Chapter Ten
Hermione had been out of sorts from the moment she woke the next morning. She felt achy, she couldn’t seem to stomach anything other than crackers, and for some inexplicable reason she wanted to do nothing more than to find a dark warm hole with plenty of bedding. She pushed it out of her head as she went back over to where the others had taken up looking at the law books again. She went over their notes and was able to come up with an idea for a writ for releasing the prisoners.
She was in the middle of writing it when she heard Severus Snape arrive via the floo in the room she was in. He went over to her and placed a hand on her belly.
“Are you in labor?” he asked.
“I might be,” she told him, as what he said made sense. “Pre-labor is a given.” She looked over to him. “What are you doing here? Don’t you have a school to run?”
“Holidays,” he told her, taking up the seat next to her. “They are back in that place I couldn’t speak of before. It is…” He paused. “It is bad.”
She nodded, as she kept writing. “What did you tell me when my teeth were charmed to grow?”
“I see nothing.”
“What grade did I receive during my second year in my finals?”
“They weren’t given,” he told her. “Everyone automatically passed that year much to my as well as your upset, but I dare say we were the only ones so bothered by this even if it were for different reasons. Seeing if I am whom I say? You could do better, can you not?”
“Apperate to the other side of the room,” she told him.
“Anti-apperation wards would prevent that.”
“True,” she said, looking over to him. “Tell me of the Half Blood Prince.”
This had him nodding. “I am he.”
“Then you can tell me all about the changes you made in the fifth year potions text on page fifty.”
This had him laughing to himself even as he was answering her question. He said afterwards. “Why the apperation?”
“Those guards? Have them go someplace. Any place, just as long as they apperate there. They will stop being a problem.”
“How so?” he asked.
“They are doppelgangers. They will be too dead to care after they apperate.”
“Ahh, the Gryffindor know it all proves herself again,” he murmured. “What are you up to with your scribbling?”
“Making a writ of release of the prisoners currently being held in Azkaban,” she told him. “Focusing on the ones that are being accused of being traitors for helping the werewolves escape.” She stopped writing to look over her words. “This should do it.” She handed it over to him and waited for him to respond.
“This is…” He looked back over to her. “It is a riddle!”
She nodded. “But it is very legal and it is substantiated by the law of the Ministry. It cannot be argued with.”
“They would be too confused to do so,” he muttered. “Who is presenting it?”
“The only person I know that can and will do it justice,” she said, looking over to see Lord Lucius Malfoy walk into the room in all his finery. “Here, it’s ready and just in time.”
He took it and looked it over. A slow smile graced his lips as he said, “You should have been a Slytherin, my dear. Go back to rest. You will be going into labor before you know it.”

Hermione was lying in bed when she felt the bed dip. Arms went around her and she opened her eyes. Looking over she saw Sirius there. He was so thin it hurt her to see it. She gently rubbed his back as he sobbed into her shoulder. As soon as he was done, Hermione had him help her out of the bed and they went over to the bathroom. Once there she cleaned up his face whispering the entire time that they were going to fix what they could. However way they could do it. She walked him over to the dining room, having to stop once or twice.
“The baby is coming soon,” he murmured, rubbing her back.
“Yes, I figured that out,” she muttered, and heard him laugh for the first time. It was a weak chuckle, but it was a joy to hear. “Remus should be here for this!” She allowed herself to cry then.
Sighing heavily, he took her into his arms and said, “We are going to get them all back, luv. Just you see.”
“I know,” she whispered. “Let’s stop these waterworks of mine. Hormones aside, I’m getting tired of doing a bad imitation of a spring shower.”
Laughing, he helped her over to the dining room.
“And Merlin help me if I sneeze,” she muttered. “You don’t even want to know about those showers.”

Hermione was getting to the point of wanting to move the bed she was using into the large bathroom as the only two things she seemed to be doing is sleeping and peeing. Rubbing the small of her back as she was walking back out of the bathroom, she stopped at the sight of all of her friends and the others standing against the wall with masked wizards pointing their wands at them. And off to the side was none other than Fleur, Bill’s ex-wife.
“What es thees?” the French woman asked, looking at Hermione with an awakening anger.
“I would have thought that it would be obvious,” the younger witch stated. “I’m pregnant.”
The blond girl looked at her still in shock. “It es not Bill’s!”
“Seeing as my mate is Remus, no it isn’t.”
Fleur frowned as she muttered, “But I thought…you and Bill…” But then she snapped out of it as she said, “Et doesn’t matter! You will not spoil my plans.”
“I might not,” Hermione said, her hand going to her lower belly as liquid seemed to gush down her legs past her nightshirt. “But my baby might.”
