Chapter 9:
Mocking
(((…Fall…)))
Harry sprinkled the gold powder into the cauldron and watched while Draco stirred it thirty six times clockwise then four times counterclockwise.
“Add the root,” Draco said with a scowl.
‘Don’t scow at me like that,’ Harry thought, irritated.
‘I’ll scowl however I please,’ Draco countered and nudged Harry’s hand.
Harry grimaced at his lover and dropped the chopped roots into the pot.
‘It’s a cauldren not a pot.’
“I’ll call it whatever I damn well please,” Harry muttered.
“What is your problem?” Draco demanded, dropping the spoon so he could turn to stare at the dark haired boy.
“You! Just because….” Harry stopped speaking, aware that it was beyond stupid to speak out loud about this. ‘Just because I said I didn’t want to turn into a bloody vampire doesn’t mean you have to be in such a goddamned snit!’
“I NEVER SAID-” Draco started to yell but was cut off by a cold voice.
“Is there a problem here?” Snape asked.
Harry and Draco both looked at the potions master. Neither was doing a very good job of appearing anything less than enraged.
“No,” Harry ground out through gritted teeth. “There is no problem.”
“Fugh,” Draco grunted. “Bloody prat.”
“Just Shut up Malfoy!” Harry yelled losing his temper at last.
“Detention, Mr. Potter,” Snape said coolly.
Harry shut his eyes tightly and lost himself in a mental fog. He could feel Draco give a start at his side. Harry hadn’t done this since he had gone to live a the burrow over the summer.
‘Harry?’
Harry didn’t hear him. He turned back to the potion, ignoring everyone.
“Harry!”
Harry didn’t answer.
(((…Ignore…)))
By the time Harry arrived for his detention he had dropped the mind fog. That didn’t mean he was speaking to Draco, however. While he now heard Draco’s thoughts, and Draco could hear his, Harry did not respond when Draco called his name.
“Hello,” Harry said and brushed past Snape to get into the room.
Harry ignored the man as he explained what Harry would be doing. It didn’t matter. Snape always had him do the same thing: clean all the cauldrons without magic.
As Snape settled himself behind his desk to grade papers Harry began to work. He diligently ignored Draco’s continued calls while he worked.
But by the time an hour and a half had gone past Harry was fed up. Throwing down the cloth he had been using he shouted, “SHUT UP!”
“What?” Snape demanded, rising form his seat.
‘No,’ Draco thought stubernly.
“Not you,” Harry snapped at Snape.
“If not me then who, pray tell, are you yelling at Potter?” Snape asked with a mighty sneer.
‘Harry, talk to me!’
“No one. Haven’t you heard? I’m insane,” Harry told Snape and picked up his rag again.
Snape growled low in his throat but returned to his papers.
‘Harry!’ Draco screamed. Harry instinctivly clamped his hands over his ears though it had no effect.
‘What do you want?’ Harry mentally snarled at the vampire.
‘I want to talk to you!’
‘I’m busy. We’ll talk later.’
Draco’s thoughts were silent, though Harry could feel an odd sensation of relief and joy that wasn’t his own.
(((…Repair…)))
“Harry, I never meant to upset you when I asked if you would let me change you,” Draco said imploringly.
Harry only grunted in response.
“I only wanted to change you because I don’t want you getting hurt!” Draco yelled, tired of trying to reason with his lover.
“What is that supposed to mean?” Harry snapped.
“It means that Voldemort is still out there. If you’re a vampire you’ll have a better chance of beating him! I just wanted you to be safe.”
Harry eyed the pale blonde. He looked awful. “Have you eaten today?” he asked.
Draco started with surprise. “What? Uh…no.”
“Oh for the love of…come here,” Harry commanded.
Draco inched forward. When he finally reached Harry he was caught in a tight embrace.
“I’m sorry,” Harry whispered, “now drink before you pass out.”
“Harry, what about-”
“Do shut up,” Harry sighed. “let’s just forget about the whole thing, okay? I do want to be a vampire at some point, so I can always be with you Dray. But for right now I just want to be me. Now drink before I get angry again.”
Draco smiled brightly and sunk his fangs into Harry’s exsposed neck. The moan that escaped Harry’s lips made Draco’s cock harden with desire. They spent the rest of the night in the dusty classroom, spread out on a transfigured cot when they finally fell into sleep.
