Chapter 10

Chapter 10

Severus was in heaven, or at least the closest he would
ever come to heaven. He was holding Hermione in the middle of the rose garden.
He had kissed her, which shocked both of them, but the most shocking to Severus
was that she had kissed him back, and asked for more. Her kisses were
extraordinary. The taste and feel of her still lingered on his lips. If he could
kiss her every minute of every day he would be able to look in the Mirror or
Erised and only see himself. He squeezed her tighter when he felt her shift.
Neither spoke, not wanting to infringe on the moment.

A breeze softly blew, enveloping the couple with the smell of roses. He had always
loved the smell of roses; this gave him reason to love it more. Now, every time
he used rose petals in a potion he would think of the beautiful woman in his
arms. Hermione. The past few days have been both heaven and hell. Watching her
try to overcome this tragedy was hell, but holding her, reading to her, and now
kissing her was heaven. He softly kissed the top her head and she snuggled into
his chest further. She giggled lightly.

“What’s so funny?” he asked.

“No, nothing. I was just thinking.”

“About?”

“How if someone would have told me eight years ago that I would be sitting curled up
in the rose garden with Severus Snape, I would have registered them into St.
Mungo’s myself.”

“And have them tied up in a padded room…” he laughed.

She could feel the timber of his laugh against her cheek. It felt wonderful and
sounded even better. “I like the way you laugh,” she confessed. “It’s not one of
those little chuckles, but not quite a guffaw. It takes a lot to get you to
laugh, but when you do, its… perfect.” She whispered the last word.

He squeezed her tighter. “You’re the one who’s perfect, Hermione.” He whispered in
her ear, sending shivers down her spine. She blushed. “Are you sure, you are all
right with this… with me?”

“Severus, this is amazing, you are amazing. You have
completely floored me over the past few days. You have not failed to surprise
me. I must confess something, though…” she trailed off.

“Yes?”

“Ihadacrushonyouasastudent,” she mumbled.

“OK, my translation of gibberish may be a little rusty, but did you just tell me you
had a crush on me as a student?” She nodded. “Well, I can’t say that anyone has
ever told me that one before. I was always the ‘greasy git’ or as you and Lupin
usually say, an ‘insufferable bastard.’” He leaned down further toward her ear.
“But as you confessed, I must follow suit. You entranced me even then.” He
dropped a kiss on her cheek before continuing. “I apologize for treating you so
badly over the years. It was my way of not letting you closer than I could
handle. You know that some of my cruelty was because of my status with
Voldemort, but I was overly cruel, for my own personal reasons.”

She smiled and raised her hand to softly caress his cheek. “I know,” she whispered
and kissed him softly. “You have plenty of time to make it up to me,” she
grinned mischievously before she captured his lips again.

A low grumbling interrupted their bliss. “I think we missed breakfast,” she said,
responding the loud protests her stomach was making.

“I think you are correct, Miss Granger,” he said as he stood up, taking her hand in
his. “Would you like to grab a bite in Hogmeade, and maybe do a little shopping?”

She stiffened noticeably. “Hermione?”

“I… I can’t go there y…yet,” she stammered as she fiercely shook her head.

He sat back down next to her, and took both hands in hisermiermione, are you
embarrassed by me?” his voice was soft anak, ak, like a small child’s.

“No, no, Severus. I am not embarrassed by you, why would I be? I just can’t have
people see me like this,” she gestured toward the flesh covering her eyes. “I
don’t like being the center of attention. I don’t want to be pitied or mocked.” Oh, Oh, Hermione. I’m sorry. I guess I didn’t think. I’ve gotten so used to it, that I
don’t even notice it anymore.” She smiled. “What about a glamour?”

Her smile faltered. “What do you mean?”

“I can cast a glamour over your eyes, make them look like they used to, then no one
would ever know the difference. Can I try?”

“But you need a reference to what you are doing, right? How are you going to know if
they look right?”

“Hermione, I looked at you every day for seven years. I have looked at you every day
for the past six weeks,” he took a deep breath. “I see your eyes in my dreams. I know
exactly what they look like. I could never forget them.”

Her mouth dropped open as she sat there dumbfounded. She nodded her assent. He
pulled out his wand and softly said the incantn. “n. “Gods, you’re beautiful,”
he whispered breathlessly and kissed her forehead. “Honestly, it doesn’t matter
whether you have the glamour or not, you are beautiful either way. Now lets go
get a bite.” He said standing up and helping her to her feet.

They walked in silence down the road to Hogsmeade, both in their own thoughts.

“Hermione?”

“Yes, Severus?”

“I promise you, that I will find something to restore your sight. I won’t stop
until I find it.”

She stopped walking and pulled him to her. Her arms wrapped around him as she buried
her face in his chest and hugged him. “I know, Severus. I know.”
