Harry stared at the final entry, barely being able to find the courage to read it. Things weren’t as the appeared. He’d been reading Draco wrong for so long.

I keep casting a tempus charm, watching the minutes tick by slowly. Severus has forced me onto the stoop of this hovel he is calling a safe house. He’s afraid the transformation will destroy the building. He’s right, but it still feels like I have been banished from my only safe harbor.

In less than ten minutes, I will hunt down the man I love and lord knows what will happen. I don’t know my position in this pairing, but I pray typical mating behaviors will somehow allow Harry an escape.

I had the most delicious dream last night. I often dream of our coupling, everything from strong and manic, almost violent with cries for more, to sweet and tender, with whispered words of love. Gods, the feel being inside him is like heaven, like coming home after a long and tiring day. When I imagine being inside him, I feel whole and loved and complete. But last night, the dream was different.

I am sitting in the garden, back at Malfoy Manor. I am sitting on my favorite marble bench beneath the willow that protects it from the view of Father’s window. I’m so tired, so weak. I am waiting for my own death. I hear footsteps on the gravel path and dare not turn around.

I feel myself relax as a source of warmth settles beside me, close, but not touching. I turn to the side and face Harry. He is sitting beside me on the bench facing in the opposite direction. He does not look at me. I feel a familiar sadness sink into myself.

“Please don’t be sad,” he says to me, still not looking towards me.

“I’m sorry,” I whisper.

“Don’t apologize,” he says. I swallow back the urge to do just that and look down at my entwined hands. We sit in silence for so long. I recognize some emotion in him that he is desperately trying to hide.

“I love you,” I say easily. “I love your strength and courage. I love your need to help everyone. I love the way you laugh and smile. I love the way you make me feel when I get to see that smile. It makes me feel whole and worthy. I love the way your soul speaks to me. I love you.” I can feel a single tear rolling down my cheek.

And then the most amazing thing happens. “Look at me,” Harry demands gently. An unknown force turns my face towards Harry and I am assaulted by startling emerald eyes. They look at me with longing and love. And he leans towards me. I can feel his breath on my face. I can feel the warmth of his lips just as they are about to touch mine . . .

That’s when I woke up.

I can feel my blood racing. It’s almost time. I wonder if it will hurt? I wonder if Harry will ever be mine, or will he reject me as he should? I hope whatever his decision is, it will bring him happiness.

Harry forced himself to try and sleep again. Again, he found himself with Cedric.

Harry paces up and down the familiar corridor, thinking of the greatest pleasure and the greatest love. He stopped short of reaching for the knob when he heard footsteps approaching. He glanced up at the story gray eyes of his lover. “Cedric, I—“

“It’s okay, Harry,” the taller man said. “I know that I’m no longer behind there.”

Harry nodded in thanks. And this time he opens the door.

But instead of the huge bed and warm fire, the room was dark. A single ray of the purest light came from above and pooled around Draco. Draco stood there looking lost and confused. He was wearing Harry’s jeans and t-shirt again. His hair was messy and tucked behind his ears. “Harry?” he asked.

“Draco?”

Draco tried to step towards Harry, but was stopped by the edge of the light. He couldn’t leave it. Harry watched him push and fight against it. And then the light began to shrink away. Harry watched as Draco was frozen by the pain as the darkness consumed him and then he was gone and nothing but darkness remained.

Harry bolted up right. He could hear screaming from across the hallway. The comforting purr was beyond panicked now, and Draco’s human voice added to it. Harry wanted nothing more than to run across the room and wrap his arms around the other teen.

He scurried from the bed. Apparently he didn’t have the best reaction time. Sirius and Charlie were already in the room, huddled around Draco. Draco’s human voice began to change, beginning to roar. Harry watched as his pale flesh began to glitter.

“He’s turning!” Sirius shouted. “If he turns in the house it’ll destroy it!” Charlie nodded his agreement and both men grabbed Draco, pushing him towards the balcony. Harry raced to follow, but had to move around the bed, causing him to lose a few precious moments. By the time her had gotten outside on the balcony with the others, Draco was in the air. Harry stretched and reached, but couldn’t get his fingers to brush the smooth scales.

“Draco!” he screamed. He shouldn’t be out there alone. He should be safe, here with Harry. Harry couldn’t figure why he was panicking, but then he saw the flash. “He’s being attacked!” Harry screamed, bringing back the attention of Sirius and Charlie.

Another flash of light and Draco was human again, plummeting towards the ground. “No!” Harry screamed. And then Harry saw what may be his worst nightmare coming true. Floating on a broom, Lucius Malfoy snapped his unconscious son from the air and was gone in a loud crack.
