Chapter 10

Love of a Phoenix

Chapter 10

Hermione woke up on Saturday with a feeling of foreboding. She couldn’t place it, but knew something was going to happen and something bad. She grabbed a shower, dressed and headed down fore breakfast. She found Harry, Ginny, and Ron already there. Ron still hadn’t apologized to her for slapping her. Albus had given him a week of detention for slapping at her and Molly had sent a Howler the day after.

“Morning Mione.” Harry greeted.

“Morning.” Hermione said.

“What’s wrong?” Ginny asked. “Something’s wrong. I can see it in your eyes.”

“I don’t know Gin. I woke up and I can’t shake the feeling that something is going to happen. Something bad.” Hermione sighed.

“You’re becoming paranoid. Just like that greasy git.” Ron mumbled.

“Ronald, I don’t know what it is you have against him, but stop making those comments. You’re starting to piss me off. Not to mention you are insulting me because I am his assistant and your comments reflect on me as well.” Hermione shot back at him.

“It’s what you deserve! You’ve betrayed your house by becoming his assistant in the first place! No self respecting Gryffindor would agree to be the assistant of a Slytherin!” Ron yelled.

“Well, this self respecting Gryffindor did! If you don’t like that then tough! I’ve made my choice and if you can’t accept that, then I guess you’re not my friend after all!” Hermione cried.

“Then we’re no longer friends!” Ron screamed.

Hermione nodded. She stood up, bid Harry and Ginny good day and walked out of the Great Hall. Like the week before, everyone was staring at her and Ron. Draco watched with interest. Just that morning he had received a letter from Voldemort telling him that Voldemort would be coming to Hogwarts and it had something to do with Hermione.

Hermione spent the day in the gardens. As the day wore on, she felt the Darkness within her growing more restless. She was finding it harder to control it. “I can’t loose control.” She said out loud.

In the shadows, Voldemort and Draco hid and watched her. Voldemort had sensed that she was a Phoenix. He knew if she could be brought to his side and the Darkness unleashed, nothing could stop him.

“What now my Lord?” Draco asked.

“We provoke her. Make her loose control.” Voldemort answered.

Draco smiled evilly. He knew exactly how to do it. He would play on the rift between her and Weasley. If that didn’t provoke her, nothing would. “Leave it to me. I know how to do it.”

“Then do it. Make sure it happens at dinner. I will know and enter the Hall at the right time.” Voldemort instructed.

Draco nodded and snuck back into the castle. Voldemort continued to study Hermione as she sat among the flowers, trying to calm the Darkness that was growing stronger and stronger within her.

‘Soon, she will join me and help me defeat the light. Then, I will decide what to do with her after the war has ended.’ Voldemort thought evilly.

Ron was making his way to dinner when he passed Draco, Pansy, Crabbe and Goyle in the hallway. What he heard, had him seeing red.

“Now we know why the mudblood was picked for Snape’s assistant. She must be a really good lay.” Pansy said.

“I was passing the classroom last night and could have swore I heard her and him going at it. Her screwing Snape would explain why she has such high marks in his class.” Draco added.

Ron’s face grew red in anger as he stormed toward the Great Hall. The four Slytherin’s laughed and quickly hurried to dinner as well. They had just entered the hall, when the shouting match began between Hermione and Ron.

“It’s true isn’t it! That’s why you’re his assistant isn’t it!” Ron yelled as he approached Hermione.

“What are you going on about now Ronald?” Hermione sighed as she continued to eat her dinner.

“You’re screwing him aren’t you!” Ron cried.

“What?!” Hermione asked in confusion.

“That’s why you’re his assistant! You’re screwing him!” Ron roared.

By now, the anger in Hermione was growing out of hand. “Stop it. Stop it.” She gasped as she felt the Darkness rising up within her.

“How could you stoop so low! He’s a Slytherin!” Ron yelled.

“STOP IT!” Hermione screamed jumping to her feet, as a burst of energy shot out from her body, knocking Ron to the other end of the hall.

“Oh god! Severus, look at her!” Aurora gasped.

Severus looked at Hermione. An unseen wind was fanning her hair as she stood there breathing heavily. It was then he caught sight of her feet. Black flames, barley visible if one wasn’t looking for them, could be seen around her ankles.

“The flames Aurora. How do we calm her down?” Severus asked worriedly.

“I don’t know. I’ve never felt this much energy from a Phoenix. Light or Dark.” Aurora answered fearfully.

By now, all the students were staring at Hermione in fear and shock. When she began floating a foot off the ground, the students began running for the teachers for protection. The staff stood between Hermione and the students. At that moment, Voldemort entered the hall.

“Ha. Ha. Ha. She’s quite a beauty isn’t she?” Voldemort laughed.

Hermione spun around and stared at him. “What do you want?” Hermione asked, her voice deeper and darker than normal.

“I merely want to help you Hermione. All they want to do is restrict you and your powers. I can give you freedom. That’s what you want isn’t it?” Voldemort answered.

“You think you can offer me freedom? I don’t need you for that,” Hermione said.

“But you do need some kind of protection until you come into your full powers. I can offer you that,” Voldemort replied.

Hermione just looked at Voldemort as she floated in midair. She then nodded as she began to lower to the floor. Just then Severus jumped to his feet and began slowly making his way to her.

“Hermione. Don’t do this. This isn’t you,” Severus said.

Hermione spun around and faced Severus. “How do you know what’s me and what’s not? You think that because you and Hermione have consummated your relationship that you can save her. HA! HA! HA! HA! She’s lost to you Snape. Because you are our mate, I can’t kill you,” The Phoenix within Hermione said, finally taking complete control.

“You can’t have her! I’ll kill you myself! LET HER GO!” Severus yelled.

“Give it up Severus, she’s with me now. Come my dear, we have things to discuss,” Voldemort smiled.

The Phoenix turned and walked over to Voldemort. Severus broke into a run to reach Hermione. A few feet from her, The Phoenix spun around, extended her hand and blasted Severus into a nearby wall.

“Tell him his precious Hermione is gone Aurora,” The Phoenix said evilly.

The Phoenix and Voldemort walked out of the Great Hall. Once gone, Aurora, Minerva, Poppy, and Albus rushed to Severus’ side.
