My True Loves' Eyes
Three more years had passed since the day Harry had appeared in Severus' garden, once again shattering his carefully crafted illusion.
Three years during which Severus still had his quiet life, his garden, his lab, his potions, and his books.
Three years during which he still hardly ever thought about his past. He didn't think about Death Eaters. Voldemort. Dumbledore. Hogwarts. Teaching
But, everyday he thought about emerald eyes.
When the green of the plants in his garden reminded him of them. When the tiny frogs hopped up from the small pond. When the ivy tumbled over the walls of the cottage. When the moss grew between the stones of the fence.
When he woke in the morning.
When he went to sleep at night.
Emerald.
Green.
It coloured all his days.
All his nights.
Everything in between.
But no longer was it the colour of regret, despair, misery.
Of folly, tumult, delusion.
And never again would it be the colour of alone.
And yet it would always be the colour of his life.
In the plants. In the ivy. In the moss.
In the tiny face that toddled toward him when stepped into the garden.
In the long beloved face that smiled only for him.
Yes, green is the colour of my life, Severus thought as he scooped up the tiny toddling bundle.
As he leaned down to kiss the long beloved face.
Green is the colour of my true loves' eyes.
