Chapter 9- A Time of Relaxation
Love…War…What’s the Difference?
A Time of Relaxation
Two days later, the DAILY PROPHET ran the story. Just as everyone hoped, it generated a huge amount of support for the Order, as well as Severus for all the years he served as a spy. Hermione sat with Harry and Ginny, who had read the article out loud to them over breakfast.
“Wow. Isn’t this kind of risky?” Ginny asked after she finished reading the article.
“Yes, but hopefully this will help the Light and keep Voldemort on his toes,” Hermione answered.
“You two just be careful. Okay?” Harry said.
“We will Harry,” Hermione smiled.

Severus sat his desk grading papers when there was a knock on the door. “Enter!” he called out.
Harry walked in and closed the door behind him, then placed a silencing spell on the door. Severus sat down his quill while Harry sat down at the desk in front of Severus.
“It’s past curfew Mr. Potter,” Severus said.
“I know sir, but there’s something I wanted to talk to you about,” Harry replied.
“Go on,” Severus insisted.
“It’s about Hermione. I know you love her and she loves you, I don’t doubt that. What I want to know is, what are your plans for the future with her?” Harry asked.
Severus studied Harry for a moment. He sighed as he stood up and walked around to the front of his desk. He grabbed a stool and sat down in front of Harry. Neither spoke for a moment or two as they just stared at each other.
“Why are you so interested in our relationship?” Severus questioned.
“Simple. Hermione’s my best friend and I love her like a sister. I just want to know she’ll be taken care of,” Harry answered.
“I see. You don’t need to worry about Hermione. What I’m about to tell you, doesn’t leave this room. You can’t even tell Miss Weasley,” Severus said.
“I promise not to tell a soul,” Harry vowed.
“On Christmas Day I’m planning on asking Hermione to marry me,” Severus stated.
“Wow. Don’t you think it’s a bit soon?” Harry questioned in surprise.
“No. I can’t explain it. I feel in my heart that Hermione is the only woman for me,” Severus explained.
“Then I wish you luck,” Harry smiled.
“Thank you. If she says yes, she will never want for anything. I am a very wealthy man. I teach because, believe it or not, I do enjoy it. Whatever Hermione wants, she will have it,” Severus said.
“What if she wants children?” Harry asked.
“I would love for Hermione to be the mother of my children,” Severus replied with a soft smile.
“Then Hermione will be in good hands. That’s all I care about,” Harry stated.
“I wish I had friends like you and Miss Weasley. Then I might have turned out differently,” Severus smiled.
“I don’t know. I think you turned out all right,” Harry chuckled.

“I want them eliminated! All three of them!” Voldemort yelled.
“But how? Lucius is hidden and we have no idea where. Snape and the mudblood will no doubt be watched by Dumbledore since the attack in Hogsmeade,” Crabbe Sr. pointed out.
“Then find a way! This article has gathered support for the Order. We need to make a move now,” Voldemort hissed.
“My Lord, I don’t doubt that Lucius is at Hogwarts. Dumbledore is the only person who would have given him a chance,” Narcissa said.
“That means he knows about Draco. I will write our son tonight and give him instructions. For now, I guess we will have to wait,” Voldemort stated.

November faded into December. The Hogsmeade trip before the Christmas holidays found Lucius and Severus riding through Muggle London. Lucius saw Severus was extremely nervous as they rode in the taxi.
“Okay, what’s wrong?” Lucius asked as they climbed out of the cab.
“Lucius, I’m buying an engagement ring,” Severus said.
“Ah. You’re scared she’ll say no,” Lucius smiled.
“Yes,” Severus replied.
“She won’t. Trust me,” Lucius reassured his friend.
“Welcome to Harry Winston. How can I help you?” the sales lady greeted.

The next weekend, the Christmas Holidays began. Hermione remained at Hogwarts, while Ginny and Harry returned to the Burrow. Luckily, only a dozen students were staying. One of them was Draco. Pansy too was staying, but only to watch Draco.
Hermione was in the lab working on her potions when Severus walked in. It was three days before Christmas. He just leaned against the door jamb and watched her as she worked.
“How’s the potion coming?” he asked.
“Perfectly. I add the last ingredient on Christmas Eve and then it will be finished,” she answered excitedly.
“That’s wonderful. My potion will be completed by New Year’s Eve,” he smiled as he sat across from her.
“So, what’s on the agenda for the day?” she questioned as she began cleaning up her work area.
“I thought we could spend the afternoon here. Just us,” he suggested.
“I’d like that,” she said.

Draco paced the Slytherin common room. “Damn!” he hissed.
“Something wrong?” Pansy asked, looking up from her book.
“Yes. Snape and Granger haven’t been seen since this morning. How am I suppose to watch them if I can’t find them,” he said angrily.
“Maybe they’ll be at dinner,” she replied. Draco sneered at her and stormed off to his dorm. Pansy knew she had to do something. She put away her book and began making plans.
Severus and Hermione weren’t at dinner. Pansy knew Draco would probably try to sneak into Severus’s chambers. She wouldn’t allow that to happen. After dinner, she carefully followed him straight to the potions classroom.
“Now, how do I get into his study?” Draco questioned.
“You don’t. Pertrificus Totalus,” Pansy said.
Draco fell to the floor with a thud. A few seconds later, Hermione and Severus entered the classroom. “What’s going on?” Severus demanded.
“He was ordered to follow you. He was going to try and break into your chambers. I know he and Blaise were two of the five that attacked you in Hogsmeade,” Pansy explained.

Two hours later, Severus and Hermione were laying on his sofa. “I can’t believe that Draco is out of our hair,” Hermione whispered.
“I know. At least for now we can just relax and enjoy our time together,” Severus agreed.
The couple laid there holding each other. Both grateful for some peace and quiet. Hermione turned in his arms and pressed her lips to his. Severus returned the kiss. They quickly got lost in themselves as their passion for each other took over.
