Chapter Ten
“What with?” Severus asked, feeling his anger rise.
“A potion called Liquid Crucio,” she muttered. “Not fatal, it can bring on pain that is just as bad as the curse itself. Unfortunately, Miss Granger was hexed for what I was told was several hours by Bellatrix LeStrange, as you might have known…”
“I didn’t,” Remus whispered, holding Teddy all the tighter.
“And since that…woman was rather fond of that particular curse, chances are that Miss Granger has scarring, which is increasing her pain.”
“She told me that it was getting worse,” Severus muttered.
“The potion builds in the person’s body,” Poppy answered. “Find what she consumes on an everyday basis. Hair and skin care products as well. Anything she comes into contact with and uses, we need to test.”
Severus looked over to Remus, who cleared his throat and said, “I’ll reschedule my appointment. Give me a moment to do that and find someone to look after Teddy, I’ll be help.”
“I have someone who can look after Teddy,” the potions master said.
“Who?” Remus asked.
Severus took up Teddy and handed him straight over to Poppy. “It’s just for the next hour or so. We’ll have everything tested by then.”
“I can’t,” she told him. “But Luna Lovegood should be here to help out. She has a good head on her shoulders and can more than handle taking care of this beautiful boy. Isn’t that right, handsome?” she asked looking straight over to Teddy who giggled and gave her a gummy grin.
Severus went back over to Hermione, stroking her head. She opened her eyes and smiled. “I need to know what you eat, drink, use on your skin, and hair.”
Frowning, Hermione asked, “Everything?” She closed her eyes again and proceeded to tell him everything that she consumed on a daily basis. When she was done, she opened her eyes again. “I was poisoned?”
Severus leaned closer, whispering, “We are going to find it and the person that did this.”
“Am I dying?”
“No,” he breathed. “It’s just going to hurt for a time, but Poppy will be cleansing your blood of it and you’ll be fine.”
She reached out and stroked his face with a shaking hand. “I’ll be here when you come back.”
Giving her a hard, brief kiss, he got up and walked out of the medical wing. Remus was on his heel soon and was telling him, “I called George and Fred. They’re both on their way over to help.”
“You can speak to Mr. Potter and the rest of Gryffindor. Question them along with the Ravenclaw students. I will have Minerva speak to Slytherin and Hufflepuff. Any questions?”
“Who would do something like this to her?” Remus asked.
“Given what she’s been doing, we’re lucky no one has tried to kill her yet,” Severus muttered. “I’m going to collect samples and do testing while you are doing that.”
“What do you want George and Fred to do once they get here?”
“Have them go over and keep Hermione safe. Until we know what’s going on, no one goes near her.”

It took hours, but it was finally found in her leave in hair conditioner as well as her tea that she drank daily. After Severus did away with them, he went straight over to the hospital wing. The twins were playing chess near the entranceway with a casual ease that left those who should be walking in think they were less than diligent in their guard duties.
Severus looked at them for a time before saying, “Lovely imagery you have. What do you call it?”
Fred came up behind him and said, “We call it a magical hologram. Hermione told us all about the 3-D photography and what was involved. George and I thought we could do better.”
“It appears that you have,” Severus said quietly, turning to look towards Hermione. “How is she?”
“Better,” George was the one to answer this time, coming over to join them. “The pain made her tired though and she’s been resting now for an hour.”
“Did you find it?” Fred asked him.
“Yes, that I did.”
“And the person who did…” Severus shook his head no.
Sighing they watched as the headmaster went over to the sleeping woman, caressing her hair out of her face. Hermione’s eyes fluttered open, looking up into his. She was still too fatigued to think much and closed her eyes as she rubbed her face against his hand.
“Hermione?” Severus whispered.
“Hmm?”
“Will you move into my rooms with me?” he asked her quietly.
Her eyes opened, looking at him in shock. “But the rules state no unmarried females can house with unwed males.”
He nodded. “I know, but you’ll have your own space and I’ll feel that you are in a safer place.”
She was silent for a time before whispering, “You do realize that if I move into your rooms that I have no intention of sleeping in a different bed than you?”
“I’m very well aware of that,” he breathed.
“Good,” she murmured, her eyes sliding shut.
Leaning down he brushed her hair off of her forehead, kissing her brow. He felt as she sighed and slid her hand to his neck, rubbing the slope of it into his shoulder. He rested his head against her cheek, nuzzling her ear.
“Do I have to stay here the night?” she breathed.
“For just a bit longer,” he assured her. “And then I’ll take you to our rooms.”
Hermione’s body relaxed a bit more, curling her fingers into his hair for a moment.
“Have you eaten at all?” she asked quietly.
“No, not yet,” he murmured, pulling back slightly.
“You should go eat,” she told him, letting out another long sigh. “And get some rest. You work too hard, Severus.”
He felt as she fell asleep. Quietly he joined her on the cot, spooning up next to her. Wrapping his arms around her, he buried his face into her hair, and joined her in slumber.

It's time for the Review Sing-A-Long! Yesterday's answer was "Anything, Anything" by Dramarama (and assorted other bands none of which I personally know). Cookies go out to makaem, Nemesis, and Jade! If I missed you, I'm sorry.
Now for the next song on our hit parade. "One, cut a hole in the box, two, put your review that box" Greatly offensive and damn funny, this song won an Emmy award. There it is. Your hint. Thanks for reading! Have a great day!
