Chapter Ten
Hi guys! Thanks for the millions of reviews, and especially all those who have asked to be notified. I hope I\'ve got everyone who asked (and who left an email address), if I missed you, I apolgise! If you wanted to be updated, but didn\'t leave an email address, please do so!
Poohbear74 - Er, what does "Lentesco" mean? Or why is the story called Lentesco? The answer to the first is in the summary. The answer to the second I can\'t say, but the title does have relevance - honest! SP
Lentesco – Chapter Ten
“Students! Your attention for a moment!” Albus Dumbledore was standing in front of his big head teacher’s chair and had his arms spread wide. At once, the Great Hall quieted, as eager faces turned towards him.
“We are very fortunate indeed to welcome Aidan Marshall amongst us for a short while. Aidan is studying in America, and, having kind parents, has been allowed to join us here at Hogwarts for the foreseeable future. After having a discussion with Aidan, we have agreed that Slytherin House should play host to our guest.”
Aidan, a slender boy of perhaps fifteen moved from where he had been standing (by the teachers’ table) and walked over to the crowd of students who were staring at him with ill-disguised surprise. The Slytherins knew their reputation; indeed, thrived upon it, and this boy had had the audacity to want to join them? Immediately some began plotting how they could torment him. Aidan turned calm brown eyes on them, scrutinising them carefully. One by one they realised he could not easily be teased.
He settled his thin frame onto a small space on a bench and took out a vial. A dark brown fluid sloshed there. He pulled out the cork and drank, wincing in disgust.
“What’s that?” a girl asked, rather rudely.
“Medicine,” he answered, his soft American drawl pleasing to the ear. “Dumbledore didn’t say it, but I’m really here as I’m dying. I’ve always wanted to visit England, and my parents agreed; they’re doing everything they can to ensure I have fun before, well, before it’s too late.” He shrugged at the futility of life and looked around the table, eying the food.
He began loading food onto his plate, ignoring the mutters that were going on around him. Those who had not heard his story were now frantically passing it along to the rest of the table.
“So,” he asked, “which teachers do I need to be wary of?”
The girl began telling him, sharing amusing anecdotes which he laughed at, his white teeth flashing brightly in the candle-lit room.
Severus Snape stared at the boy. He had never seen anything so entrancing in his life.
