yes, Professor.” He shot one more hateful glare at Snape before skulking out. Hermione mouthed ‘sorry’ as he walked away, and he nodded. Dumbledore turned to Severus.
“Is there something you wish to tell me?” Dumbledore asked, and Severus began explaining, about how he and Hermione felt, their engagement, how they’d planned to marry at the end of the school year. He left out the part about impending parenthood, as they hadn’t even discussed it themselves.
Dumbledore looked at Hermione, his eyes serious but warm. “Is there anything else?”
“I’m pregnant,” she blurted, and burst into tears.
“Oh, dear.” Professor McGonagall swept into the room, put her arm around Hermione, and shot an incensed look at Severus.
“Well, what I was going to suggest to Hermione, before we were... interrupted...”
“Oh, that was a discussion? Mr. Potter led me to believe quite the contrary.” Albus said softly, but his eyes twinkled. If Hermione didn’t know better, she’d think Dumbledore was amused by the situation.
“I was going to suggest that we marry over Christmas instead. I’m prepared to leave my post, if need be.”
“That won’t be necessary, Severus. It’s happened several times before, and I’m sure you two won’t be the last. Honestly, haven’t you ever read ‘Hogwarts, A History?’”
Hermione began to calm down. Minerva, still shooting angry glances at Severus, offered to help Hermione in any way with her arrangements. Dumbledore admonished them to exercise more discretion with their liaisons, causing both to blush furiously. As he ushered them out, he smiled at Minerva, who looked sternly at him.
“Really, Minerva, I’m thrilled that Severus is finally settling down. Perhaps he’ll finally be happy.”
“Yes, Dumbledore, and perhaps I should have taught Miss Granger to transfigure her tampons into pocket watches. Then maybe her period would have been on time!” She turned and walked huffily out of his office, while he quietly chuckled at that version of her popular admonishment to tardy first years.
